Océ Nash Printingcase study
Nash Printing, Inc.
Nash Printing, Inc. leverages Océ VarioPrint 6000 technology to expand service offerings for two Sir Speedy franchisesWhen local businesses and non-profit organizations on Long Island, New York need business
documents produced quickly and with excellent quality, they turn to one of two Sir Speedy®
franchises owned by Nash Printing, Inc., a forward-thinking print operation with more than
five years of experience in the Long Island area.
With one shop in Huntington and another
location in Plainview, Long Island, Nash
Printing has successfully navigated the
transition from a traditional quick print
provider to an advanced print services
provider offering expanded capabilities.
Nash Printing’s Sir Speedy franchises are
independently owned and operated print
shops that specialize in one- or two-day
turnaround jobs for a diverse client list.
The growing print provider’s work runs the
gamut from booklets, manuals, personalized
direct mail, NCR forms and church bulletins
to graphic design, large-format printing,
on-demand color, mailing services and full
bindery services. In a highly competitive
market, Nash Printing differentiates itself
by combining the services of a full-service
commercial printer with the convenience
and efficiency of a quick printer. Nash
Printing adds further value with individual
attention, versatile ordering, management
and distribution of business documents,
guaranteed on-time completion and
advanced printing technology. It is this last
differentiator that inspired Nash to invest
in an Océ VarioPrint® 6250 digital duplex
cutsheet printer.
The challenge: keeping pace with growing black & white duplex volumes Until recently, the larger shop in Plainview
Long Island specialized in producing large
volumes of variable data digital color
work. However, owner and president,
Hussain Baqueri, wanted to diversify
and capitalize on the opportunities in
black & white duplex documents. He
worked on developing and marketing his
high-speed black & white print volumes
and as the volumes grew, Baqueri decided
to move up to the latest black & white
digital duplex technology.
“I wanted to increase revenues, grow our
black & white duplex volumes and move up
to a faster, more powerful machine,” said
Baqueri who already had two Océ VarioPrint
2110 mid-production printers. He added,
“We love the Océ VarioPrint 2110 systems,
but we had an opportunity to get a large
weekly church bulletin job that were being
printed on offset machines and I wanted
to move the job to a digital duplex system
that would give us faster turnaround, with
more efficiency and less cost.”
The solution: the Océ VarioPrint 6250 digital duplex printing systemThe solution to the print shop’s challenge
was the award-winning Océ VarioPrint
6250 digital duplex cutsheet printing
system. Nash Printing looked at another
competitive product, but liked the Océ
VarioPrint 6250 system’s speed, quality and
duplexing capabilities and was pleased with
the Océ technology and service they already
had in place.
In October 2007, Nash installed one Océ
VarioPrint 6250 digital duplex cutsheet
printer to support its growing black &
white duplex business. The installation was
smooth and easy and the print shop was
up and running with the new technology
almost immediately.
“We were impressed with the speed of the
VarioPrint 6250, its ease of use, reliability,
capacity and quality,” Baqueri recalls. At
250 letter sized prints per minute, the
Océ VarioPrint 6250 is up to 70 percent
more productive than any other cutsheet
printer in its class. Powered by exclusive
Océ Gemini Instant Duplex technology, the
Océ VarioPrint 6250 systems presses images
into both sides of the page in a single pass,
resulting in higher productivity, offset-class
quality, near-perfect registration and greater
operational efficiency than comparable
machines that must run the page through
the print engine twice to image both sides of
the page.
The document operation todayToday, Nash Printing produces upwards of
600,000 black & white images per month
on the two Océ machines, running five
days a week and Saturday by appointment
only. The Océ VarioPrint 6250 system
handles about 60 percent of the black &
white workload, adding a welcome digital
dimension to the shop’s fleet of equipment,
including a two-color offset press, a fleet
of digital color sheet-fed devices, an Océ
VarioPrint 2110 system, a pair of wide-
format printers for banners and posters and
a standard booklet maker.
“Our black & white duplex volumes
continue to grow,” states Baqueri, “and I’d
say that about half of our jobs are duplex.
We anticipate plenty of growth in that area
with the VarioPrint 6250, especially for
11 x 17 duplex jobs, brochures and double-
sided NCR forms for a large healthcare
provider. We also expect to be able to take
on a lot of web-based printing for large
multinational companies with offices all over
the country.”
Accelerated turnaround and continuous growthWith the Océ solution in place, Nash
Printing, Inc. is already realizing significant
business benefits thanks to accelerated setup
time and faster turnaround. What Baqueri
likes best is the fact that the Océ VarioPrint
6250 system allows him to bid for jobs he
couldn’t take on before and accept more and
different kinds of work.
“We’ve been able to bid on jobs we couldn’t
go after before,” Baqueri continues, “so
the Océ VarioPrint 6250 system gives us a
better opportunity to go out and grow the
business. We’re seeing new opportunities
with a lot of financial services providers
that need prospectus and proxy statements
printed in duplex. We’re also able to bid
on new work from large, multinational
companies, healthcare providers and school
districts.”

Baqueri concludes, “We’re very pleased with
our decision to purchase the Océ VarioPrint
6250 system. The quality is good, the speed
is good and anytime I need service or have
an issue, the Océ service people are right
there. Océ stands behind what they sell
with an excellent sales and support team.
The Océ VarioPrint 6250 system is a great
machine and we’re very happy with it and
Océ overall.”
