Public Meeting Saturday 22 June 10.30am, Wendover Memorial Hall, Doors open at 10am for this 1½ hour public meeting. Its purpose is to update the people of Wendover on the HS2 status to date; to provide some information for the environmental consultation and roadshow and lay out next steps. There will be an open Question and Answer session at the end of the meeting. The provisional agenda is as follows: Welcome and introductionsProperty Compensation Status JR AppealEnvironmental consultationBored TunnelHybrid BillQuestions and Answers HS2 Ltd is currently working on the Environmental Impact Assessment of HS2 and will be publishing an Interim Environmental Statement shortly. This document purports to show what the impact on Wendover and surrounding area will be in a number of environmental areas, such as hydrology, noise and so on. In addition to detailing the environmental impacts it should also discuss the alternatives considered (such as a tunnel) and what mitigation it is being proposed to put in place. Following publication of these documents by HS2 Ltd they will be having a public consultation currently planned for 29 June, 2013 at the Memorial Hall.

There is a large number of documents (10 books) as well as maps and plans. It is only ‘interim’ as a full environmental and ecological impact analysis takes a long time and covers all seasons of the year. It is important that you have the opportunity to see what the potential impacts on Wendover could be. This will set out in sufficient detail what they are proposing to put into the Hybrid Bill. A copy will be in Wendover Library for your review. Have a look at it and come to the public meeting on Saturday 22 June.

Health Dr Catherine Collier leaving You may have heard that I will be leaving my post as GP at Wendover Health Centre on 30 June 2013. I will be taking up a GP partnership elsewhere in Bucks. This has been a very difficult decision for me as I have hugely enjoyed my time working at Wendover Health Centre during the last 11 years. My time at Wendover has been a very special phase in my career as a GP.

From my West Wales comprehensive school at 18 years of age I chose St Bartholomew’s Hospital Medical College, London, to train in Medicine, partly because of its proximity to the multicultural and deprived East End of London. After a brief spell in Worcester, I returned to London working in many different hospitals in the inner city. I started work as a GP in Islington and Hackney and then Tower Hamlets for 8 years. So you can imagine the contrast when I first started work at Wendover Health Centre in 2002. I gradually adjusted and with the benefit of a well organised surgery and talented team of colleagues I have learnt a huge amount.

I feel privileged to have cared for a very special list of patients at Wendover and thank all those patients who have trusted in my care as their GP. I am confident that I will leave my patients in very good hands with excellent GPs joining the Wendover team.

I now move on to new challenges and another phase of life and I hope to take forward the positive experience and learning from Wendover colleagues and patients. Thank you to everyone who has passed on their good wishes to me.

Cath Collier

A Goodbye to Dagny Lund Dagny, a well-known personality in Wendover has just retired from working at the Ch i l t e rns MS Centre.

With her healing h a n d s a n d c om p as s io n a t e spirit for twenty five years Dagny has dedicated herself to helping and supporting countless patients to live fuller and more active lives. Dagny has played a big role over the years in building up this charity and has seen the Chilterns MS Centre grow from a humble portacabin to a brand new state of the art purpose built centre which serves no less than 270 patients per week.

Dagny has decided to retire and enjoy a well-earned rest. Well, rest is the wrong word as

News from Wendover Health Centre 01296 623452 Changes to Usual Opening Hours On Wednesday 19th June we will be closed from 13:00 for staff training, tbc.

Hay Fever Medicines June and July are the peak months for hay fever. Typical symptoms include sneezing, an itchy, runny or blocked nose, and itchy or watery eyes. All of the commonly used hay fever remedies are available without a prescription. Antihistamines are generally very e f f e c t i v e – w e r e c o m m e n d LORATADINE or CERTIRIZINE which rarely cause drowsiness. A steroid n a s a l s p r a y s u c h a s BECLOMETASONE or FLUTICASONE (Flixonase) eases a blocked or runny nose. This should be started before the hay fever season and continued throughout. It is important to use nasal sprays correctly – follow the instructions that come in the box. SODIUM CROMOGLICATE eye drops may relieve itchy, watery eyes. Prices of non-branded products are reasonable,

for example 30 X loratadine 10mg tablets cost less than £2 at leading supermarkets and on-line pharmacies. W e do not r ou t ine ly prov ide prescriptions for hay fever medicines, but if over the counter preparations do not give adequate relief please discuss with a nurse or GP. If you are wheezy or are coughing a lot when you get hay fever, please make an appointment.

