Halton Halton Village Fete My internet explorer was permanently set to the local weather pages on the approach to 1 September in desperate hope of a sunny day. When so much effort had gone into preparing for the Halton Village Fete, the element that can have the biggest effect was literally out of our control. But we needn't have worried. Despite the weather forecast saying overcast all day, the rays of sunshine peeked over the top of the trees at 10 o'clock in the morning and stayed with us all day.

And what a day it was with over 2500 people enjoying the music, the stalls, the classic cars, the BBQ and refreshments and of course, the beer tent. The vintage bus transported over 1100 people up to Halton House who had a fantastic open day as well. Laurie Holloway MBE, his trio and the 2013 students from the Montgomery Holloway Trust performed again for us in the evening making a perfect end to the day. The event raised over £10,000 for this year's chosen charities, Iain Rennie, Chilterns Air Ambulance and other local charities. But an event like this doesn't happen without volunteers giving freely of their time so a very big thank you to the 60 plus who helped on the

day. The following day I turned over my little desk calendar. It has a saying for each day. It read, "There is a difference between pure service and paid employment, and it is located in the heart." Look forward to seeing you all again next year

Grace Tipson RAF Halton Engagement Day Group Captain Simon Harper welcomed many enthusiastic visitors to the Engagement Day at RAF Halton on Wednesday 18 September to celebrate the day when the first plane visited a Rothschild field as Britain prepared for a war. Since then RAF Halton has developed beyond all recognition and become an integral part of local life. This was recognised in the Freedom Parade held in Wendover on 22 March 2013. RAF Halton now trains all non-officer RAF recruits. They and their families are therefore very fond of this beautiful area as it forms a backdrop to a very important formative time in their lives. The feeling is mutual and Wendover benefits, for example, from the First Responder unit based in the camp. We’re all looking forward to the next 100 years! www.wendovernews.co.uk for photos & videos

Stop HS2 Wendover Group Will you be a criminal from May 2014? The lobbying bill makes saying anything that might influence elections subject to draconian regulations. The Electoral Commission is aghast. The anti-HS2 campaign has been a real nuisance and the hybrid bill needs a break. And the hybrid bill is looming. HS2Ltd intends to table it in the commons this year. The justification now is that HS2 is about capacity (more trains) not high speed. The “independent” KMPG report that cost HS2 Ltd £200,000 claims £15bn of nonsense benefits for HS2 (in 2037) - and was rapidly rubbished for fundamental errors. The Hybrid stages are firstly a consultation on the environmental statement, maybe only 8 weeks over this Christmas. There will be vast amounts of paper. The second reading in Spring will agree to build it. Then we can petition the parliamentary committee – our only hope of a proper bored tunnel. HS2Ltd refuses to advocate a tunnel for the whole AONB. The, final, community forum showed that HS2 has hardly changed anything since 2012. In fact, the earth isn’t now moving at all for HS2: they will dump 800,000 m3 of spoil in the AONB near us. In the meantime, the new compensation consultation is running till Dec 8 with a Memorial Hall show on 2 November (www.gov.uk/government/consultations/hs2-

property-compensation-consultation-2013). There is a “rural” property bond proposal but probably only if you live between 60 and 120m from the line. See page 5 for other dates.

The Supreme Court Judicial appeal is 15 and 16 October. The UK’s leading environmental judge found against the government last time and it might go to Europe for the decider. If the judges do not force a rethink, we need to get a strong parliamentary petition together. Please write to David Lidington to seek a longer environmental consultation and to oppose the attack on free speech. Wildlife more important than speed of the trains, say environmentalists Now the Government has admitted that the speed of the proposed HS2 (high speed rail) route between London, the Midlands and the north of England is “almost irrelevant”, it could avoid damaging impacts on wildlife.

“If ultra-high speed isn’t such an important factor, HS2 Ltd should be re-examining the route to avoid doing so much environmental damage,” says Matt Jackson, head of conservation strategy at the Berks, Bucks & Oxon Wildlife Trust.

“The proposed speed of HS2 is directly responsible for some of its most environmental impacts on ancient woodlands and important habitats for rare wildlife. Not only does it take

HS2 more energy to reach high speeds, but the route itself, which can only make gentle turns and climbs, can’t avoid wildlife sites along the route”, he said.

“If the Government says the project is no longer about speed, then the route should be looked at again to see where slower speeds would allow route adjustments. This would mean the route could avoid nature reserves such as Calvert Jubilee, and other wildlife assets including the ancient woodlands of Bernwood Forest, home to the rare Bechstein’s bats”.

