The Emergency Temporary Standard on COVID-19 Workplace Safety Standards In July, Virginia became the first state in the U.S. to adopt a COVID-19 emergency temporary standard to enhance workplace health and safety. Since that time, medical practices throughout Virginia have wrestled with the new obligations imposed by the standard. In this session we will review the new standard, discuss best practices for complying with the applicable requirements, and assess long term changes employers may consider adopting related to COVID-19 and future potential infectious disease outbreaks.

Engaging in Times of Change Scott Carbonara, Speaker, Author, ConsultantSpiritus Communications | Hillsborough, NC

You could spend a lifetime mastering any one of the changes facing the healthcare industry today. But don’t. As soon as you master the crises du jour, another one will take its place. Instead, learn how to engage during change so you can effectively lead no matter what challenge and transition you encounter. People look to leaders for answers when the ground starts to shake from the latest implementation, funding crisis or regulatory mandate. Are you prepared to engage yourself—and then others—so you can succeed regardless of any obstacle? Learn some key lessons found in positive psychology about how to engage by investing in the people-side of change. This session will help you:• Discover why going through change can feel a lot like grief;• Leverage your personal engagement to strengthen your resilience; • Apply five practical tips to engage yourself and others through change.

Getting It Right When It Matters Most How do you “get it right” when the situation is complex? How do you operate from your “Best Self” even when you are pressured to blow up? How do you enter situations with empathy, while still communicating what is most important to you? How do you avoid getting into the same rut in difficult conversations with others? This introduction to the concepts in the upcoming book and model, Getting It Right in the Moments that Matter*, is designed to aid your thinking, feeling, and behaving when—the outcome really “matters” to you professionally or personally; the situation is challenging, and there are no clear right answers; and the relationship is critical for success. When your “Best Self” controls your actions, you obtain your best results; when your Worst Self makes an appearance, you lose control, and actions suffer as a result. Learn how to keep your Best Self in the drivers’ seat. Participants will:• Recognize how people respond when threatened—in order to reduce tension and increase successful

outcomes.• Understand and apply age-old mindfulness techniques for keeping one’s mind, body and emotions in control

before the situation grows out of control.• Process, slow down and resolve critical situations more effectively—choosing a response that reflects a best

intention rather than a reaction.• Apply learning agility to challenging situations to achieve positive outcomes.

Cybersecurity 2.0 Donny Reyes, COOEastern Data, Inc | Virginia Beach, VA

With the ever-evolving list of threat vectors that the Internet of Things (IoT), cloud services, and mobile devices continue to introduce into an already vulnerable network of servers, workstations and wired and wireless devices, it is challenging to understand which pose a real threat to today’s medical practices. Equally as difficult is to determine what the correct mix of solutions to invest time and resources into are. After a quick overview of the current medical practice threat landscape and a brief refresher of the basic security elements, we will review the new elements of what should be considered as part of a “Cybersecurity 2.0” strategy.

Documentation Alerts: Preparing for 2021 ChangesJaci J. Kipreos, CPC, CPMA, CDEO, CEMC, COC, CPC-I, PresidentPractice Integrity, LLC | San Diego, CA

The new guidelines for 2021 provide a new way to evaluate the documentation associated with medical decision making. We have been provided with expanded definitions of some familiar terms and definitions of some new phrases. Along with this is still the need to document with clarity. The expectation of thorough documentation did not go away. In this session, we will review the documentation requirements that may pose the biggest hurdle for your providers to over-come. We will discuss strategies to help your providers understand the documentation that will be necessary to explain their work.

Auditing for Risk and ReimbursementThis presentation is based on 17 years of experience auditing for a variety of types of service and places of service. We will use real life examples to create the discussion and reflect on what may be missed if these areas of risk and possible reimbursement are not a part of your next audit plan. This presentation is suited for the administrator, provider and auditor. In essence, it is for anyone who is a potential part of the audit process. Even if audits have been a part of your practice plan for the past 10 or more years, it’s time to look at your current audit plans. Learning Objectives• Understand why the changes in the delivery and payment in provider services should be a part of an audit;• Apply these changes to the scope of an audit;• Create an audit plan that will ensure that areas of risk, reimbursement and coding can all be covered.

Remote Patient Monitoring – A New Outpatient Revenue Stream Katie Nunn, MBA, CMPEBright Ideas Medical Consulting | Midlothian, VA

Remote patient monitoring (RPM) is more than just fancy activity trackers. It could be a potential revenue stream for practices with patients with chronic diseases. This is an option that allows physicians to more closely monitor their patients and get paid to do so. It sounds too good to be true, right? It is real and CMS is hoping it will help reduce readmissions for chronic illness. Learn how to start an RPM program in your practice. We will review vendor selection and implementation as well as the CPT codes to bill and when. Also, we will review how to calculate your potential new revenue.Learning Objectives: • Learn what remote patient monitoring is;• Understand the billing and reimbursement process;• Calculate your potential new annual revenue stream.
