Sorry Day gives people a chance to come together and share the steps towards healing for the Stolen Generations, their families and communities. Students, staff and community members came together for a Sorry Day ceremony at the school today. The ceremony began with a minute’s silence as a way to remember the injustices of the past. The minute’s silence was followed by the Principal’s address which outlined some of the recent steps taken towards reconciliation. Sorry Day is also about us looking forward to an equitable Australia for all that is based upon mutual respect. After we heard Kevin Rudd’s National Sorry Day Apology the Sorry Day Prayer was read by Molly Smith. The ceremony finished with everyone placing a paper native Hibiscus underneath the Aboriginal flag. The native Hibiscus reminds us of strength, hope and resilience.

Students listed to gospel stories, sang songs, participated in prayers and entertained with art and a performance from Albert. At the end of the session all students received a little gift to take home. Thank you to the Sketch and Scripture team who visit our school.