Calvert Jubilee, one of the Wildlife Trust’s nature reserves, is directly affected by the HS2 proposals. Suggestions that the route could be moved to reduce the impact on the reserve were rejected by HS2 Ltd earlier this year because of the speed of the trains.

Bechstein’s bats are protected from disturbance under UK and European Law, and were only discovered in Bernwood Forest, which straddles the HS2 route, just before the route was selected.

Matt Jackson said: “When the HS2 preferred route was first published we were astounded there was no intention to investigate the ecological impacts of route alternatives before the line was fixed. Now that the Government has acknowledged that speed is not the deciding factor for HS2, HS2 Ltd should look again at the route through the Bernwood Forest area, and could offer alternatives that would protect the Bechstein’s bats.”

HS2 Ltd has carried out surveys to examine the ecological effects of the proposals, but over a very short timescale. This raises the very real worry that there will be significant information that hasn’t been taken account of in the scheme when it is put before Parliament later this year.

Rennie Grove Hospice Shop in Wendover celebrates first anniversary Congratulations to the Iain Rennie Hospice Shop in Wendover High Street which celebrated its first anniversary on Saturday 7 September. This has been a busy year during which the shop had a new manager and the Charity had a merger and name change. Some things stay constant and Emily Conway has been a Saturday only Volunteer since the opening of the shop a year ago. She is a student at Aylesbury High School now in her second year of 'A' levels. Chloe Baker has been serving in the shop as a volunteer during the Summer break, working sometimes several days a week. Chloe is returning to Nottingham University to continue her Degree in Ancient History. Changes at St Anne’s A Memorial Service for Canon Timothy Russ, Priest of St Anne’s Roman Catholic Church, was held in the church on 6 September. Timothy

died on 29 June after a short illness and his funeral was held in Immacualte Heart of Mary Church on 7 July. Members of all Wendover Churches took part in his Memorial Service on 6 September in St Anne’s along with former colleagues who had worked with him during the 17 years since he came to serve the Roman Catholic Parish of Great Missenden and Wendover. The congregation heard about his early life, an only child brought up by his mother after his father died in the Second World War, about his training and work as a Catholic priest and as a partner in Churches Together in Wendover. While it was acknowledged that Timothy’s background and disposition gave him a rarified outlook, there were many affectionate memories and tribute was paid to his sense of duty, his diligence, his willingness to cooperate with other denominations and his faith. St Anne's Roman Catholic Church is pleased to announce the appointment of their new Priest, Father Wayne Coughlin. He comes to St Anne's Church from the Church of Our Lady of Charity and St Augustine in Daventry. Father Wayne will be living in Damien House, the Presbytery associated with Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Great Missenden as he looks after both churches in this Parish. He is very much looking forward to being part of the community at Wendover and Great Missenden from early October and assures us all of his prayers.

Changes To Our Usual Opening Hours We will close at 13.00 on Wednesday 9 October for staff training.

Influenza Vaccination We are offering seasonal flu vaccine on these dates to those eligible according to the first letter of their surname (see table). All clinics run from 8.30am - 12noon. You do not need an appointment, simply arrive on the day. The car park is always very busy so please walk to the surgery if you are able to do so. If you cannot attend on the allocated day please choose an alternative Saturday or contact Reception. Additional flu clinics may be held; please check our website or posters in reception.

Eligible patients include all those aged 65 or over on 31 March 2014; all pregnant women; patients with long term conditions

such as COPD, asthma (if using inhaled steroids), heart disease and diabetes; and the main carer for an elderly or disabled person whose welfare may be at risk if you fall ill. If you are unsure if you are eligible please see our posters in reception or check our website www.westongrove.com .

All children aged 2 and 3 years will be offered a flu vaccine that is delivered into the nose. We will contact parents directly with details. Those aged 4-18 years with long term conditions should attend the Saturday flu clinics.

We will be sending reminders by text message so please ensure that we have your mobile phone number if you would like to make use of this service.

Shingles vaccine A new vaccine is available in England to protect against the development of shingles (Herpes Zoster). The vaccine is being targeted at older people, who are at

high risk of shingles and stand to benefit most from vaccination. Due to limited stocks, only people aged 70 to 79 can be offered the vaccine this year. We will contact those who are eligible directly, again please check that we have your mobile number if you would like a text reminder.