Reducing Waste of Medicines Any unused medicines that are returned cannot be used for another patient and have to be destroyed, even if within expiry date. This results in extra costs to the NHS, and ultimately means that less money is available for spending on other health care. The costs of a month’s supply of some commonly used medicines are: Seretide 250 Accuhaler one inhaler - £35.00 (asthma) Adizem-XL (diltiazem) 180mg, 28 capsules - £10.33 (heart conditions) Spiriva (tiotropium) 30 refill capsules - £33.50 (chronic lung disease)

In order to prevent wastage please do not request any more medicine than you need. If you are on a pharmacy repeat dispensing scheme such as Lloyds ExRx please tell the pharmacy if you do not need any particular items.

Dr Catherine Collier We are very sorry that Dr Collier will be leaving us at the end of June after 11 years at Wendover Health Centre, and we wish her well in the future at her new practice. A book is being placed in Reception for patients and staff to record their memories and messages of good will for Dr Collier which we will present to her when she leaves. If you wish to write in this book please see the notices in Reception or ask at the desk. We will announce plans for Dr Collier’s replacement in the July issue of the Wendover News.

Bonjour To Their French Friends This is the first French Exchange to take place in four years. A minimum number of students is needed to make the French Exchange viable. John Colet Languages department were so keen for their students to take part in the experience, that is was arranged to pair with The Misbourne School in order to reach the required number. Last November these students spent a week in Liffré, Wendover’s twin town. On each exchange, students spent six nights away, and were totally immersed in each other’s culture. This proved to be an invaluable and unforgettable learning experience, and one the students thoroughly enjoyed. Liv Finch Fox, a year 10 John Colet student, welcomed Aëlle into her home and they both had a great time. Liv said: “Many people are of the opinion that exchange visits are a thing of the past, I’m so pleased our school continues to run these popular and rewarding trips. Spending time with a pupil, and their family, is a way of allowing you to improve your language skills and experience another culture. As a result of my exchange I have improved my French and made a friend for life.” Aëlle was equally pleased with her experience, saying: “I love my family exchange and England. It’s a dream.”

Isabelle Simpson, Head of Modern Foreign Languages, commented: “The exchange partnerships got on very well. It was great to see our students making so much progress in French and making such strong links with their partners. We look forward to running the trip again next year and giving other students the chance to be part of such a memorable experience.”

John

Welcome Back to Former Pupil John Colet staff and students were delighted to welcome a special guest for their Year 13 celebration morning. Detective Superintendent and Head of Intelligence for Thames Valley Police, Richard List returned to his old school. The former Commander for Aylesbury Vale, spoke to current students about his experiences whilst at the school, and his subsequent police career. Detective Superintendent List was astounded by the changes that have taken place. He explained that some of the key skills to policing are: good relationships, good communication and great team work, skills he learnt whilst at the school, and skills he can see are still being taught. He encouraged all the students to strive to be the best they can in whatever their chosen career path. After addressing the students, Detective Superintendent List was given a tour of the school. He said: “It was a true pleasure to visit the John Colet School again and speak to students. The building is much changed but I could still recognise, and certainly remember, a great deal. It is clear the John Colet School is greatly improved from when I attended between 1978 and 1984. It is more modern, professional and offers a far more diverse range of subjects.

Head Teacher Christine McLintock said: “It was a delight to welcome Richard List back to the school. His speech was motivational and inspiring. We are appealing to other former students to get in contact so we can hear where their lives have taken them. It may be that former pupils have skills or advice they can pass on to the current students, by talking to them or even acting as a mentor. We have set up an email address [email protected] so please do get in touch.”

Whitewaters Rings the Changes As many of you will have seen there have been changes afoot at Whitewaters! The inside space has been brightened up, opened out and the floor levelled allowing for more comfortable seating. This has meant the hard decision had to be taken of no longer stocking the range of cheese and meats and certain other deli produce. “We simply do not have the space to do it all and we were constantly hearing we needed more seats” says the owner, Lib Charlesworth. “Also, the market cheese stall outside the shop every Thursday was impacting our sales. Not having our overheads, their cheese can be significantly cheaper and we understand that is attractive to many shoppers. However, we will still be stocking Kings Farm ham and eggs, Seggiano, Cherry Tree, Olives et al dressings and the Lancashire Bombs and using the same cheeses for our platters and sandwiches. This continued relationship with our brilliant cheese supplier means we will still be able to take Christmas orders. Similarly, the drunken cakes will return then too.” This move allows Whitewaters to focus on their Monmouth coffee, increase the range of lunch options and continue to make those delicious Bakeaway pizzas so why not pop along and take a look?!

