Problem Statement The System level BOM of the Urbanna server product was ready in time to align with the new CPU silicon launch but the motherboard would not be production ready if we shipped by ocean. The cost of shipping the entire product by air vs. ocean would add over $100 of cost per unit. Proposed Solution If we shipped just the motherboard by air and the system by ocean, there would only be a $10 dollar added cost per unit. I gave this this presentation to Management showing how we could still be ready at launch and save $90/unit. 1K units needed to be available worldwide at launch so we were able to save $90K in shipping charges as a result of this proposal.