Hearing Tests We no longer offer hearing tests (audiometry) at the Heath Centre. If you have a hearing problem please make an appointment with your doctor who can advise and refer you appropriately. Some local high street hearing aid suppliers provide free hearing tests.

Travel vaccines There is a national shortage of Yellow Fever and Typhoid vaccine and we have only very limited supplies. We therefore regret that we may not be able to meet demand for these vaccines. The situation is expected to ease towards the end of the year.

JourneyBook “Write what should not be forgotten” Isabel Allende

With the advent of social and electronic media, we tend to write and photograph more than ever before. However, this is all about the “now”. Few of us preserve our life experiences in a way that will be clear in even a year’s time, let alone a hundred. It’s never too early to start, but managing a biography can be daunting.

JourneyBook is the brainchild of Wendover local entrepreneur, Paul Greasby. JourneyBook helps people capture and preserve life experiences through compelling stories and images. With a personal biography and photographic team, we help unravel your personal journey and deliver beautiful colour hardback books and ebooks, for all to enjoy.

We provide a multi-tier service. From our Managed Service where we manage a writing project end-to-end, to our expanding free resources supporting people managing their own writing project. Our key services are also available on a pay-as-you-go basis. One example is our photographic service which involves scanning and repairing even the most worn and dated photographs, and professionally reprinting them.

We also create JourneyBooks for companies.

All female couple!!! A receptionist from local opticians Ivan Cammack has been selected to join the only all-female partnership entered in the “Strictly Florence” ballroom dance competition being held on Sunday 6 October at the Waterside Theatre in Aylesbury, to raise money for the Florence Nightingale Hospice in their 25th Anniversary year. Receptionist Sarah Sagar was originally put on the reserve list as there were enough men to have 12 couples. However Sarah was delighted when she was called to say one of the men had dropped out and she was in! Sarah who has no dance experience commented: “The hospice charity is such an important local charity and I am hoping to raise lots of money to support this cause, my target being £1000. My dance partner Vashti and I think we may well be the novelty act of the evening, but don’t be fooled! Vashti and I have been training hard for our tango and cha cha cha and we hope to dazzle! Training is pretty tough as I am not particularly fit, but I really wanted to enter the competition.” This fantastic event will see BBC Strictly Come Dancing judge Craig Revel-Horwood making a special VIP appearance on the night, alongside celebrity chef, writer & presenter Lotte Duncan. Anyone wishing to sponsor Sarah or make a donation can do so by calling in at Ivan Cammack Opticians in Wendover, or using the website link:

South Central Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust has long subscribed to the fact that the quicker we can have a suitably trained person, with the appropriate equipment, to a member of the public during a life threatening emergency, the better the chance of survival and making a good recovery. A Few years ago we launched a charity division called “Community Responders”, this initiative depends on members of the community volunteering within their local area to respond to emergencies giving lifesaving treatment prior to the ambulance arriving. Volunteers are given 2 full days of training at one of our training centres, explaining how to recognize and treat many life threatening medical emergencies, ranging from cardiac arrest to strokes in the elderly down to infants, to name but a few of the situations the volunteers may face. Once they have successfully completed the course they are supplied with an Automated

External Defibrillator, breathing equipment and a mobile phone. The volunteer responders can then respond, to an emergency in their local community and tend to the needs of the most vulnerable, whilst an ambulance is on route. Due to the close proximity of the volunteer responder to the emergency they are very often first on scene and their actions can directly affect the outcome of the patient, this will have an impact on the lives of the their family and

friends within your community. We are currently l o o k i n g f o r volunteers to be a part of this lifesaving scheme to help within your community. Do you have a few hours a week to spare? No prior medical

knowledge required as full training is given. If you would like to find out more then visit our website www.southcentralambulance.nhs.uk Or get in touch by email [email protected] or [email protected]

'How To Boost Your Metabolism' This summary of ways to boost your metabolism, get healthier, lose weight, control fat and feel great is a must read. The Autumn and Winter is a great time for this. The chill makes your body work harder. ORGANIC is better, and not always affordable but fat cells hold pesticides, for least contaminated foods check out: food news.org/fulllist. BREAKFAST IS A HIT. Stoke your metabolism and stop a sluggish system. Omelettes with mixed chopped vegetables, or add spinach to eggs, along with a serving of 1/2 a cup of cooked oats and berries. Seriously, this is a meal. GREEN TEA a few times a day stimulates fat burning, and over a year can shed a stubborn 4-5lbs. Easy! COLD WATER GUZZLERS of 8-12 glasses a day have faster metabolisms than 4 glass drinkers. Simple, and free. PROTEIN should feature at every meal, around 30grams, eg 1 cup of low-fat cottage cheese, 4oz chicken breast. You feed your muscle which burns more fat.

