Hi Hawks! It’s your new president. With our term just starting, I’m super excited to begin working with everyone. The new board has already gotten a huge jumpstart on planning for the upcoming year. At our board meetings, we’ve already started discussing major events like RTC and Fall Rally, and over the summer, we have some awesome ideas that I hope everyone will BEE able to see come to fruition.

Hey Hawks, I’m so excited for you to see what kind of skills I have in store as your bulletin editor! I hope you all enjoy the newsletters I will be creating throughout my term. Remember to continue sending in a bunch of articles and visuals just like you did this month!

New Board

Without Key Club I wouldn’t BEE the person I am today. In this club (that I am proud to call my second family, and on occasion, home), the skills this organization has taught me is life changing. Public speaking, organizing events, BEEing a leader... These are things I will use to swim to success, like the Sea Monkey I’m proud to be. But why President? For me, I had to find my love in Key Club almost on my own—others had rolled their eyes about how enthusiastic I was, but as President, I have the opportunity to bring this fire into the eyes of our members that drives them day and night, to go above and beyond, to serve their community that takes my breath away, and to see them develop the same way I did.

Why did you run for your position?

Sheila Bibera | Vice President

I ran as your guys’ Vice President because I wanted to help the club improve and just make it better overall. As VP, I can help out our president or other board members with any kinds of things. What influenced me on running was just motivation and the love I’ve had for this club. I’ve been in Key Club for two years now, and within those two years I always thought of running for something, but never knew what position. I can help become better at this position by always helping and asking fellow board members if they have all their tasks done and just to communicate as well. Communication is always key when it comes to such a big family we have. I’ll also get to know more of the general members much more and to encourage every one of them to know each other. I am very excited to work and serve everyone of you guys as your 2016-2017 Key Club Vice President.

Kayla DeSoto | Secretary My freshman year was a little hectic and I was unable to join Key Club, but sophomore year I tried my best to fit it in my schedule. I grew to like Key Club more than I expected. The community service I’ve done and friendships I’ve made are the amazing benefits of being in Key Club. I have never and would never regret my decision of joining Key Club and that’s why I ran for the position of Secretary. If I enjoy Key Club so much, why not help be one of the leaders of the club? I realize as Secretary, the “back bone” of the club, it’s going to be stressful—but the last few years have been pretty stressful for me. The fact that I enjoy Key Club so much is only going to aid my spirit and dedication to the club, no matter how overwhelming. I hope to be a great Secretary to you all and make you proud!

Melanie Stetzer | Treasurer

I had the intentions of wanting to run for a board position for quite a while. I wasn’t too sure what to run for, I just knew that I wanted to represent our club in some way. After doing research on each position, I saw that becoming treasurer would not only be an excellent opportunity, but fitting for me. My organization, thoroughness, and math skills all seemed right for the position. I have high hopes for this upcoming term. I’m looking forward to it!

Jayden Curameng | Bulletin Editor

Being the Bulletin Editor of Northwest’s Key Club has been a dream of mine since I first joined during my freshman year. I ran for Bulletin Editor because I believe this role is best suited for me. I’ve always had a passion for taking pictures and editing, which are some of the reasons why I wanted this position. I believe taking the job as club editor will help me develop new skills and knowledge that can benefit me in the future. I’m completely dedicated to this position and I’m ready to show the club what I can do. I can’t wait to see what our amazing new board will bring during this new term!

I had a dream, and I followed it. I ran for Senior Representative. I wanted to be more involved in my favorite club, Key Club. I wanted to inspire others to be more involved in the community because it is the key to success. The 2015-2016 Senior Representative encouraged me to run and help NWCTA’s Key Club grow. I am going to track the seniors’ volunteer hours, encourage club spirit, and help the senior class get to know each other better. I look forward to 2016-2017!

