Vietnamese president announces desire to invest more in Mozambique A Mozambique-Vietnam business forum organized by the Confederation of Economic Associations of Mozambique (CTA) and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Vietnam (CCIV) took place on March 12 in Maputo during the visit to Mozambique of the president of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, Truong Tan Sang. The event, held in order to explore business opportunities in both countries, was attended by Filipe Jacinto Nyusi, the president of the Republic of Mozambique; Vietnamese President Truong Tan Sang; Mozambican Industry and Commerce Minister Ernesto Max Tonela; Vietnamese Deputy Trade and Industry Minister Cao Quoq Hung; Rogério Manuel, the president of the CTA; Luís Sitoe, the executive director of the CTA; Vu Tien Loc, the chairman of the CCIV; and about 200 companies and representatives of ministries from the two countries. The two presidents welcomed the creation of the Movitel joint venture between the Vietnamese army’s telecommunications group Viettel and the Mozambican company SPI, saying that its success reflected the effectiveness of Vietnamese investment in Mozambique. However, they also said that trade between Mozambique and Vietnam was still too modest, below the potential created by the good political relations between the two countries. Nyusi called for an increase in the volume of trade and encouraged Vietnamese companies to invest in the country: "The expansion and diversification of areas of economic cooperation is needed. Mozambique hopes for investment from Vietnam in energy, agriculture, pharmaceutics, the maritime economy, construction, transport and communications, among others”. The CTA reports that the Indonesian craft association is organizing its 18th craft fair and exhibition, which will take place on April 20-24 in Jakarta, Indonesia. The forum is expected to be attended by over 1,300 exhibitors and B2B meetings will be organized between businessmen

Underlining the potential market and the numerous business opportunities that Mozambique represents, Truong Tan Sang said that Vietnam will strive to be one of the largest investors in the country. "We hope that in the coming years, our investments will be in the order of $1 billion, compared to the current $500 million", he said, expressing his desire for Vietnam to become one of the 10 biggest investors in Mozambique. During the forum, a memorandum of understanding was signed between the CTA and the VCCI to facilitate business

and exchanges of experiences between Mozambican and Vietnamese businessmen. Rogério Manuel pointed out that among many challenges, one of the most important is Mozambique’s deficit in rice and wheat production and stressed the importance of establishing partnerships with Vietnam on transfers of agricultural production technology, reminding the success of the joint project in Zambezia province that allowed a double of the rice yield.

The CTA has announced that in partnership with the municipal authorities of the city of Thekhini and the governmental of the Kwazulu Natal province, the consulate of Mozambique in Durban in South Africa is organizing a seminar on March 23-24 for the dissemination of investment opportunities in the province of Maputo. This event will be followed by a meeting between businessmen from both countries. The objectives of the meeting are to increase bilateral cooperation and the implementation of the agreements signed

between Mozambique and South Africa and to boost business in the country. The event is expected to be attended by South African investors from different economic areas, especially agribusiness and shipping. In this context, the CTA invites all interested parties to complete their registration through the following contact by March 15. The signing ceremony of the partnership and cooperation protocol between the Banco Comercial e de Investimentos (BCI) and Meadow Mozambique Lda. took place on March 11 at the BCI center in Maputo. On this occasion, the credit card Meadow was officially launched, a new payment solution to be used in the Meadow network. The ceremony was formalized by David Marais and Gary Arnold, the director and director-general of Meadow, respectively, and BCI CEO Paulo Sousa in the presence of employees of Meadow and BCI, partners and guests.

This payment solution with new and relevant advantages is addressed to individual entrepreneurs and micro, small, medium and large companies. The card will allow domestic payments of credit purchases and only in BCI’s POS, installed in the Meadow’s structure and commercial network, as well as elsewhere previously defined. Meadow Mozambique Lda. has as its object among other things, the production and distribution of foodstuffs.

The Instituto Nacional de Minas (National Institute of Mining) - INAMI, beneficiary and executing agency, intends to carry out an external audit in order to obtain the opinion of independent auditors regarding its financial and operational information, an evaluation of its internal control system and the use of resources allocated. Accordingly, the INAMI invites eligible competitors to express their interest by presenting proposals for the implementation of external audit services in INAMI.