CALCIUM Sorry, supplements don't have the same effect. Milk or low fat yoghurt are a great afternoon snack. IRON Ladies, you need this during certain times and leafy green vegetables, fortified cereals, beans or broccoli help. SLEEP, FITNESS & HEAT - What a concoction! Several hours sleep is needed, it controls hormones that effect hunger spikes and the metabolism. Fitness in INTERVAL formats fires the metabolism showing greater thigh and waist fat reduction. Strength training with controlled Bodyweight exercises or using suspensions systems or weights like KETTLEBELLS challenges the muscles, but it needs to be tough. CHILLI, not the weather, the red and green spice can spike metabolism by a massive 23%. Written by Cat Booker. Founder and Owner of Cat Booker Fitness. A Master Trainer, Advanced Personal Training Coach & Fitness Presenter. Established training customers in the local area for eighteen years.

Wendover Swimming Association The weather has been good again in August and the additional sessions during the day have proved to be very popular. As we move in to the autumn term, we have re-introduced some swimming schools and changed the daytime sessions to accommodate being back at school. Please let us know what you think.

WSA is now in the process of setting up as an Incorporated Charity and we hope to have more news on this next month. We always need volunteers to be lifeguards, first aiders, administrators and water testers, and now we are also keen to hear from anyone who is

interested in serving as a Trustee of the new organisation. You can contact us at [email protected] times and swimming schools are at www.wendoverswimmingassociation.co.uk . Enjoy your swimming! Mid Bucks Beekeepers Association Following a busy and generally productive season we turn our minds to preparing exhibits for annual Honey Shows. The Bucks County Honey Show and AGM will be held on 12 October in High Wycombe, the Mid Bucks AGM and Honey Show will be held on 16 October. Our attendance at the Bucks County show in August was very successful, rolling over 240 candles with children and much interest in our 2014 Beginners Course being expressed. For details of our course and other activities go to www.mbbka.org.uk. WAT Grand Draw Report, 8 September The draw was made at 15:00 in St Mary the Virgin, Drayton Beauchamp, by the Mayor of Tring, during a Restoration Day event where the public were invited to visit the restoration work site to view progress and hear a short talk given by the Restoration Director, Mr Roger Leishman. Help Required for Halton Brownies In 2014 the Brownies will be celebrating their centenary and an exciting year lies ahead of us. The Brownies give girls aged between seven and ten the opportunity to try outdoor activities, undertake challenges, do crafts, work towards badges and be part of a team. Halton Brownies, which meet on Wednesdays in the early evening, need an adult volunteer to help with running the meetings and planning events. No previous experience is required. If you are looking for a rewarding and fun way to give back to your community, please phone Mary on 01296 624464 for a chat or email: [email protected] Wendover Men’s Football To mark the end of the summer the club held a very successful, friendly and fun six aside tournament enjoyed by all. The club raised some funds and enjoyed some good afternoon and excellent evening entertainment. Thank you to everyone who came for their support. After a successful pre-season and a couple of very positive results, the first XI has opened with some attractive pressing football, despite a narrow loss and a draw in the first two games. The second team has commenced under new management, and is aiming to forge a solid team for the campaign after demonstrating some

potential in the pre-season and opening fixtures. To mark the new season we presented our new club kit alongside its proud sponsor Sweeney’s Budgens. The club held its annual squad photo on the morning of Saturday 21st September outside the Wendover store. The club would like to thank Budgens and Dary Sweeney for sponsoring the club and the revenue driven as a result. We also thank the Lionel-Abel Smith Trust for their contribution and the club hopes to show off some new training equipment in the coming weeks. The nights are inevitably becoming darker earlier, so the club will be moving its training to a synthetic, floodlit pitch at Meadowcroft in Aylesbury and welcomes anybody keen, to get down and join in. We also welcome anyone who is free to come by and support either of the teams on a Saturday afternoon. Wendover Cricket Club Wendover Cricket Club hosted a Charity game on Sunday 25 August at Witchell to help raise a grand total of £1,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support. In addition, the club bar made £250, part of which was donated to the MacMillan total and the remainder will go towards helping its youth cricket programme. A huge thank you goes to the many local businesses whose generosity contributed fantastic raffle prizes and it was great to see the local community club together for such an important charity. The Jollyboys claimed the champion's trophy.