Helping Wendover’s young chefs When Wendover Church of England Junior School needed help to purchase equipment for the school’s cookery classes, local mum Jo Richardson, whose daughter is a pupil, asked Harpenden Building Society if they could step in. Jo works at their Wendover branch and the building society, which is celebrating its sixtieth anniversary this year, was happy to fund the items.

On Friday 10 May, Gill Pearce from the Society (pictured) visited the school to see how the children were getting on with the mixing bowls, wooden spoons and rolling pins. The school’s Bursar, Catriona Durrant, commented ‘We are delighted that Harpenden Building Society has contributed in this way, as it assists us in teaching a skill which will benefit these children throughout their lives’.

At a reception prior to the Annual Meeting of the Trust, the Chairman Marion Clayton, announced the proposed retirement of Judith Hacking as Treasurer. In 1977 when Lionel Abel-Smith, then Lord of the Manor of Wendover, established Wendover Community Trust (as it was then called), Judith was employed by Ernest Maurice. He was the first Treasurer of the Trust and Judith kept the Trust’s books for him. When Ernest retired in 1983, Judith took over from him and has been Treasurer for 30 years, always taking great interest and pride in her work. In recognition of her long years of service, the Trustees unanimously agreed to make her an Honorary Trustee. Matt Ryan, FCCA, was appointed as Judith’s replacement.

Since last year’s AGM, the Trust awarded a total of £15,669 in grants to individuals who live in Wendover. At their meeting the Trustees considered a further 31 applications and a total of £38,810 was paid in grants as a result. These were distributed as follows:-

Education: £8,060.50 Elderly: £2,300 with one deferred while awaiting further information Individuals: £400 with one deferred while awaiting further information Medical Areas: £ 2,000 with one deferred while awaiting further information Organisations: £26,050 which included £3,000 to the Wendover Community Library, £6,000 to Wendover Youth Centre (with a further £6,000 next year) and £5,000 towards the continued fight against HS2.

The majority of grants are awarded at the Annual Meeting, applications are considered and grants are awarded throughout the year. Anyone who lives in the parish of Wendover who wishes to know more about the Trust, or to apply for a grant may consult www.wendovertrust.org, and contact The Clerk at 14A Vicarage Close, Wendover, HP22 6DS, or email [email protected], giving a contact telephone number and address. Wendover Swimming Association As reported last month, the survey conducted by WSA during April showed that the great majority of people (over 90%) are now aware of the Wendover Pool and more than 80% would be disappointed if it has to close. A small group of WSA committee members and volunteers is working hard investigating the feasibility of re-opening the Pool. Please do complete our on line survey to help WSA understand what you would want from the Pool if it could be re-opened. You can find the survey at https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/W5HMDJ5 or www.wendoverswimmingassocation.co.uk where there is a link you can follow. If the Pool re-opens WSA will need more volunteers including life guards, first aiders, pool managers and administrators. Without them the Pool can not be kept open. If you can spare any time or expertise to help WSA in its work please contact membership @wendoverswimmingassociation.co.uk.

Mid Bucks Beekeepers Association The interim results from our colony loss survey indicate that 35% of members’ colonies did not make it through the winter. This bucks the trend of reduced losses over the last 2 years. The main reasons seem to have been the poor summer last year and the prolonged cold spell in March. The continued cold prevailing winds in May delayed the expansion of many colonies, reducing the prospect of a Spring harvest. Following on from our Queen Rearing meeting in May, this month’s meeting will be themed on New Queen Introduction to a Colony. The meeting

Wendover Tennis and Squash Club Club Senior and Junior tennis tournaments are well underway with the Finals Day set for Saturday 13 July. Congratulations to our Ladies and Mens 1st teams for winning their respective Divisions in the Winter Aylesbury District Tennis League and to the Mixed Doubles 1st team for coming second in their Division. Welcome to the new coach, Chris Roberts, who has joined Dan’s team and is coaching the Juniors on Tuesday evenings.

