of the press or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress

2nd AmendmentA well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be

infringed.

“Well regulated Militia”

a part of the organized armed forces of a country liable to

call only in emergency.

No Soldier shall, in time of peace be quartered in any house, without the consent of the Owner, nor in time of war, but in a manner to be prescribed

by law.

3rd Amendment

4th AmendmentThe right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.

5th AmendmentDue Process

The right that the state must follow all laws. If they do not you will go free

(mistrial).

Self-Incrimination

You have the right to not admit to a crime and say nothing that might get you

into deeper trouble.

Double JeopardyYou cannot be tried for the same crime

the court setting a date for your trial.

Witnesses At your trial you can bring witnesses to defend you

You have the right to have to a Jury of 12 of your peers to hear your case and decide whether you are innocent or

guilty.

When you are put in jail often a bail will be set based on the severity of the crime. You will be held in jail until you pay bail

and until a judge or jury finds you innocent.

Cruel and Unusual

Punishment

You cannot be tortured, you must receive food and shelter, and protection from

others in jail.

Rights retained by the people.