The senior teams ended their league season with the 1st XI being Runners-up in Division 1, despite only winning one of their last 3 games. The 2nd XI had a strong end to the season by winning the last 2 games played and so finished 8th in Division 2. The President’s Day match saw the President’s team score 316 for 6, but the game was washed out after the Chairman’s team had reached 87 for 2 in reply.

The Club’s annual 50/50 Auction is being held on Saturday 16 November at the Wendover Memorial Hall. Leaflets will be delivered in the Wendover area as usual, probably in late October. Wendover Tennis and Squash Club The Aylesbury District Tennis League gets underway this month. After a successful 12 months with our Ladies 1, Mens 1 and Mixed 1 teams all being promoted we wish our teams well for the coming season. Our Junior Squash squad is doing well with several players having the opportunity to play for the County. Senior Squash and Racketball club leagues are now in full swing with several new members increasing the pool of players.

Thanks for help with— Churchyard Care I want to thank our team of six regulars who turn out, rain or shine, every week of the year. Gary Thorne with Hampden Lodge members and in particular Nick Taylor, gardener extraordinaire, who has helped us open up new sight lines in the older sections. It has been a challenging year with a remarkably wet spring, persistent badger damage, and fly-tipping. However, our gang persevered and we are nearly on top of it again. Thanks again, you lovely people.

A Buckinghamshire New University graduate from Wendover, Buckinghamshire, has won an award after impressing staff during nursing placements at Charing Cross Hospital, in London. Mina Long-John, 28, of Wendover Dean, who now works as a Staff Nurse at Hammersmith Hosp i ta l , graduated with a BSc (Hons) Nursing degree from Bucks New University on Friday 13 September. The graduate was presented with The Hannah Evans Award for Excellence by the League of Charing Cross Hospital Nurses for achieving a high standard in clinical knowledge and practice during work placements in the hospital's intensive care and oncology wards. Mina, who is originally from South-East London, said: "I am shocked and amazed to win this award and am so pleased that I made such a good impression during my placements. "I carried out placements at Charing Cross Hospital during the three years of my nursing training but I must admit I didn't realise enough people there knew my name, let alone know what I was doing, to give me an award!"

Mina had worked as a Healthcare Assistant at BMI The Chiltern Hospital in Great Missenden, Buckinghamshire, for two years before studying for her degree.

She said: "The degree has opened up so many doors for me and equipped me with a lot of transferable skills so I can now work in a range of nursing areas. "I most enjoyed working in the

intensive care unit during my placement in year three of my training, close interaction with patients and the opportunity to test my skills in a tough, busy environment. "After finishing my degree I worked in a private ward at Charing Cross Hospital for six months but was keen to work in intensive care and am enjoying my new role in General Intensive Care at Hammersmith Hospital." Mina received her award from Kay Tewarie of the League of Charing Cross Hospital Nurses. Kay said: “The League of Charing Cross Hospital Nurses is privileged to be able to support the Award for clinical excellence through the generous bequest of Dr Gordon Evans, whose wife Hannah trained as a nurse at Charing Cross Hospital from 1942-1946.”

Matt has lived in Wendover for most of his life - he was born in Aylesbury, lived in Tring for his early years and then moved to Wendover where he attended the Junior School and then Aylesbury Grammar School. He moved to Devon with his family in 1992 where he completed his A-Levels at Torquay Boys Grammar School, before moving back to Wendover, to be with his childhood sweetheart Amanda. Matt and Amanda were married in 1997 and in 1999 their first child Sam was born, and was followed Rebecca, Charlie and Joseph. Matt also began his training as an accountant, and qualified in 2001 as a Chartered Certified Accountant. During this time he worked at his father-in-law's accountancy practice, before moving to Harris & Co in Berkhamsted and later working as a Financial Controller for a Sunday Times Top 100 privately owned company. In 2006, Matt took the big step of opening his own Chartered Certified Accountancy practice. Today, his business, Numbers, has grown significantly and now supports many local businesses, employs seven local people and is based in the heart of Wendover at the top of the High Street. Aside from devoting his time to his family,

