WelcomeOn behalf of the USA Coaching Coalition, welcome to Indianapolis, Indiana, forthe 2012 National Coaching Conference. The National Coaching Conferencebrings coaches, coach educators, organizations and sport scientists together toshare new ideas that can be implemented when attendees return home. Therewill be opportunities to share, collaborate and learn from experts and practition-ers. While you are in Indianapolis, take some time to enjoy the many attractionsand quaint charm the Circle City has to offer!

This year’s conference is hosted by the National Federation of State High SchoolAssociations (NFHS), a member of the USA Coaching Coalition. We know youwill enjoy and benefit from attending this conference.

It is the goal of the conference to “educate, collaborate and influence” by: Bringing together coaches, coach educators, school administrators, and those

who have responsibility for coaches to discuss and, at times debate, the movetoward a more strategic, integrated and aligned system of athlete and coachdevelopment.

Presenting new ideas through oral presentations, panel discussions and interactive workshops.

Recognizing the value of coaches as teachers who use the sport experience to impart, not only the skills and tactics of the sport, but life lessons that willbenefit the participant throughout their lives.

Page 3: National Coaching Conference Program Layout 1

In 2011, the conference provided an opportu-nity to come together to present and discussthe merits, methods and obstacles of movingtoward a national system of coach education. This year’s theme is “Sports – Take Part. GetSet for Life.” Athletics should provide to allwho participate the opportunity to learn im-portant lessons in life such as being responsible, demonstrating integrity, showing character andbeing a good citizen – to mention a few. Learn-ing skills, tactics and life lessons does not hap-pen automatically. A coach must intentionallyplan, teach and model for these outcomes tooccur.

“Sports – Take Part. Get Set for Life” is theUSA Coaching Coalition’s opportunity to bringthe best leaders in sport together to begin thedialogue on changing the paradigm of the waysport is viewed and coached in the UnitedStates.
