Reflection Statement (NUTR 406) In this course, Medical Nutrition Therapy, I was introduced to an important part of dietitan’s role at a hospital setting. I never knew being a dietitian can mean becoming a part of the medical team in a hospital setting to care for a patient. In this class, I was introduced to the pathophysiology of certain diseases including risk factors, clinical findings, nutrition assessment, medical management and nutrition management and care plan for them. I learned general information about each disease and was taught that each case in unique and may need a little different nutrition care plan. I learned how to assess and classify patient’s unique needs and find reliable resources to get information about the disease, causes of it, symptoms and treatments. I learned how important a registered dietitian’s job is in helping a patient heal from a diseased state. I learned the importance of nutrition care in a variety of patients such as the ones with diabetes, upper and lower GI and cardiovascular diseases. In this class, I was provided with different articles and sources to learn about related topics and become educated on the different research results and views on a certain topic. I learned to apply critical thinking to important matters such as planning nutrition care for a patient and that working as a hospital dietitian, I will be working with a team of medical professionals including medical doctors, specialists, nurses, speech pathologist, social worker and many other professionals

I learned how important a registered dietitians job is in helping a patient heal from a diseased state. In this class, I was provided with different articles and sources to learn about related topics and become educated on the different research results and views on a certain topic. In addition, I learned the importance of nutrition and diet on ones life and especially at a diseased stage. Plus, I was introduced to the alternative ways of getting nutrient in patients body when their GI tract is partially functioning or not functioning at all. This part of the course particularly stood out for me because I learned how important and crucial a dietitians role is in an acute care setting. I will use al the information I learned in this class in my future career as a registered dietitian. If I choose to be at a hospital, I believe I have general basic information and can build up a strong knowledge by gathering experience.
