CONFUCIUS INSTITUTE AT MARYLAND www.international.umd.edu/cim CIM promotes the study and research of Chinese language, culture, and philosophy, and advances the understanding of China today. CIM provides Chinese language teaching (non-credit) for professional and personal use and enrichment, and conducts an exciting variety of lectures, seminars, and discussions on aspects of Chinese society, art, education, history, ethics, and politics. • Chinese language is available at many levels from beginning to advanced, including conversational and intensive classes, and in multiple locations • CIM’s scholarly and timely programs draw a wide and vibrant audience from the university and surrounding areas, including Washington, D.C. • Summer camps for children offer a unique experience in culture and language to area youngsters • Travel and learning trips to China provide exciting opportunities • Annual language competitions stimulate spirit and creativity • Teacher-training is hosted for regional Chinese language teachers • HSK Chinese language proficiency testing is a part of CIM’s efforts • Research is conducted on curriculum, teaching methods, and teacher training for Chinese language learning in a non-native language environment STUDY ABROAD OFFICE www.international.umd.edu/studyabroad The Study Abroad Office (SAO) annually assists over 1,600 UM students pursuing international credit bearing experiences. Courses taken on study abroad programs help students fulfill general UM requirements as well as completing required courses for a specific major or minor and still graduate within four years. 2008 Academy of Academic Excellence Award for outstandy contributions to the Academic Excellence of multi-ethnic students US News and World Report lists UM as a quality study abroad “program to watch” • Students can earn resident credit on over 70 faculty-led short term study abroad courses, 38 exchanges and 4 semester programs • SAO counsels students on non-resident credit study abroad opportunities and ultimately determines credit transferability for non-UM programs More than 50 countries have hosted UM students pursuing study abroad experiences INSTITUTE FOR GLOBAL CHINESE AFFAIRS www.international.umd.edu/igca The Institute for Global Chinese Affairs (IGCA) provides long-term, non-degree training for Chinese professionals working to advance public welfare. DIRECTIONS TO THE UM CAMPUS

From Marshall Baltimore/Washington International (BWI) AirportLocated approximately 25 miles north of College Park, driving time to this airport is approximately 35 minutes. MARC Train service is available from the BWI Rail Station to College Park. The university’s Shuttle-UM buses pick up university-bound passengers on the EAST side of the metrorail station. Get off the Shuttle-UM at the “M” (or second) stop for the Of-fice of Undergraduate Admissions. Cross street and walk south toward Mitchell Building. Super Shuttle is also a convenient option. The cost of a one-way trip is $27 for the first passenger and $11 for each additional guest. Taxi service from the airport to campus will cost approximately $35.00. From Reagan National (ICA) AirportThis airport is located about 15 miles south of College Park. Travel can be slow through downtown Washington, D.C. during rush hours; ap-proximate driving time is 40 minutes. You can take the Metrorail from the airport. Take the Yellow Line (toward Mt. Vernon Square), transferring to the Green Line (toward Greenbelt), and get off at College Park/U of MD station. The university’s Shuttle-UM buses pick up university-bound pas-sengers on the EAST side of the metrorail station. Get off the Shuttle-UM at the “M” (or second) stop for the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. Cross street and walk south toward Mitchell Building. Super Shuttle is also a convenient option.
