                  Aladdin and the Magic Lamp

Once upon a time, there lived a handsome boy in Baghdad. The name was Aladdin. He was a clever boy, but he did not like to work.

One day Aladin’s mother sent him to the market place to look for a job. In the market he met a magician. The magician asked him to work together with him. If Aladdin could do, he would get a lot of gold coins and jewellery. The magician asked Aladdin to go inside the cave and find a magical lamp there. He also gave a ring and said, “If you are in any trouble, rub this ring and a genie will come to your rescue!”

Aladdin went into the cave. Inside the cave, Aladdin was surprised by what he saw. Every corner was full of gold and treasures. A few minutes later, he found the lamp and quickly returned to the entrance of the cave. Aladdin called out, “Magician, I have found the lamp.” “Excellent,” answered the magician. “Quick, pass it to me!”

Aladdin did not trust the magician so he said, “Not so fast Magician. You must help me out of this cave first.”

The magician became very angry. When Aladdin was walking to the entrance, the magician pushed a huge rock over the entrance of the cave and left Aladdin and the lamp behind. Aladdin tried to move the rock all by himself, but it was too big and heavy, “Oh no! I am trapped in the cave!” he cried.

Suddenly, he remembered the magic ring. He rubbed it with the palm of his hand. To his surprise, a genie appeared before him and in a powerful voice said, “Master, I am the Genie of the ring. How can I help you?”

Aladdin was frightened, but he soon found the courage to ask, “Could you please send me back to my house?” In no time at all Aladdin was back home.

Aladdin took out the lamp. He wondered what would happen if he rubbed it. As Aladdin was rubbing it, all of a sudden another enormous genie stood before him. The genie of the lamp said, “Master, your wish is my command.” Aladdin was very excited and wished for an enormous palace and bags full of gold.

One day, a beautiful princess was passing by Aladdin’s palace. She stopped to talk to Aladdin and soon they became good friends. Before long, Aladdin and Jasmine fell in love each other. She married Aladdin and lived happily.

Story of Rabbit and Bear

Once upon a time, there lived as neighbours, a bear and a rabbit. The rabbit is a good shot. In contrary, the bear is always clumsy ad could not use the arrow to good advantage.One day, the bear called over the rabbit and asked the rabbit to take his bow and arrows and came with bear to the other side of the hill. The rabbit was fearing to arouse the bear's anger so he could not refuse it. He consented and went with the bear and shot enough buffalo to satisfy the hungry family. Indeed he shot and killed so many that there was lots of meat left after the bear and his family had loaded themselves and packed all they could carry home.The bear was very gluttonous and did not want the rabbit to get any of the meat. Th e rabbit could not even taste the blood from the butchering as the bear would throw earth on the blood and dry it up. The poor rabbit would have to go home hungry after his hard day's work.The bear was the father of five children. The youngest child was very kind to the rabbit. He was very hearty eater. The mother bear always gave him an extra large piece of meat but the youngest child did not eat it. He would take it outside with him and pretended to play ball with the meat. He kicked toward the rabbit's house and when he got close to the door he would give the meat with such a great kick. The meat would fly into the rabbit's house. In this way, the poor rabbit would get his meal unknown to the papa bear.

One day while a mousedeer was walking in the forest, he saw a big black snake sleeping under the tree. When he saw the snake, the mousedeer was frightened. When he wanted to run away from the snake, he suddenly fell on top of a tiger which was sleeping not far from the snake. The tiger woke up and took of the mousedeer. He told the mousedeer that he was going to eat him for lunch. “Please don’t eat me now,” said the mousedeer. “I have something important to do.”

“Look,” said the mousedeer. “That is the king’s belt. He asked me to stay here and watch it while he was away in the forest.” The tiger looked at the snake and said, “That is a beautiful belt. I need a belt like that. Can I wear it?” He asked the mousedeer.

