The campaign‟s chairperson, Dan Steen, noted that, “Our campaign is thrilled by this news and is looking forward to the vigorous campaign that lies ahead. Northern Virginia’s Women Come Together To Support Jim Moran

Alexandria, VA—On April 7, more than 100 women activists and Democratic elected officials from Northern Virginia gathered in Arlington to demonstrate their strong support for Congressman Jim Moran. This impressive turn out is the latest indication of the stalwart support that Moran has with this key demographic group throughout Virginia‟s 8th Con-gressional District.

The breakfast reception, at the Army Navy Country Club in Arlington, featured Mrs. Victo-ria Reggie Kennedy as its headline speaker. Mrs. Ken-nedy, the wife of late United States Senator Edward M. Ken-nedy (D-Mass.), praised Moran for his long standing support of women‟s issues and for his courage to stand by President Barack Obama and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi in support of the healthcare overhaul reform bill:

Congressman Moran‟s political career began in 1979 when he was elected to the Alexandria City Council. Jim became the Vice-Mayor three years later and served in that capacity until 1985, when he was elected Mayor. His first run for Congress was successful, joining the House of Representatives in 1990. Jim Moran is a graduate of Holy Cross, where he majored in eco-nomics. He went on to earn his ma st er s de gr ee i n P ub l ic Administration from the University of Pittsburgh in 1970. Before run-ning for public office he worked at the Department of Health, Educa-tion and the Workforce (HEW) and also served as a committee staffer for the Senate Appropriations Com-mittee. The Congressman is married to LuAnn Bennett. He has four chil-dren, three stepchildren, and four grandchildren.

Jim Moran represents Northern Virginia's 8th District – including Arlington, Alexandria, Falls Church and Reston -- in the United States House of Representatives. A mem-ber of the important House Appro-priations Committee, he is Chair of the Interior, and serves on both the Defense and Foreign Operations Subcommittees. He co-chairs the Congressional Prevention Caucus, leads the Task Force on Sovereign Wealth Funds, and was a co-founder of the New Democratic Coalition. An outspoken advocate against the misguided mission in Iraq, Jim voted against the war from the be-ginning, even co-authoring the De-mocratic alternative that would have prevented it. With over thirty years experience as a public servant and community activist, Jim Moran has never stopped working for Northern Virginia.