friends and business, Matt is very involved in many activities within the Wendover community – he’s an active member of St Mary’s Church, where he was Church Warden for several years and is now in his second spell as leader of its youth group. He is also Treasurer of Wendover Cricket Club and a football coach for the Under 15 Colts at Wendover Junior Football Club to name but a few. He has recently been appointed as the Treasurer for the Lionel Abel-Smith Trust – an organisation that was created to provide Wendover residents and societies with financial assistance for worthwhile projects. Matt has made many friends at St Mary's and it was here he met Paul Shyvers, who sadly lost his battle against cancer at the end of last year. When Paul was first diagnosed with this, it reminded Matt that life was too short not to make the most of it. At this time Matt invested in a sea kayak as something to enjoy whilst spending time together with family and friends on their holidays. Matt really wanted to take Paul out on the kayak, but never got that opportunity. So in his memory, Matt and a

group of friends decided to kayak around the Isle of Wight! In the last weekend of August Matt, Ben Hutchings, Claire Morton & Ruth Morley successfully kayaked around the island and to date have raised an amazing £8,000 towards St

Francis Hospice in Berkhamsted and Cancer Research. They were supported by friends who had travelled to the Isle of Wight and also from afar via Facebook. They even managed a live link up from their support yacht during the Sunday morning church service! The Isle of Wight adventure was a huge achievement as the paddlers managed to make the 100km around the island. They endured three gruelling days of early starts, battled 6ft waves but enjoyed amazing scenery and best of all the companionship of wonderful friends. They were supported on the Isle of Wight by 40 people from their community of family and friends from Wendover who made the trip down. They were able to enjoy the adventure together away from the normal busyness of life. www.justgiving.com/IOWKayakAdventure

Clock Tower You may know that your Parish Council had applied to the Heritage Lottery Fund for a grant to help us carry out necessary repairs to the Wendover Clock Tower. The application has not been successful, which means that the Parish Council has had to review the scope of the project and begin to identify new sources of potential funding. The decision has been made to split the project into two distinct phases. The essential (phase 1) and the desirable (phase 2). Phase 1 is the structural works to the timber bell tower. Phase 2 is improvements to the energy efficiency of the building and the information technology element that would modernise information delivery. The Council has agreed to seek funding from other grant giving sources until the end of January 2014 and then to proceed with the essential Phase 1, starting in the Spring 2014, (grants have to be sourced before building starts). Works will be paid for from any grants or donations that we have received and any shortfall will be met by the Parish Council. The Council’s own fund raising efforts will continue. We would like to thank the village organisations and businesses that have helped us already and also the individuals who have made donations. Thank you all. When it comes to fund raising, we could do with some help. If you have ideas that

would enliven our efforts, perhaps you have experience of funding other projects and could bring some energy to our appeal, or maybe you’d just like to make a donation. If so please get in touch with the Clerk. The Clock Tower is for all of Wendover. Only together can we guarantee its future.

Goodbye and Good Luck Sadly, Judith Stancombe, who has worked with us in the CIO office at the Clock Tower for 2½ years, has decided to move on and will be leaving us next month. We wish her every success in her new position and for the future.

Electoral Boundaries The Boundary Commission has announced, following a public consultation, that it plans to recommend AVDC should have 59 Councillors in the future, the same as currently and are now asking local people and organisations to help them draw up new wards. The C o m m i s s i o n s t a t e s t h a t i t s recommendations will take into account local community interests and identities as well as ensuring electoral equality, with each Councillor representing roughly the same number of voters.

However, it is understood that one of the proposed warding changes affects Wendover, splitting off Halton and attaching it to Aston Clinton, then transferring part of Stoke Mandeville, south of Station Road, to the Wendover ward. The Parish Council has strongly objected to this proposal, the village of Halton is part of our community, its population relies upon the infrastructure of Wendover for health care, schooling, worship, banking and shopping. Halton also has good road, cycling and pedestrian links with Wendover. The same cannot be said for village links with Aston Clinton, whereas Stoke Mandeville more naturally gravitates towards Aylesbury than Wendover. To split Wendover from its long association with adjoining Halton in the interests of numerically balancing electors amongst our three District Councillors would be a very poor decision. If you feel the same please respond to the Commissions invitation to consult. Local people have until 1 October 2013 to submit their views. Further information on the review and interactive maps of the existing wards can be found at c o n s u l t a t i o n . l g b c e . o r g . u k a n d www.lgbce.org.uk Submissions are published on the Commissions website so that local people can see the various proposals. Residents will then have a further chance to have their say after draft recommendations are released in January 2014.