“Oh all right,” said the mousedeer. So he picked up the snake and winded it around the tiger. Then the snake woke up and saw the tiger. The snake twisted itself tighter until the tiger couldn’t breathe. The tiger asked the mousedeer to help him. But the mousedeer turned and ran away into the forest.

 Jack and the Beanstalk

Once upon a time there lived a poor widow and her son Jack. One day, Jack’s

mother told him to sell their only cow. Jack went to the market and on the way he

met a man who wanted to buy his cow. Jack asked, “What will you give me in return

for my cow?” The man answered, “I will give you five magic beans!” Jack took the

magic beans and gave the man the cow. But when he reached home, Jack’s mother

was very angry. She said, “You fool! He took away your cow and gave you some

beans!” She threw the beans out of the window. Jack was very sad and went to

sleep without dinner.

The next day, when Jack woke up in the morning and looked out of the

window, he saw that a huge beanstalk had grown from his magic beans! He climbed

up the beanstalk and reached a kingdom in the sky. There lived a giant and his wife.

Jack went inside the house and found the giant’s wife in the kitchen. Jack said,

“Could you please give me something to eat? I am so hungry!” The kind wife gave

him bread and some milk.

While he was eating, the giant came home. The giant was very big and

looked very fearsome. Jack was terrified and went and hid inside. The giant cried,

“Fee-fifo-fum, I smell the blood of an Englishman. Be he alive, or be he dead, I’ll

grind his bones to make my bread!” The wife said, “There is no boy in here!” So, the

giant ate his food and then went to his room. He took out his sacks of gold coins,

counted them and kept them aside. Then he went to sleep. In the night, Jack crept

out of his hiding place, took one sack of gold coins and climbed down the beanstalk.

At home, he gave the coins to his mother. His mother was very happy and they

lived well for sometime.

Climbed the beanstalk and went to the giant’s house again. Once again, Jack

asked the giant’s wife for food, but while he was eating the giant returned. Jack

leapt up in fright and went and hid under the bed. The giant cried, “Fee-fifo-fum, I

smell the blood of an Englishman. Be he alive, or be he dead, I’ll grind his bones to

make my bread!” The wife said, “There is no boy in here!” The giant ate his food

and went to his room. There, he took out a hen. He shouted, “Lay!” and the hen laid

a golden egg. When the giant fell asleep, Jack took the hen and climbed down the

beanstalk. Jack’s mother was very happy with him.

After some days, Jack once again climbed the beanstalk and went to the

giant’s castle. For the third time, Jack met the giant’s wife and asked for some food.

Once again, the giant’s wife gave him bread and milk. But while Jack was eating,

the giant came home. “Fee-fi-fo-fum, I smell the blood of an Englishman. Be he

alive, or be he dead, I’ll grind his bones to make my bread!” cried the giant. “Don’t

be silly! There is no boy in here!” said his wife.

The giant had a magical harp that could play beautiful songs. While the giant

slept, Jack took the harp and was about to leave. Suddenly, the magic harp cried,

“Help master! A boy is stealing me!” The giant woke up and saw Jack with the harp.

Furious, he ran after Jack. But Jack was too fast for him. He ran down the beanstalk

and reached home. The giant followed him down. Jack quickly ran inside his house

and fetched an axe. He began to chop the beanstalk. The giant fell and died.

Jack and his mother were now very rich and they lived happily ever after.

Narrative TextMy Neighbour 

David had been waiting for his mother in front of the school. His mother usually fetched him from school but today she was not there. David waited for 15 minutes before he walked home by himself.

When he reached home, he knocked on the door as he did not bring the keys. Surprisingly, no one answered the door. David knocked again but still no one answered the door. Just as he was about to go to the nearby coffee shop where his father worked to get the keys, he heard the friendly voice of his neighbour, John.

David told him that no one was home and John's mother suggested that David stayed in their house till his mother came back. David and John played happily till evening when David's mother came back.

David thanked John and his family before he went back into his house. David's mother explained to David that she had a backache and she had to see a doctor. From this experience, David learnt an important lesson, "Neighbours are people who help each other."
