Initial Evaluation+ First portion of the New gTLD Program application review process.

+ Determines whether an applicant has sufficient resources to operate a Top-Level Domain and whether the application meets specified criteria.

Extended Evaluation+ Provides an opportunity for an applicant to fix parts of an

application found to be problematic during Initial Evaluation.

Current Statistics (as of 23 October 2013)+ 1762 new gTLD applications passed Initial Evaluation

- Over 90% of all applications+ 38 applications are eligible for Extended Evaluation

+ 5 applications are on hold due to pending change requests or because additional information is required from the applicant

+ 3 applications did not pas Initial Evaluation and will not move forward

Contracting+ Contracting is the process in which ICANN will notify eligible new

gTLD applicants and engage with them through execution of the Registry Agreement.

+ Statistics as of 23 October 2013:- 662 applicants have been invited to Contracting- 67 Registry Agreements have been signed

Pre-Delegation Testing (PDT)+ Occurs after a Registry Agreement has been executed.

+ Ensures that an applicant has the capacity to operate a new gTLD in a stable, secure manner.

+ Every new Registry must demonstrate that it has established operations in accordance with the technical and operational criteria described in the Applicant Guidebook. PDT must be passed prior to Delegation of a string into the Internet's Root Zone.

+ As of 23 October 2013, 13 Registries had passed PDT.

Program were introduced into the Internet's Root Zone, the central authoritative database for the Internet's Domain Name System.

+ All of these new gTLDs are Internationalized Domain Names (IDNs), meaning they consist of non-Latin characters.

1) Trademark Clearinghouse (TMCH)+ Global repository for trademark data, first of its kind in domain name

space.

+ Registering a trademark with the TMCH helps protect right holders through access to Sunrise and Claims services for all new gTLDs.

2) Uniform Rapid Suspension System (URS)+ Offers a relatively low-cost, fast path to relief for rights holders

experiencing the most clear-cut cases of infringement.

+ Registry required to “lock” the infringing domain within 24-hours of receiving notification from a URS provider.

3) Post-Delegation Dispute Resolution Procedures (PDDRPs)

+ Help protect against potential misconduct by a new gTLD Registry after a string has been delegated

+ 3 Procedures: Trademark PDDRP, Registry Restriction DRP, Public Interest Commitments DRP

+ No specific date for next round of new generic Top-Level Domains. ICANN is intently focused on shepherding the current round of applied-for strings safely into the Internet.
