HIGHLIGHTS ONVET in your country
OBESSU has always been known for our representation
of students in upper secondary education, and we are
now broadening that term and working more intensively
with Vocational Education and Training. It is a topic that
OBESSU have worked with for some years now, but we
still don’t know how our members work with this

The last months have been very full months for OBESSU. Afterthe Summer School we concentrated our energies on the newYouth in Action application for the Summer School in 2012 inSpain. OBESSU does a lot of policy work: We participated in theconsultation of the next strategic priorities of the European YouthForum and the Youth and Lifelong Learning programme.Currently we are busy with the preparation of a VET campaign,

MEMBER NEWSENGSO youth study session: “All inclusivesports-for-all”
ENGSO Youth (European Non Governmental Sports YouthOrganization) organized a study session on sports as an inclusivetool in Budapest in October 9th – 16th 2011. The name of thestudy session was “Towards “all inclusive sports-for-all” – Youthopening doors to all abilities”. Ida Kreutzman from FSS and ZoliTörök-Czirmay from MAKOSZ were representing OBESSU at theevent, where about 35 participants from different Europeancountries took part. Read more »

Popular Italian students’ webzine to getEuropean version
Since January 2010, on Diregiovani.it, Italian school studentsparticipate to the construction of a special webpage called‘Dalla Scuola – il giornale degli studenti’ (‘From the school – thestudents’ newspaper’). Now the successful project is ready toexpand to all European students! Read more »
EU to discuss challenges for schools and pupilsOn 10-11th of October, EU education politicians met in Gdańsk,Poland. On the agenda were discussions about important issues forschools and pupils. These discussions are vital input for the EU’snext support programme for education and training. TheCommission will present a proposal for it in November. Read more»

Wanted: Two million new teachersOn the 5th October, the United Nations celebrated World Teachers’Day. This celebration was overshadowed by a warning: there is aglobal shortage of teachers. 6 million new teachers are needed tomeet the Millennium Development Goal. This internationally agreedgoal aims to have universal primary education by 2015. MostlyAfrican regions struggle with a chronic lack of teachers. Read more

Would you recommend VET?Half of all European students are enrolled in VocationalEducation and Training of some sort, making it one of thebiggest educational sectors in Europe. But when only 27% saysthey would recommend this form of education to other people(according to a Eurobarometer published by the EuropeanCommission), something is not right. Read more »

Having a strong communication between OBESSU and its members but also between its members
themselves should give the best possible synergies we need to be active Europe-wide.
Furthermore please inform us about the dates of your GA and give us the possibility to be in contact with thenew board members!
