    BACK NINE TAKES ITS TOLL!

    June 27, 2006By: Don Nichols

    Ansley Tuesday Afternoon Golf Tour

After 2 days of rain, 18 ATAGers were greeted with

sunny skies and a remarkably dry golf course for the 12thmatch of the 2006 ATAG season. Taking on the backnine (which eerily resembles the front) proved to be mostchallenging for the players as evidenced by scoressomewhat higher than last weeks front nine scores.Once again, teams were assembled by the players orderof arrival, and due to some match day cancellations, thefollowing groups were paired, with two threesomesselecting draw partners at the conclusion of their rounds.

OTHER TIDBITS: Ron Majors showed up without notice and replaced

    Ben

Cass who arrived too late to participate in the match.Ollie Kennon, Brooks Cowles, and Henry Sawyercancelled their appearance on the morning of the match, and Bill Benning came off the wait list to join the field.

It was joke night again on the porch-----but this time itfailed miserably after one attempt after another was metwith either puzzled looks or stone silence broken only bythe sounds of crickets off in the distance. Marty Arnoldled off with three jokes he pulled from the internet beforehe himself was pulled. Richard Batelaan offered anAnsley Shuttle joke that no one understood. TomThornhill elected to read a joke--in a manner much like afourth grade teacher. Tom Kisgen offered a reading

that was halted at the outset because it was the sameone given by Ron Majors a couple of weeks prior (theinfamous a reading, by Ron Majors) DonNichols then jumped in with two jokes that were alsofound to be less than amusing, and Danny Morris thentold a joke that also was stopped at its outset because itwas a repeat of the one told by Tom Kisgen two weeksprior. Macabre jokester Bill Benning told a long windedjoke that was neither macabre nor funny. The criticalcrowd did manage to laugh, however, at the rabbi joketold by Mike Gutt as he departed, one that he admittedhe heard from his wife.

Doug Healy revealed that he opted to rake the sand andthen lift, clean, and replace his ball in the trap because hefelt the traps were like concrete and should have beenproperly raked after the rains by the grounds crew beforethe match. He was immediately dubbed by fellowATAGers to be an authentic sand bagger, but therecalcitrant Healy defiantly vowed that he would do itagain if the sand was not properly prepared to his liking.(see side bar recommended summer reading)

The Commissioner has ruled that there will be no

match next Tuesday due to the 4th

of July holiday, solate next week look for the Commissioners Call ForPlayers for the July11th match. If there are more than20 players wanting to play, seniority and attendancerecord will be given priority.