Wendover Cricket Club The 1st XI has achieved 2 Mid Bucks League wins out of 2 played. The 2

nd XI had

a walkover in their fist game and the second was abandoned, but not before Andy Glazebrook and Jim Henderson had each scored 30’s. In other games, Rickmansworth had a narrow 12 run win after making 145 with Jonathan Seabrook 4 for 22 and Bob Glue 2 for 28, plus 2 stumpings and a catch by Matthew Smalley-Harris being the main wicket takers. Against Little Marlow, their 163 for 6 was overtaken with 4 wickets in hand thanks to George Robinson’s 51 and Jon Green’s 51*. There was a 4 wicket defeat at Chartridge despite James Harrington’s 40 and Jonathan Seabrook’s 4 for 25.

The under 13 team won the 1st round Bucks Cup game v Ley Hill, when Jacob Davis took 2-14 and Billy Jackson 2-15 whilst Jake Buchorski held 2 excellent catches. Wendover knocked off the 86 runs needed in only 10 overs with Billy Jackson (31 retired) and Leo Blackman (24*) the main scorers. Then in the next league game, beat Chalfont St Peter by 6 wickets with Buchorski (3 for 16) and Alastair Claringbold (2-8) being the best bowlers and then Ben Pope (31 ret’d) and Buchorski (21) set up a 6-wicket victory.

The U15’s beat Ivinghoe & Pitstone by 13 runs, with Brandon Ridgley (21), Dan Norton (40) and Josh Edworthy 23* starring in the total of 143 for 7.

An inexperienced U11 side suffered a narrow 2 wicket defeat at Ballinger in their 1st Round Cup match. Wendover reached a highly creditable 109 for 6, with Harrison Cornick 28 and the best bowlers were Ben Mayer (2 for 7), Hector Charlesworth (2 for 18) and Harrison Cornick (4 overs 1 for 11).

The Club is investing in a new artificial pitch at Witchell and is most grateful to the Lionel Abel-Smith Trust and the Lord’s Taverners who are funding approximately a third of the cost each; it is hoped the work will be complete by the end of May.

County Elections As you will know I was unsuccessful in the recent County elections. May I take this opportunity to say thank you to those who voted for me and helped in my campaign. The county is still Conservative controlled and I have no doubt that Martin Tett and his team will work tirelessly for the residents of Buckinghamshire. I will also work hard in the fight against HS2 and at District level to ensure that all residents in Wendover and Halton are fully represented.

Councillor Steve Bowles

County Council Elections have come and gone. The UKIP candidate Chris Adams won and I came second. Thanks to all those who supported me. I hope I can take that support as a personal endorsement for standing as an Independent and the reasons for it. I feel electors wished to send a national message to all the major parties that lies, obfuscations about HS2 and confused political thinking need to stop. They succeeded. It is unfortunate, but understandable, that a local election with its own issues and concerns was the only way they could send that message. I congratulate Chris, who I trust will work hard to give the people of Wendover, Halton and Stoke Mandeville the representation they expect and deserve. Chris Richards

May I, through Wendover News, thank all of the people who voted for me at the recent Bucks County Council elections. I and the Green Party, under whose banner I stood, were very pleased with the result especially considering we only started organising a week or two before the election and that we had no money at all for any campaigning. It was a pleasure to give the Green Party supporters in our electoral ward the opportunity of voting for their choice of representative. Watch this space, the Green Party is planning to start up a Vale of Aylesbury local group and to become much more active and visible locally. On another topic, as readers may know, I am associated with the SOBS, the charity run by and for people bereaved by suicide. To date, the nearest local group meeting has been in Beaconsfield on the second Monday morning of the month. Starting from June, a new group is starting up in Aylesbury. I will be leading it and we will meet on the second Tuesday of the month, in the evening. The helpline of the national charity remains the same – 0844 561 6855. The contact number for the Beaconsfield group is now 0795 843 4082 and that for Aylesbury is 07890 973 751. Sobs can also be found on the Internet at www.uk-sobs.org.uk

You write Eggs! To whoever it was who threw an egg at my car as I was pulling on to the busy roundabout at the clock tower on 1 May - another couple of inches higher and it would have come through my open window and hit my passenger! A less experienced driver might have reacted badly to the loud bang on the side of the car. You could have caused a serious accident. Perhaps you could find something more productive to do with your time than attack middle-aged lady drivers.

