NOTEWORTHY In addition to the league’s player of the week selections, several conference players had notable performances, and they include:

Fabian Beccera (LUC) - Becerra put Loyola on the board early in its victory over Evansville on Wednesday, 1-0. The sophomore tallied his first collegiate game-winner in the third minute after catching a rebound off Aidan Megally’s shot. Becerra also helped lead Loyola’s offensive efforts against Missouri State this week, recording two shots and one shot on goal.

Ryan Madondo (VALPO) - Ryan Madondo scored goals in both Valpo games this week including the match-winner in a 1-0 road victory over Evansville on Sunday. His tally in the 81st minute boosted his season goal total to four, making him the second Valpo player to reach that mark this year and moving him into a tie for the team lead. The East Tennessee State trans-fer also found the back of the net on Wednesday in Valpo’s near upset of No. 9 Missouri State, the only unbeaten and untied team in the nation. His goal came in the 50th minute to put Valpo up 2-0 in a game the Bears would eventually roar from behind to win 3-2 in overtime.

Bears Win Title OutrightThe Bears clinched sole possession of the Missouri Valley Conference regular season championship, earning the eighth overall regular season title in program history.

Last Team StandingMissouri State extended its winning streak to 15 games with Sunday’s win over Loyola. The Bears have opened their season with 15 straight wins for the first time in program history. The winning streak ranks first nationally and sets a new program record.

Missouri State is the first MVC program to start a season 15-0-0 since SMU started the 2001 season 21-0-0 before suffer-ing its only loss in the NCAA Tournament Quarterfinals to St. John’s. The Bears are the only team still sitting perfect in all of NCAA Division I. Missouri State’s 15-0 start is the best start in NCAA history since the 2009 Akron team opened its season by going 23-0 (lost in national championship to Virginia) and is the longest in-season streak since the 2016 Maryland team won 15 consecutive games (No. 1 seed in NCAA Tourney).

Historical Win StreaksMissouri State moved to 9-0-0 in Valley play, becoming just the second team in league his-tory to go 9-0-0 in league play (SMU in 2001). The streak is tied for the third longest league win streak in Valley history. A win Saturday at Drake would put the Bears into sole posses-sion for the longest streak in league history and become the first team to go 10-0-0 in a season.

Missouri State’s 15 match win streak is also moving up the Valley historical charts.

High Scoring BearsMissouri State has already scored 36 goals on the season, marking their best season output this decade, surpassing 26 goals in 2018 and 2011. The Bears have only led The Valley in scoring twice in league history, netting 59 goals in 1995 and 49 goals in 1999 (MVC Champs with 17-1-3 record). The 36 goals are the most in The Valley since Bradley netted 37 during the 2013 NCAA season.

Scoring StreakMatthew Bentley of Missouri State ex-tended his scoring streak to seven-straight matches with two goals, including the game-winner, at Valpo Wednesday and a goal vs. Loyola on Sunday. Bentley has scored 10 goals during the seven-match streak, with three multi-goal performances (most in MVC). All 12 of his goals this season have come in Valley play.

Road Winning StreakMissouri State is sitting on an eight match road win streak entering Saturday’s match at Drake. The streak is the second longest nationally behind St. Mary’s (CA) who has won 9-straight on the road.

Elite on Both EndsThe Bears rank 7th nationally with a GAA of .586 (9 goals allowed) and rank 9th in goals per game (2.40). Missouri State is the only team in the nation to rank Top 10 nationally in both categories.

NCAA Committee RankingsWith two weeks remaining before selec-tion Monday, the NCAA Division I Men’s Soccer Committee announced its top 16 ranking on Friday, November 1. The top 16 correspond to the number of teams that are seeded in the 48-team NCAA Division I Men’s Soccer Championship bracket. Missouri State appeared at No. 12 in the initial ranking.

PollingMissouri State continues to appear in the national rankings this week, sitting in the top 10 at No. 10 in the latest United Soccer Coaches Top 25 poll, No. 13 in the TopDraw-erSoccer.com Top 25 and No. 12 in the Col-lege Soccer News Top 30 poll.

Loyola is receiving votes in the TopDrawer-Soccer.com and College Soccer News polls this week.

They are the fourth team in program history to receive a top-10 ranking in the national poll, joining the 1999, 2000, and 2005 teams.

MSU’s highest ranking came in the 2000 season with a No. 3 spot in the Sept. 11 poll.

MVC in Regional RankingsThe MVC has three teams ranked in the lat-est United Soccer Coaches West Regional rankings released on Tuesday (Nov. 5). Mis-souri State remained in the top spot in the region and sits No. 1, while Loyola (5th) and Drake (9th) also appear in the poll.

LOYOLA (9-4-3, 4-2-3 MVC)One to GoThe Ramblers conclude the regular season with a match at Valparaiso on Saturday. With a win over Valpo, Loyola can secure the second seed in the MVC Tournament and earn an opening round bye.

We’re All in this TogetherIn the last two matches, five different Ramblers have contributed to Loyola’s scoring efforts. Fabian Becerra and Justin Sukow each found the back of the net, while Aidan Megally, Alex Moskal and Billy Hency were all credited with assists.

Fourth LossUntil falling to Missouri State on Sunday, Loyola hadn’t lost a match since Sept. 22, which was also against the Bears. The Ramblers last eight matches have resulted in a win or a tie. The last time Loyola limited their season to four losses was in 2016, a team that finished 14-4-1. If Loyola concludes their season with five losses, it could be one of the better seasons in program history following five losses in 2007 and four losses in 2015 and 2016.

#10 MISSOURI STATE (15-0, 9-0 MVC)Streak ContinuesMissouri State’s 15-0 start is the best start in NCAA history since the 2009 Akron team opened its season by going 23-0. The 15-game winning streak matches a Navy wrap-around streak from this season (Oct. 20, 2018-Oct. 6, 2019) and is the longest in-season streak since the 2016 Maryland team won 15 consecutive games.

15-Win MarkThe 15 wins in 2019 is the highest season total since the 1999 team went 17-1-2. For just the second time in program history, the Bears have posted 15 or more wins in a season (1999). Date Opponent Location Network TimeA29 Kansas City Cancelled 0-0

VALPARAISO (4-11-1, 3-6 MVC)Success vs. the BestValpo came within five minutes of adding to the program’s history of beating Top 25 opponents on Wednesday against No. 9 Missouri State, the only un-defeated and untied team in the nation. Valpo held a 2-0 lead as late as the 72nd minute, but eventually fell 3-2 in overtime despite becoming the first team to score two goals in a match against a sound Bears’ defense this season. Valpo was in front for 42 minutes, the second-longest any team has led against Missouri State this year behind Tulsa back on Sept. 14. Valpo has five wins and one draw against Top 25 sides since the start of the 2013 campaign.

Blanking the AcesValpo enjoyed its first shutout win of the season in Sunday’s regular sea-son road finale, beating Evansville 1-0. Goalkeeper Jorn-Jan van de Beld made three saves to earn the shutout in just his fourth appearance in a Valpo kit and first in Valley play. Ryan Madondo scored the game-winning goal to help the Brown & Gold sweep the regular season series with their southern instate foes.

Glancing AheadEntering Saturday’s Senior Night game vs. Loyola at Brown Field, Valpo is locked into the No. 5 seed for next week’s Missouri Valley Conference Tournament in Chicago. However, Valpo’s opponent in the opening round of the tournament is yet to be determined. The team could play Loyola, Bradley or Drake. If the tournament started today, Valpo would face Drake in the opening round for the third straight season.
