The New gTLD-programme

In June 2008, during their Paris meeting, the ICANN Board approved the introduction of a programme of new generic Top Level Domains (New gTLDs). End of 2013 the first of 1,000 New gTLDs will launch. Of these 1,000 New gTLDs up to 600 are open for registration. The New gTLDs range from niche TLDs e.g. .golf to broad TLDs e.g. .web and .cars.

Ascio – One connection to all New gTLDs

ICANN has established a Trademark Clearinghouse (TMCH). TMCH acts as a single database of authenticated registered trade-marks to help protect brands and intellectual property rights at all sunrises throughout the delegation of all New gTLDs.

Ascio is an accredited Trademark Clearing House-agent and can issue a SMD-file/sunrise code that your customers can use to register domains in the Sunrise period. Using Ascio as an agent you have the option to extend the period of the service from 60 days to cover all New gTLD-launches (Up to 5 years).

The Sunrise period is the time at the launch of a New TLD before public domain registration for the TLD has begun, allowing brand/trademark owners (mainly companies) to register related domain names.

After the Sunrise period follows the Landrush period. This is the period during which domain names are available for registration, usually to a closed group, to entities that do not own a trademark in the name they wish to register, for example generic terms like loan or car, and thus would not qualify for registration during the Sunrise period.

After the Landrush, comes the General Availability. This is first-come, first-serve and open to the public.

Our flexible queue features will enable you to collect and manage your customers’ domain names to all available TLDs and launch phases well in advance.
