Saint MacCullin’s Parish Lusk.
The Mission of St. MacCullin's Parish is to serve our community through communicating the love of Christ.
From the Pastor’s Desk; 13th November, 33nd Sunday in Ordinary Time
Welcome everyone. This Sunday there is a
stark message for all. In the Gospel, some
of Jesus disciples are admiring the Temple
of Jerusalem in the company of Jesus and
He tells them that there will be a day when
the Temple will be destroyed with not a
stone left on top of another. It must have
sounded like total madness to His hearers.
The Temple was a magnificent edifice. It
was impossible to imagine it destroyed.
But that is exactly what happened within 40 years of Jesus death and resurrection.
Needless to say, the disciples are eager to know when this Day of the Lord will come. Jesus
tells them there will be signs and they are countries at war, devastating earthquakes and
great sicknesses tormenting the world. It is easy to believe that we are living through these
times now, but Jesus tells us that the end will not be so soon. We will have time to witness
to our faith despite a time of persecution. We pray that the plan of the Lord for our salvation
will come to pass and that we will be found waiting and ready.
The Parish Sale of Work
The parish sale of work takes place next Sunday and I am really looking
forward to it. A huge amount of work has gone into it and
parishioners have told me it is a great day for the whole
community. I do hope you will be able to join us in Lusk
National School hall for the Sale of Work from 2pm- 5pm.
It is a great way to support your parish.
Fr. Eoin.

Lives of the Saints St. Lorcan 0'Toole was born in Castledermot, Co Kildare, in 1123. He studied at Glendalough, became a monk there & its abbot in 1148. In 1162 he was chosen as the first native Archbishop of Dublin. He followed the reforming methods of Ceallach & Malachy, introducing clergy who are on the staff of the cathedral to minister in the Cathedral, upholding the rights of the Church, and caring for the people. He attended the Third Lateran Council in 1179, returning as Papal Legate, he held synods to extend reform. He worked for peace and reconciliation and died on a mission of mediation with King Henry II and the Irish rulers at Eu in Normandy in 1180. St. Albert the Great, 1206 - 1280, the Dominican theologian, who taught in Cologne, was called the 'Universal Doctor' for the vast range of his interests. Patron of scientists. St. Margaret of Scotland, 1045 - 1093, wife of Malcolm III, King of Scotland, helped by her example and influence the work of reform in the Church. St. Elizabeth of Hungary, 1207 - 1231, queen at fourteen, widowed and exiled at twenty, Franciscan Tertiary until her death at twenty-four. A woman of prayer and service to the poor. Dedication of the Basilicas of Saints Peter and Paul. This feast helps us move beyond our narrow geographical confines to a sense of the universal Church, its origins and its missionary calling. Each of the four major basilicas in Rome has a feast of their dedication in the Liturgical Calendar, highlighting the link between Rome & the universal Church; St Mary Majors (5th Aug); St John Laterans (9th Nov); St Peter's - the Vatican and St Paul's- outside-the-walls (18th Nov) St. Hugh of Lincoln, 1140 - 1200. Born in Burgundy, France, He spent the first 40 years of his life in France & the final 20 as an abbot & later bishop of Lincoln, England. Hugh became an Augustinian monk, joined the Carthusians, after visiting the monastery of La Grande Chartreuse, east of Grenoble. Hugh's concern for justice extended beyond his dealings with 3 kings - Henry II, Richard I & Richard's heir, his younger brother, John, - to the defence of Jewish communities during the outbreak of anti-Semitism during the Third Crusade. He re-built and extended the Cathedral of Lincoln after it was badly damaged by an earthquake in 1185. He died in 1200, after falling ill on a visit to the tomb of St Thomas Becket in Canterbury. Hugh was buried in Lincoln Cathedral, where his shrine became a place of pilgrimage until the Reformation.
