Course Overview

A ‘from the ground up’ course that will teach delegates all the necessary skills required to build a basic network and understand the tools needed to achieve this. This course will include Network Surveillance products as well as other devices common to this discipline such as IP Telephony, NAS (Network Attached Storage), Printing, Routers and Switches (both managed and unmanaged). We will also cover transmission methods, cyber security implementation and network addressing.

Course Delivery

The Networking Foundation Course is delivered over two days and is lecture based using slide presentations, the lecture is accompanied by both activity based guided practice and questionnaire sessions. Each lecture is approximately 40 minutes followed by the activity session for 20 minutes.

Breaks are offered throughout the day (morning break 15 mins, lunch break 30 mins and afternoon break 15 mins), lunch will be provided (please advise us if there are any special dietary requirements).

The course will conclude with a final practical assessment. A certificate of completion will be provided for course attendance and also a pass certificate for the final practical assessment.

Part 2: Delegate Learning OutcomesO B J E C T I V E S

Learning Outcome

Upon completion of the NORBAIN Academy Networking Foundation Course delegates will be able to demonstrate understanding of the following subjects:

• What is a Computer Network

• TCP/IP

• PING/IP CONFIG Command and Networking Scanning Software

• Hardware Including Switches, Cameras and Other Host Devices

• Network Device Configuration

• IP Addressing and DHCP

• Routing and Routing Protocols

• Subnetting

• TCP and UDP

• DNS

• The Internet

• SNMP

• Cyber Security and Implementation

• Troubleshooting

Assessment Method

During the course delegates will be assessed upon their understanding of each of the above subjects by being given practical exercises (guided by the instructor) or an online questionnaire (where they will be encouraged to work with other delegates). At the end of the course (day 2) there will be a final practical examination.

Outcomes Criteria

Each delegate will be able to put into practice what they have learnt and install and manage a fully functional network, they will understand what hardware may be required to design and implement this, they will also be able to communicate effectively with network administrators and engineers in order to ensure successful system integration.