Litter I have been proud to live in such a lovely place as Wendover for 4 years. However on the way to the railway station today (Saturday 11 May) I was sad to see so much litter in the hedges and along the bank; even a whole carrier bag of empty beer cans had been thrown over the fence. Surely we are not the only ones to have seen this? It is such a shame that walkers who travel to our village to enjoy the beauty of the Chilterns arrive off the train and find this as the sight that greets them. Why has all this litter just grown and grown? The poor flowers don't stand a chance! Please Wendover Parish Council, HELP! Carol Elligott

Michael Goody 3.5.44 - 16.3.13

Sidney Michael Goody passed away at his home in Nightingale Road, Wendover, on the 16 March aged 68 after suffering from several years of ill health. Known in Wendover as Michael, he was born on 3 May 1944 in Perfelly, Wales. Michael’s childhood years were spent in Halton where his father was based in the RAF. He had a paper round and spent many hours wandering through Wendover Woods as a lad. Michael followed in his father’s footsteps, and enrolled as a Boy entrant in to the RAF at Hereford when he was about 16. The RAF was the biggest part of his life and he made many good friends over the years. As a flight sergeant in the Catering Corps he organized many large functions one of which the Queen Mother attended and Michael was honoured to shake her hand. The RAF took him around the world including Libya, Hong Kong and the Falklands and he was stationed all over the UK. When he retired in the early nineties he threw himself in to Wendover life caring for his Mother, Auntie Maggie and Mrs Pearce. Michael also looked after his neighbor. He became a well-known and popular figure in the street and made many close friends. Michael would

always help people out; it was the way he was and he always put other people before himself. Michael was very active even though his health was not all that good, and would often be seen walking around Wendover picking up litter or collecting dandelions for our pets. He was known as the ‘man with a match-stick in his mouth’ – a throw back to when he gave up smoking many years previously. Every year he helped with the British Legion Poppy Appeal and he donated to them along with other charities such as the Donkey Sanctuary. His wonderful Dahlias; were the best in the street and he did enjoy tending to them. I was privileged to be Michael’s next door neighbour for many years and he became a firm and long standing friend to all in our family. He was very kind and good with the children and always sent them birthday cards. He always had time to talk and listen to our children as they were growing up and was an excellent role model for our boys. He would always go to great lengths to search out any obscure birthday gift that was on their wish lists. Cats were a huge part of Michael’s life and his most recent cat Purdy ruled the

roost and doted on him. Several of our cats defected next door to Michael’s house – finding peace and quiet and poached fish a more attractive option! Michael was an avid recycler – indeed he was affectionately known as ‘Michael Recycle’ to our children. He was also a great supporter of John Hampden School and Wendover Junior School and always enjoyed attending the fairs and collecting huge amounts of Vouchers for schools, buying raffle tickets and collecting silver foil and stamps all to raise money for them. Michael believed that holidays and day trips out were very important and was always encouraging us to make time to do this. We have many happy memories of trips to Legoland, Whipsnade, Quainton Railway etc thanks to him. He would always look after our English Pointer and take care of the house when we went away. He also always came with us to Frankie and Bennys to celebrate birthdays and was a great guest for Christmas lunches; turning up with lots of puddings and a flashing tie! Michael truly was a gentleman to all he met through his life and those that knew him are deeply saddened by his passing. Alison Baxter

Local Face : Cate Bowley

June 2013 www.wendovernews.co.uk 23

Cate was born in Windsor, Ontario, Canada where she spent her first 14 years. Her father then took a job with the Canadian Government and was posted to The Hague, Holland. Having never been more than a day’s travel away, this was a big adventure for Cate and her two sisters. They travelled to Europe on the Queen Mary and by train. She attended the International school there and obtained a Grade 12 American High School certificate plus a few O Levels ( Oxford) to “hedge her bets”. The family came to London in January 1964 and Cate decided to apply for a place in nurse training - an ambition since she was 3 years old. She was accepted at Barts and started in August that year. Her plans were always to return to Canada but they had to stay on for a fourth year to get the hospital badge. Fate intervened and she met David. They were married at St Bartholomew the Less in April 1970 and moved to Wendover. Here they are 43 years later and even still in the same house! Cate worked at Stoke Mandeville Hospital until the birth of Ben in 1974. She had not long gone back to work part time when Eleanor came along in 1976. After that Cate did

various things including child-minding, Marie Curie nursing and 3½ years as Welfare Assistant at John Hampden School. Cate then went back to hospital nursing at The Chiltern Hospital where she remained for 21 years, hours varying depending on family needs. Cate has always been involved in village organisations and their committees including Toddler Club, Playgroup, Brown Owl, Swimming Assoc, Scouts, WI, Wendover Art Club etc. Stitching and craft always played a big part in her life - from playing with her mother’s button box when she was tiny, to making clothes, trying ideas from magazines. She wanted to know how to design her own work so embarked on a City & Guilds Embroidery course. Five years later, she still wanted to do more, so when Ben & Ellie had finished at university, Cate signed up at Amersham College and 3 years later left with a BA(Hons) in Applied Textile Studies plus a C&G Adult Teaching Certificate. A chance meeting in Tesco’s car park lead to teaching C&G Embroidery at Aylesbury College for 3 years!