Alexandria Fuzzard | Senior Class Representative

I ran for Junior Rep because I wanted to be a part of the group of people who would make the club even bigger. By being rep, I can experience the growth of the club and how much my class is involved in the process. I fell in love with the club, and because of the loving energy, this pushed me to run for rep. My main goals are to communicate with my class to keep them up to date with any occasion and to have an amazing year with them.

From my point of view, being Sophomore Representative is a great way to expand my skills in being efficient and time management. I personally think I have the right mindset and character for the position, so I went for it. Also, I see this as a great stepping stone for possibly moving upwards on the Key Club board in future years.

Natalie Valenzuela | SAA

I decided to run for the SAA position because of the responsibility to lead and create the cheers, as well as how interactive it is with other members. I consider myself an outgoing individual, which is an attribute needed to be able to lead and create the cheers that our club is known for. Also, my position requires the ability to instill authority between the members and the board, so I decided to run for this position because I consider myself a leader. I hope to be as successful as the previous SAA’s, however I plan to bring more of an authoritative, while fun ambience to the club, so the members can behave well during meetings and events. Overall, I decided to run for the SAA position because of the leadership responsibilities and the creative mindset required to create cheers.

I ran for SAA because I was inspired with the amount of leadership that was bestowed among them, especially at events like RTC and Fall Rally. Also, it was a good first step into getting a higher position in the Key Club board.

I ran for SAA because I thought it would better my Key Club experience. I think that Key Club is a great organization and I’m happy to be a part of it. For this term, I would like to help our club make it far in RTC and maybe even win the spirit stick! To achieve this, the other SAA’s and I already started our cheers and are working together on icebreakers.

(Out of the Darkness) WALK 2016

Shaila Salinas | Senior Member This year’s walk we were stationed by the bead necklaces, where anyone could grab a certain color that correlates to what they’ve been through or experienced. Right next to our booth was a “Remembrance Tent” where families could hang photos of their loved ones that have passed away from suicide. It’s crazy to see that there were young children involved, and it kind of made me tear up a bit because they still had so much to life for. Anyway, to lighten up the mood, there were many dogs around! Overall, it was a pretty fun event.

Moira Vasquez | Senior Member At the Out of the Darkness Walk this year, we worked at the Honor Beads booth. At this booth, volunteers and event attendees (even dogs) were able to grab beads to wear throughout the day, and each color of beads represented support for numerous things or symbols for what one has experienced (personal struggle, loss of a loved on to suicide, etc.). They were also able to grab hearts corresponding to the same colors and write the name of their loved one to put on a black board as a sign of respect and remembrance. Working at this booth was an emotional experience, especially noticing the beads that people were grabbing. Seeing people hold back their tears or breaking down unexpectedly was also very saddening to look at, but we were able to extend our condolences and provide comfort. However, although the event was very emotional, it was a great and very fun way to remember and honor people who have passed.

DODGEBALL TOURNAMENT

NWCTA KEY CLUB’S 3RD ANNUAL

Kayla DeSoto | Secretary At a dodgeball tournament, you dodge balls and throw them at your opponent. I can sure throw a ball and I’m good at dodging them, but my team still lost our match; I was very upset to say the least. Even though we lost, the 2016 Dodgeball Tournament was a blast! I can’t wait to play again next year and hopefully win.

Sheila Bibera | Vice President This was my second time around going to the Dodgeball Tournament. I remember last year I helped and just volunteered; however, this year, I decided why not make a team and play. I was on a team with 2 of the SAA’s, Secretary, and one of our friends, which were: Matthew, Natalie, Kayla, and Andrea. It was really fun even though we lost both times, but it’s the thought that counts. I was really excited about it and I had an amazing time. I can’t wait for the next tournament we have in Spring 2017!

On March 31st, NWCTA Key Club held its annual Dodgeball Tournament. This event was held to fundraise money for the club and to promote it as well. Anyone who attends Northwest CTA was able to sign-up and play. This year’s turn-out was great, and hopefully next year it will be even better!
