5 DAYS FOR THE HOMELESS is an annual, week long campaign put on my business schools across the country to raise awareness for homelessness. There are events hosted all week to raise money for a charity of the schools choice and for the second year in a row, UBCO has chosen H.O.P.E.! In addition to fundraising events, there will be five brave students who will have

giving up many of the luxuries of their everyday life (including showers, cellphones etc.) and sleeping outside all five

nights! This to demonstrate to students the hardships of living on the streets physically, mentally, and emotionally as well as to raise awareness for homelessness in our

community. These volunteers will be activity engaging with students and collecting donations all week in support of the cause.

What is h.o.p.e.? Hope Outreach and Safehouse is a night-time outreach to homeless and exploited women, as well as a safe house for exploited and abused women and women in recovery. H.O.P.E. stands for Helping Out People Exploited and was started in 2008 by two incredible women who wanted to be the voice for those vulnerable women who do not have one. H.O.P.E. operates in the small town of Kelowna, B.C. and is 100% donation funded. They have a wide variety of volunteers ranging from students to business professionals to experiential recovered women. If you would like to volunteer for the events please contact Kelly Taverner (Director of 5 Days for the Homeless) at [email protected]

On March 27th 2015 at 6pm, come experience ‘The Next Generation’ with Festfeed, a student led startup consisting of five UBCO students. The group will be debuting their ‘mobile first’ application in the Fipke Auditorium at the University of British Columbia Okanagan. Festfeed is a social network for events built from the ground up. After receiving enthusiastic support from the local business community in the Okanagan, the mentors and staff of Accelerate Okanagan, and extraordinary encouragement from the faculty and students of the University of British Columbia Okanagan, the team is looking to bring together these groups in an evening full of energy and excitement.