Cate now teaches occasional w o r k s h o p s i n v a r i o u s techniques, She also convenes a U3A Creative Textile Group, teaches felt making in a school and has been an active member of Aylesbury Vale Embroiderers Guild (AVEG) for years. AVEG was involved in THE BIG STITCH day at the

Ashmolean, Oxford last December and Cate was in the modern art gallery demonstrating one of her techniques. At the moment she has work in Aylesbury Museum Gallery as part of “Splendid Stitches” and has also been stitching amongst the exhibits there. In 2001, Cate was invited to exhibit for the first time in St Dunstan’s Church during Bucks Open Studios with a group of artists. This was exciting for her and confirmation that textiles could also be Art. Since then, she has taken part in Bucks Open Studios regularly. She now works with a group of former students. Called HORIZONS, they show their work at Stone in a lovely garden setting (#62 in the BOS listings). Even when they have a common theme, their work is always very different. Do pay them a visit.

View from the Chair As we start the third year in our period of office, I write again as Chairman of Wendover Parish Council having been elected once more unopposed. Like all things I’m glad that people have confidence in my abilities and I hope I’ll be told before things become stale and in need of change. I feel being Chairman of WPC is a mixed blessing. It’s challenging, interesting and the people I meet are varied but the key component that drives everyone is their love for Wendover and preserving this beautiful part of the world. I feel like a sportsman who wants to stay at the top of his game for as long as possible but when change is needed I would want to be told when the time is right for me to hang up my gavel.

Whilst talking about change, I’m really pleased to announce that we have appointed a new Clerk: Charlotte Watts. In welcoming Charlotte, it means that Bridget Bradford will be departing, although we may well see her on the odd occasion during this period of handover. Many thanks to Bridget for stepping into the breach and giving much needed help. Both she and Sue Gilbert, our Assistant Clerk, have been working hard to keep the ship afloat. On a more light hearted note, I was

interested to learn that our new Clerk is keen on fishing. Hampden Pond might have found a new bailiff!

Robert Duggan, Chairman

Community Orchard A number of letters and expressions of support have been received in the matter of establishing a Community Orchard in Walnut Tree Meadow. However, these queries show that some misconceptions still appear to exist. Initially it was the Parish Council’s wish that an agreement could be reached with AVDC, the current owners of the meadow, which would enable the Parish to plant a community orchard of some sixty varied fruit trees wholly at the Parish’s expense and for the Parish to take responsibility thereafter for the care and maintenance of the orchard. It was only when AVDC called in to question the ability of the parish to deliver this commitment over the longer term that the Parish Council offered to take ownership of the site and thereby absolve the District Council of any further financial and management responsibility. This offer has been rejected by AVDC who argue that following a Public Consultation about the future of the

meadow, a management plan was adopted that inc luded the re -introduction of a number of walnut trees, the establishment of a wetland zone and the creation of a low nutrient sustainable meadow. The District Council claims that whilst it wishes to manage the land in the most flexible way possible, it does not wish to see any part of the land permanently used for a specific purpose such as an orchard! The Parish Council position is that the time frame for this management plan has now lapsed without the walnut trees being planted and in any case there is abundant room within the meadow for AVDC’s management plan to be fulfilled alongside a modest community orchard. The Parish Council would draw attention to the fact that it already owns and manages a far greater area of recreational land within the Parish b o u n d a r y t h a n d o e s A V D C . Consequential ly it can see no justification for expressions of concern about liabilities’ arising from a failed project; which in any case would not arise if the meadow passed in to the ownership of the local council. The Parish Council further contends that were it not for its and The Wendover Society’s endeavours at a Public Inquiry, the land in question would now be built over and might not have fallen in to AVDC’s hands following the defining of the Metropolitan Green Belt in this area.
