Reflection Statement (NUTR 302 L) In this class, Advanced Nutrition Lab, I was introduced to Nutrition Care Plan process for patients. I learned valuable and important information such as reading the lab results and associating the values to certain imbalances and being able to apply that information when working on a nutrition care plan. Working on the ncp notes, I realized that how important a dietitian’s job is when it comes to nutritional needs of a patient. I learned that different health issues and the severity of them determine what kind of nutrition care is necessary. I also learned that a registered dietitian holds a big responsibility when it comes to doing research on patient’s needs and putting together a care plan. Within the ncp, I learned to calculate many important measurements such as body mass index, usual body weight and many more and use those values to determine nutritional needs of patients such as energy needs and fluid requirements. The entire process requires a lot of critical thinking, patience and accurate research. In this class, I also learned how to use the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Nutrition Terminology Reference Manual. I learned how to use different sections of this manual including assessment, diagnosis, intervention as well as monitoring and evaluation. In addition, we performed a few lab assignments to become familiar with the lab and research part of being in the nutrition field. For example, we measured the amount of albumin, glucose, haemoglobin and hematocrit amounts in samples. These experiments introduced me to the scientific side of being in the nutrition field. This class created a strong basis on the ncp process which I will be using when I become a registered dietitian. I have a deeper understanding of what a registered dietitian will do in the field of

This class created a strong basis on the ncp process which I will be using when I become a registered dietitian. I have a deeper understanding of what a registered dietitian will do in the field of healthcare. The final project stood out for me because I learned how to put together a research paper by looking for a gap in the research area, pick a topic, conduct a study and put together a manuscript.
