PRINCIPAL’S NOTES
NSW PSSA & CHS Events We have received information regarding sporting events for the remainder of this year. All Term 3 and 4 2020 NSW PSSA & CHS activities are now cancelled and will not be rescheduled. All NSW PSSA & CHS knockouts/statewide competitions have also been cancelled for 2020. The health and wellbeing of everyone involved is paramount and at the heart of this decision. We recognise the pressures that schools are currently experiencing and supporting staff and students remains our highest priority.
SRC Pyjama The SRC Pyjama Day is being held on Friday, 3rd July. It is a fundraiser to support children in foster care. The national date of the fundraiser is 17th July, but this falls in the holidays, so we are holding it on the last day of Term 2. A gold coin donation is required. Enclosed footwear must be worn. Dress warmly, no singlet tops to be worn.
Book Club Issue 4 is due on Wednesday, 17th June. An order form can be dropped into the office or you can order via the LOOP app on your smart phone.
Drink Bottles Students are asked to bring water bottles, which they can top up with rainwater at school. We are not permitted to let them use bubblers at the moment.
New Look Canteen Menu The new format of the Canteen Menu will appear later in the newsletter. It is colour coded to indicate eating every day and occasional menu items. This is in line with the Healthy Canteen Policy. A reminder that we cannot warm lunches brought from home under the WH&S guidelines.
School Banking School Banking is currently paused, due to COVID 19, this term.
YONDR Cases Phones are required to be locked in YONDR cases during roll call. Any damage to the cases will incur a fee of $50.
Breakfast Breakfast is one of the most important meals of the day. Please ensure students eat breakfast, stimulating their digestive system and helping them to be alert. Fruit break continues in the morning for all primary classes.
Education Week Education Week will be held in Week 3 of next term from August 3rd to 7th. The theme is “Learning Together.” We are unsure what the celebrations will be, until we know the then restrictions.

Year 5/6 This week in Spelling we are focusing on the “i” as in ice cream sound. This can be a tricky vowel sound as there are some interesting ways to make this phoneme.
• “i” as in rice
• “y” as in fly
• “igh” as in night
• “I” as in spider
• “ie” as in pie In Mathematics we are focusing on 2D shapes. We are studying this unit this week to complete a test on Friday.
A big congratulations to the students who I listened to read last week. Many of you have moved up in reading levels which is great to see. I encourage all students to read at home as often as possible.
Year 6 had a meeting last week where we created the Year 6 shirt. Notes will be sent home as soon as possible so we can order them before the holidays. Shirts will be $20 each which has been heavily subsidised by Mendooran Central School.

News Due: 17th June
Book Club Issue 4 is due back by Wednesday, 17th June. You can download the LOOP app on your smart device and order directly from Scholastic. There are amazing books to choose from and prices are very reasonable. Each order placed gives a monetary reward to the school to assist with purchasing books for the Library!
Returning & Borrowing Please remember that library books need to be returned weekly during your child’s library lesson or during lunch. Overdue notices will go home this week to ensure our books are back on the shelves before the school holidays. If there is a book that is damaged or lost, please call the Front Office and ask to speak with Mrs Norris or Sharne.
Premier’s Reading Challenge The Premier’s Reading Challenge is running again this year. Students in K-2 must read 30 books to complete the challenge and Years 3 to 9 need to read 20 books. The challenge will finish on 28th August, 2020. This year, the number of Personal Choice books has been extended to 10 due to the impact of COVID-19. This will allow teachers to tailor the needs of the individual learner to advance the progress of every student.
School Sheep Team Mendooran Central School students are currently preparing sheep for a school Merino challenge. The school team consists of the following students: Emma Adams, Airlie Smith, Rebecca Redding, Bella Swan, Harry Tobin, Nick Sweeney, William Duce and Ben Adams.
Ag Plot Fencing Our Year 9/10 Agriculture and Primary Industries students are currently working on replacing the outside boundary fence of the Agricultural plot with a 1.8 metre exclusion fence. Students are learning many new skills and are enjoying the process.
Write4Fun Last term, Tahlija Williams entered a narrative piece called ‘The Stranger in the Portrait’ into the competition called Write4Fun, Tori Rutter also entered a poem entitled “Dreaming of an Ecstatic Life’. "Write4Fun encourages young student writers and artists with fantastic competitions, by publishing top quality books and conducting interactive, fun workshops across Australia."
Both Tahlija and Tori made it through round one and now have the opportunity to be published in their book. Both girls are also in the running to win prizes if they keeps progressing through the rounds.
