Page 3: Multiple Intelligence

Today we will…

• Explain briefly the 8 different types of intelligences based on the theory of Howard Gardner.

• Show a few technology tools that your child can use to tap into their strengths.

Page 4: Multiple Intelligence

What is Multiple Intelligence?

It is….

• All intelligences are cognitive abilities.

• High intellectual potential in bodily-kinesthetic sphere

• A way to empower learning

It’s not…

• A way to quantify any of the 8 kinds of intelligences.

• May choose to be artist (i.e. not necessarily dancer.)

• It’s not about to find out what they (children) have or lack, rather

Page 5: Multiple Intelligence

Verbal -Linguistic

Page 6: Multiple Intelligence

Strengths

• Understand words and language very well

• well developed

vocabularies

• Can learn the complex rules of language quickly

• Use language to remember and think

• Can express themselves very well in both oral and written forms

• Hearing stories - Oral or even on tape/CD

• Debating and discussing various issues

• Writing poems, short stories

• Playing word games- Scrabble

• Public speaking about issues

• Reading aloud.

They learn about…

Gravity with the story of an apple falling on Newton.

Geography “hello” “good bye” in several languages

History describing the changes in clothing since the early 20th century.

They love…

• Play with colors

• Touch and feel things

• Take things apart to see what they look like inside

• Seeing models of how things work

• Creating objects with their own hands

• Going to museums to see exhibits

Learning about… • Geography by building a model of a mountain using

cardboard, paper, different colors, clay etc., complete with rocks, trees and vegetation.

• "Paint a picture“, Imagine the environment or the objects as they read or learn about them.

Visual-Spatial Technology Tools

• Popplet is a very easy to use tool that allows students create a wall of multimedia stick notes that they can share with. Students can insert pictures, videos, text and be creative with colors, styles and ideas.

• Photo sharing • comics, puzzles, • draw programs, paint

programs, • timeline, 3D software, • map making, • scrapbooking, • match pictures to vocabulary,

board games, • digital Camera, • Concept Mapping.

• Tend to move around as part of their learning process (may not be able to sit still).

They love…

• Science experiments/Gardening.

• Participating in dramas/Dancing.

• Physical activities like climbing, rolling, jumping, crawling.

• Outdoor activities like climbing a hill, hikes, walks .

• Activities where they move about in a large physical space.

They learn by… • Role play – i.e. science concepts - From

caterpillar to cocoon to butterfly. • Using hands to measure (length, width,

area, volumes).
