NAU Jazz Festival 2020 Dear Jazz Educators, Northern Arizona University Jazz Studies would like to invite you the 58th annual NAU Jazz Festival to be held February 20-22, 2020.

The NAU Jazz Festival is an ABODA sanctioned festival for middle school, high school, and community colleges. Our festival is a non-competitive setting, focused on a positive performance and educational experience. Big bands and combos perform for three adjudicators to receive ratings and comments. Following the performances each group participates in a clinic with one of our esteemed adjudicator/clinicians. Directors will receive written comments as well as recordings of both their band’s performance and adjudicator comments.

We are pleased to announce our 2020 guest artist: acclaimed trumpeter Philip Dizack. Philip is widely recognized as one of the most talented trumpet players of our generation and regularly collaborates with jazz luminaries such as Bobby Watson, Eddie Palmieri, Jimmy Cobb, and more. He is also the newly appointed Assistant Professor of Jazz Trumpet at the University of North Texas. Please read more about Philip on the NAU Jazz Festival 2020 website.

Philip Dizack will present a general masterclass on Friday, February 21st at 1:00 pm in Ardrey Memorial Auditorium. The event is free and open to the public. Our Guest Artist Concert will also be Friday, February 21st at 8pm featuring the Philip Dizack with a combined adjudicator/faculty group, and NAU Jazz Ensemble One. Tickets will be available starting in early January through the NAU Central Ticket Office at (888) 520-7214.

Your application form is included with this letter. Please submit your application and payment by the due date of Friday, February 7, 2020. In recent years we have had a very full schedule with

waiting lists for each day of the festival. Applications will be processed as they are received so please return your completed application at your earliest convenience.
