As the school year enters its’ second month, the request for help in filling out DRS Referral Packets has increased. LaTricia Davis (CPS Transition Specialist) is the DRS Liaison facilitating this process. She has helped plenty of students, teachers, and case managers to complete the packet and collect materials that are required before submitting to DRS. DRS is the biggest source of funding for adults with disabilities in the state of Illinois for persons needing vocational supports. This is a service that all students should be signing up to take advantage of. Priority for having their student packets entered will go to seniors who will be graduating this Spring. In order to get those students the services they need from DRS, it is being asked that those packets be submitted by Halloween. It’s not too late to get that process started. Use the link below to access the packet and have your students fill them out. LaTricia Davis ([email protected] ) is available to conduct group sessions with students to explain services and sign up. Email her for an appointment! Reminder: Use the ODLSS Transition Resource Tool Guide: If you are a CPS employee, use this link to access this folder on the Drive. The 2nd ODLSS Transition Fair and the 1st Annual ODLSS Job Fair were both held at the South Shore Cultural Center on October 3. Both were heavily attended reaching out to roughly 600 CPS students during the coordinated event. Approximately 30 Schools, 17 community agencies, and 15 employers attended the event. Mariel Hamer, CPS, helped to coordinate the event and was really happy about the turnout, “I’m really pleased that we had such a large turnout this year, not only from our student body, but from the community agency reps for our transition fair and the local business owners for our job fair. I’m really hopeful that some meaningful connections were made today and students will follow-up on those.”

The next big event for students in the ongoing Youth Employment Program which is hosted by CPS and the Mayor’s Office for People with Disabilities (MOPD) will be Disability Mentoring Day on November 14th.
