We all met up at the chamber of commerce at around 8 o’clock. We also got a good breakfast like the time before which consisted of muffins and juice. We then waited for our speaker, Kurt Froelich, who came to speak about how important agriculture is in our state. He had a very interest-ing presentation which showed where North Dakota ranked in production of many plants and animal products.

After he was done we loaded up our mini buses to head over to Dean’s Meat Market. Half of us made it to Dean’s but the other half had broken down on the other bus. We waited until the other half go to deans with a new bus and then he started his tour. While in the back room we saw how they cut and process all the meat they receive from various cus-tomers. Dean then showed us the back freezer which had hundreds of pounds of meat stored in it, and he explained he would have it all ready to sell by the end of the week. He then told us that they had 3 workers, him and his wife with an extra hand.

Once we went to load the bus again we headed to Richard-ton to visit Stone Mill Incorporated. Here we learned how they sort and package all different types of flax and we even found out they have a color sorter which sorts the flax by the color. We then went on to see the shakers which sorted out all impurities from the flax. Once done inside we went to load up again when our second bus broke down. While we tried to get it started with the help of the Stone Mill workers after they were unsuccessful we had to call in for another bus.

We then searched for the tormaschy dairy farm but got lost for about 15 minutes. While on our way we found the hid-den dirt road that lead us to the dairy farm. Once we got to the dairy farm we toured how they milk the cows and also got to look into the giant tank where he stores all his milk. He showed us his corrals he keeps his cattle in so he can control their feed. We then got to go see the calves that were inside and answered question about the tour to win prizes.

After we were done there we headed to the Richardton gas station to eat Hot Stuff pizza for lunch. When we finished eating we loaded up and left for Dickinson. Once we got to Dickinson we went to Stockmen’s Livestock. Inside we toured their auction site where auctions are held every Thursday. Once we were done inside he showed us how they used their manure and made it into fertilizer for the public to purchase.

It was a very eventful and interesting day for everyone. Overall we learned a lot about how important agriculture

really is in our small town.

Zach Keller has expanded his role to include Financial Service Represen-tative du-ties. Zach started in 2008 as a part time teller. Zach is currently pursuing his Bachelor’s Degree in Ac-counting and Business Administration at Dickin-son State University.

American Bancor, Ltd. is pleased to announce Shane Klitzke has been named Information Technology Coordinator. Shane will continue his duties as Network Administrator as well as coordinate various department projects re-lating to information sys-tems and telecommunica-tion systems. Shane has been with American since August of 2001.

Ryan Beck has been named as Business Banking Offi-cer/ Super-visor for the Dickinson market. Ryan is a graduate of Dickinson State Uni-versity and the Graduate School of Banking in Wis-consin. He has more than 13 years of experience in the banking industry, all with American Bank Center and has been a Business Bank-ing Officer since 2004.

Kelly Barnes has been named as Mortgage Loan Market Processor. Kelly joined American in 2008

and has held the positions of Reception-ist and Mortgage Loan Proc-

essor. Most currently Kelly worked for Invest-ment Centers of America as a Client Service Asso-ciate.

Fisher Industries recently announced employee up-dates. Robin Mueller is now mar-keting coordinator. Robin previously worked for Dickinson Public Schools as an administrative assis-tant. Robin has degrees in graphic design and busi-ness administration. Jen Messer joins Fisher Industries as human re-sources director in June. Jen has an extensive back-ground in banking and financing. Messer most recently worked with American Trust Center administering retirement plans. Kim Groll transferred to the position of accounts receivable director in Au-gust. Kim joined Fisher Industries in 1996 and has a degree in Accounting. Angela Reiter fills the posi-

Danny Hood was recently named gas superintendent of Montana-Dakota Utili-ties’ Badlands Region. Danny will be based in Dickinson. The region covers Montana-Dakota’s service territories in eastern Montana, west-ern North Dakota and north western South Dakota. Danny joined Montana-Dakota in 2007 as a staff engineer in the gas distribu-tion department at the gen-eral office. Before joining the company, Danny worked for the Montana Department of Transporta-tion for 15 years. Danny is a graduate of

degree. He also is a li-

censed professional engi-

neer.

