Funding opportunitiesStretch your arts dollars! Ask about available opportunities. • MSAC Arts-In-Education AiE Visiting Performer funding is

available to cover up to 1/3 of the program cost for any Maryland school working with a designated AiE artist. Schools may use this funding three times in a school year. Ask early for these limited funds.

• State and county arts councils have grants available throughout the year. Maryland schools may apply for MSAC Artist-in-Residence AiR grants and Virginia schools may apply for VCA Presenter Touring Assistance grants. Our staff can recommend funding sources and qualifying artists and help you apply.

Infectious original songs tell of the wonders of the natural world—from arthropods and alligators to photosynthesis and plate tectonics. Performances—including the new Weather, Climate, Let’s Define It—feature interactive music and movement, while workshops and residencies combine songwriting with topics in science and ecology.

This acclaimed company makes dance enjoyable, educational, and accessible for all. Imaginative per-formances—customizable with new options—com-pare and contrast classical and contemporary styles of music and dance. Russia’s rich cultural traditions are represented by this ensemble of classically trained, multi-talented artists. Traditional instruments, athletic dances, vivid costumes, and lighthearted humor provide an enjoyable and authentic introduction to Russian heritage.


The Lopez brothers from Ecuador share the vibrant, joyous music of the Andes Mountains, performing on dozens of traditional, hand-crafted instruments. Ethereal panpipes and irresistible rhythms join the sounds of the Amazon Rainforest, complete with chirping frogs, calling birds, and the sounds of rain and thunder.


Journey to West Africa with Kofi and Kwame and experience an exhilarating and unforgettable performance of traditional music, storytelling, games, and dance. Hands-on workshops teach drumming and dance skills while encouraging creativity and cooperation.

Carien’s arts-integrated mural residency instructs participants in the fine art of tile and metal mosaics and results in the construction of a collaborative mural, based on student design. Each mural is customized to fit a theme or unit of study and may be installed in an indoor or outdoor space.

Join Egyptian-American musician and dancer Karim Nagi for an engaging, witty performance spotlight-ing Arabic music, dance, and culture. Rooted in the soil of their native Quebec, ‘power trio’ Genticorum incorporates the dynamism of traditional North American and European folk (including Cajun and Celtic influences) into their vibrant music. Founder Lesole Maine and his dancers blend South African roots with a modern approach for engaging programs combining dance, history, and culture. Performances, workshops, and residencies introduce dynamic Zulu, Gumboot, and street dances while exploring the culture and history of South Africa.


Taiko—often described as “full-body drumming”—is a dynamic art form based on traditional Japanese drumming. Mark H uses traditional and contemporary songs and rhythms to showcase the instruments, the use of one’s voice in taiko, key Japanese history and language, and the principles of respect, energy, and connection at the heart of playing these big drums.

Smithsonian Associates Discovery Theater on Tour

With inventive arrangements, skillful vocal percus-sion, and lots of humor, this ensemble’s A Capella Musical History tour is a memorable adventure.
