The MDHS Art Department has been doing very well! We have continued on our path of entering in to shows and contests. One of our largest contests of the year is the Atlantic Institute Contest. This contest is opened to middle and high school students in Central Florida. We have been entering in this show for four years now. This year, we have three students who have made it into the top ten and one of the three made it into the top three. The winners of this contest, plus their teacher, won a trip to Germany, the Netherlands and Belgium for 10 days. The students will be fundraising and looking for sponsors to help pay for the airfare and entry fee; the rest of the trip is covered by the organization. Each round trip flight is about $1,600. This is a once in a lifetime educational trip. I was fortunate enough to have a winner in the top three two years ago, and we visited Turkey. This trip was fantastic; we got to see a university, an elementary school, incredible sites, museums, and met great people. We traveled with other teachers and students from Florida and a tour guide from the area who was part of the organization. It is very well organized and they keep in mind all the needs of the family, students and (number one) safety! We are looking for donations and sponsorship to help these great students explore Germany, Netherlands, and Belgium this summer. If you would like to help, please contact me, Ms. Goldstein (art teacher) at [email protected] or call at 352-383-2177.

Poster & Essay Winners The Poster and Essay winners have been selected for the No Duck Left Behind Rubber Ducky Race and Carnival. Congratulations goes to Mount Dora High School student Megan St. John and her art teacher, Ms. Caryn Goldstein. As an added bonus, each received $50.

Drama Club Congratulations to Ms. Cicely Bosley and the Drama Club on their recent performance of School House Rock Live! They had four very successful shows and did an outstanding job. You guys rock!
