Cooking up a storm in grade 5

In grade 5 this term we completed a unit of work

called ‘Cooking Up A Storm’. In it, we applied

knowledge gained in our cooking lessons and

utilised business practices to plan, market, make

and sell a product to the school community at

lunchtime. Four groups, or ‘enterprises’, competed

to make the most profit and overall the groups

made more than $400 to put towards the school’s

cooking budget for next year.

The enterprise that made the most profit was

Sweet Tooth led by Kayley and consisting of

Tharindu, Eliza, Ruby Mc, Eva, Nicole, Chloe P, Jia, Sophie, Aaron, Takumi and Josh.

Well done to all of the students who participated.

Cooking up a storm in grade 5

Four students took on the role of CEO, leading their enterprise through the process. This is

what they had to say:

‘A real-world skill I learned was patience. I had to learn this because not everyone got all

the tasks done as quickly as we all would have wanted’ – Kayley P of Sweet Tooth.

‘Something that I can take away from this project is that many things can go wrong but

always have a solution’ – Claire C of Scroll Up!

‘I liked it when we started selling. Even though I have been in lots of businesses (with my

dad all over Australia) it was still exciting to see so many people in line to buy our treats’

– Anna L from Cinnamon Trolls.

‘The best part about the project was in my opinion the production. I love cooking no matter

how difficult, and it was a nice challenge to keep the team focused despite a few

distractions’ – Aidan P from Cinnamon Treats.
