AL HUGHES - Blues with feeling. Fife's premiere acoustic blues maestro! Rooted in blues and soul tradition like so many Scottish singers, Al Hughes writes from his own perspective on topics which are very much of today. His influences can be clearly heard, but make no mistake, this music is modern, relevant and gathering praise from a growing number of well respected figures on the British music scene. Comparisons have already been made, by more than one reviewer, between Al and the late Rory Gallagher’s accoustic playing, and also to Chris Smither, Townes Van Zandt and Martin Simpson. His haunting, smoky voice is complimented by a variety of guitars including a huge sounding, custom built 12 string resonator, and his music conjures a variety of moods, from forceful and raucous, to gentle and wistful. Indeed, one reviewer called his slide playing “eerily atmospheric”, another said his voice sounded “as if it had been aged in oak casks.” Kirkcaldy Acoustic Music Club, Polish Ex-servicemen's Club, Bennochy House, Forth Park Drive, Kirkcaldy. Almost Blue Promotions presents ….. CAHALEN MORRISON & ELI WEST: At The Blue Lamp, Aberdeen. 7.30pm. Tickets £10. Cahalen Morrison & Eli West are, simply put, two of the most innovative and subtle roots musicians today. Their music draws from old folk sources, but it sounds vibrantly alive. Cahalen Morrison writes songs that sound like a Cormac McCarthy novel: simple, beautifully crafted, and seemingly formed from raw natural elements. Eli West brings jagged, angular arrangements based in bluegrass and old-time, but refracted through a 21st century lens. Like Ansel Adams’ photography, their music is instantly accessible and built from the simplest materials, but at the same time seems to transcend its base fundamentals. Together, Cahalen and Eli tap the root of the old country and bluegrass duets. As the sparse landscapes of Cahalen’s vocals reflect the warm glow of Eli’s voice, it’s clear that this duo was made to sing together. www.AlmostBluePromotions.com www.cahalenandeli.com 23 MAY

Almost Blue Promotions presents ….. JP HARRIS & THE TOUGH CHOICES: At The Tunnels, Aberdeen, 7.00pm, Tickets £12 / £10adv. In short, J.P. Harris plays Country Music. Not “Americana,” not “Roots,” “Folk,” or any other number of monikers used to describe a slew of spin-off genres; he plays from the foundation of these styles, the music that has influenced four generations of songwriters. In a world where prefixes have been added to the term “Country,” JP simply sticks to the old-

fashioned sounds that have called to him. Referencing influences would be like describing each stitch in a quilt; every scrap of fabric tells a story of how the weathered and comfortable blanket came to be… www.AlmostBluePromotions.com www.ilovehonkytonk.com 30 MAY EDDI READER: At Stewarts Hall, Huntly. www.eddireader.co.uk www.facebook.com/eddireader https://twitter.com/eddireader 20 JUNE

By popular demand, the Skinners have released a live album (Live in Aberdeen 2014), a 15 track 'warts and all' album recorded live at the Blue Lamp in Aberdeen in July 2014. Once in a while, an artist comes along who simply doesn’t follow the rules. Winning National Awards in both Blues and Country, the Red Dirt Skinners are equally at home on a festival stage, or in a folk club too. It’s not that they haven’t decided which genre they are, it’s that they’re pro-actively developing a whole new sound. Without fail, audiences are on their feet at the end of a Red Dirt Skinners show, and all are saying the same thing... 'that’s refreshingly different'. www.AlmostBluePromotions.com www.reddirtskinners.com
