A very big Thank you to our printer, Philip Tucker, for his help and advice and the quality printing. Many compliments have been forthcoming. Also to friends from Ruan Gazette for their help. If you do notice any mistakes, please advise me so I may correct them. So sorry we missed out delivering to some homes, there are spare copiesin the Post Office and please let us know where your letterbox is, so we can deliver in future. I apologise for the spelling errors in our first magazine, especially to Mermaids Secret! We have had a suggestion of a “for sale/wanted” page. If you do have items please give me the info with your contact number. And please please let us know what else is happening here in our wonderful village. Sue.

Cornwall Vintage Vehicle Rally August 28 th 2016

There were 3 small gazebos to welcome all who visited The Lizard on Sunday 28th August - the Car Rally; RNLI; and Bass Point NCI. A good number of villagers and visitors attended the stalls and wandered around the cars spread out over The Green from late morning throughout the afternoon.Between 60 – 70 vintage cars, motor cycles, buses and tractors wound their way from Helston Rugby Club, where they had met to follow their yearly G.W.R. (Great Western Railway) Commemorative Run. The Cornwall Vintage Vehicle Society raises money every yearfor the Leonard Cheshire Homes and another charity chosen by themselves - a cheque was given to the Air Ambulance for the year 2014-2015. “Bass Point Coastwatch Tombola on the Green 28th August 2016. With the kind agreement of the Cornwall Vintage Vehicle Society, at the gathering of vintage vehicles following the Helston to the Lizard Run, Bass Point NCI set up a Tombola Stall to raise money to maintain our Lookout at Bass Point. Thanks to the generosity of local people, the Stall raised £72.00 for our Coastwatch Station. Thank you very much for your lovely support! - From Robert Wright, Bass PointCoastwatch Fundraising Coordinator." 178

Landewednack Arts and Crafts Annual Exhibition

An enormous Thank you to Bernard and Barbara Willis for all their hard work organising the exhibition hosted at the Lizard Chapel again this year between 13th - 17th September. More exhibits than ever before, over 190, were brought in; hours of work of all descriptions, some which had been worked on for most of the year. Knitted garments and toys; different size quilts; tapestry; turned wooden items as well as drift wood ones; candles; jewellery; minitures in glass jars; prints, cards &pictures of all sizes, styles and textures.

Amongst the many positive comments from visitors -

"really good"; "wonderful variety of crafts and styles"; "cannot recommend it highly enough ... something for everyone to enjoy ... especially the artwork ... wide variety and price range ... an ideal opportunity to stock up for birthdays and Christmas. This was a super place to see & experience genuine local craftsmanship and tremendous expertise in a warm and welcoming environment."

"Many thanks to all who made it such a success; really inspirational and a great celebration of God's gifts." 9

The Lizard Lifeboat;

The Station Shop &

Heritage Centre.

The Lizard Lifeboat Station Shop wasestablished soon after our new Station officially opened in May 2012. The newly created Station Shop linked up and combined with our local "RNLI Sales Roadshow" which had previously been operating from a base at Ruan Minor since 2008.

The Shop began in a small way and worked from a couple of tables placed in a corner of the Boathouse. Thanks to the wonderful generosity of two local donors, we were able to purchase some impressive display cabinets and, after a little while, RNLI resources provided a very nice counter unit. Following two successful years of trading, additional display units and a shop till were resourced by RNLI HQ to help develop and expand our operation. A major boost to our sales opportunities was created last October when we became proud owners of a PDQ card machine which is particularly useful to coastal path walkers who do not want to carry too much cash with them.

Being situated at the bottom of a 150 ft cliff at the tip of Cornwall's southen end presents 'difficulties' that many of the RNLI Shops, with their prime positions and significant footfall do not have to cope with. However, by careful choice from the souvenir products available in the RNLI, Poole Sales Catalogue it has been possible to offer a range of products that visitors, Cornwall Coastal Path walkers and local residents find interesting, attractive and value for money. In particular, we have had wonderful support from the local community who usethe Station Shop frequently and also regularly attend our otherfundraising activities.

From clothing to Christmas cards, from key rings to calendars, from confectionery and Lifeboat Tea to toys and stationery and from shopping bags to biscuits, children's wellies and jigsaws, we offer a plethora of choice enough to satisfy the keenest of bargain hunters. It's all here for those who want a satisfying memory of their visit or to purchase gifts for family and friends.

Our Shop is operated throughout the year by a small, hardworking band of volunteers who give their time and efforts completely free of charge to raise money for the benefit of the RNLI and in particular of course, for RNLI ROSE.

In addition to running the shop, our band of volunteers are also on hand to help those visitors who wish to use our superb Heritage Centre to delve a little more deeply into the history of the Lizard Lifeboat and who want to learn more about RNLB ROSE and what happens on a day to day basis at Kilcobben Cove – especially when ROSE and her crews are tasked to go 'OUT ON A SHOUT'.

Shop and Sales Manager.