Dr. Lonnie Neuberger of Dickinson was elected presi-dent of the North Dakota Dental Association at its an-nual session Grand Forks.

The NDDA is an advocate of oral health, promoting educa-tion and service to its mem-bers and the public. It was chartered by the American Dental Association and repre-sents 335 dentists that are organized into five districts in North Dakota.

Medcenter One board-certified family medicine physician Dr. Joel Blanch-ard was recently a guest speaker at the North Dakota Workforce Safety & Insur-ance fourth annual Open Forum event in Dickinson, N.D.

Dr. Blanchard is the medi-cal director of the Medcen-ter One Occupational Health Clinic.

The Oct. 13 forum was an in-teractive exchange of ideas between the medical commu-nity and employers to identify ways to improve safety prac-tices and health outcomes for injured workers.

Medcenter One Occupational Health Clinic provides one central location for all occu-pational health medicine ser-vices. With locations in Bis-marck, Dickinson and Minot, the goal of occupational health is to develop programs specific to each employer that keeps their workers safe, well

and productive.

The annual Operation Christmas Child drive for shoe boxes has begun once again. Each year, Operation Christmas Child delivers millions of gift-filled shoe boxes around the world to boys and girls who are suf-fering because of war, natu-ral disaster, poverty, illness, or neglect. St. John Lu-theran Church in Dickinson will be a shoe box drop-off site for this region. Pre-printed colorful Christmas shoe boxes and brochures with information on how to pack a shoe box may be picked up at the church. Gift ideas for the boxes in-clude: small toys such as cars, balls, dolls, stuffed animals; school supplies such as crayons, markers, pens and pencils; hygiene items such as toothbrush, toothpaste, combs, wash-cloths; and other miscella-neous items such as hard candy, gum, socks, etc. Please use only new items. The national collection week will be Sunday, No-vember 13 – Sunday, No-vember 20. Office hours at the church are: Monday – Friday: 9am – 4pm and the address is 146 6th Avenue West. We welcome filled shoe boxes from businesses, civic groups, community clubs, churches, families and other organizations. SW North Dakota packed 900 shoe boxes last year and we are hoping to pack over 1000 boxes this year! Agriculture Commit-tee The committee had a short meeting before they started setting up for the Livestock Show.

Ambassadors Mem-bership Committee Committee Members have been out and visiting our members. Planning for this year‟s Sampling of Sicily is underway. It is set for January 16th at the Ramada. Tickets will be $17 for adults in advance and $20 at the door. Children‟s tickets will be $7. The committee is planning on having wine for sale as guests are arriving.

Education Committee Next meeting will be in November.

Promotions Committee The committee will be advertising with The Pennysaver in the “Community Pride!”addition in No-vember. The Craft Show is still taking en-tries. There will be Chamber Buck give-a-ways during This year‟s Display of Lights will be December 2nd from 5pm to 7pm. The Committee is looking for floats to be entered. Business After Hours are being planned into 2012.

Airport Committee Great Lakes Airlines has been dili-gently working over this past sum-mer on the boarding issues. Flights seem to be more accommodating to passengers. The committee will continue to receive up to date statis-tics. Hertz is now at the Airport and offers one way rentals with Bis-marck. The airport will have an open house on November 15, 2011. The airport will be bidding on a new airline August/2012 and will be asking for letters of support from Businesses.

The Dickinson Area Chamber of Commerce was host to another great Annual Banquet and Meeting. The Chamber re-

ported that they currently represent 454 members. The Chamber continues to see an increase in membership year after

year. Another big success this past year was the Chamber ensured over $80,000 stayed in the Dickinson Community

through our shop local “Chamber Bucks” program.
