Tiree Music Festival has announced that entries for TMF Unsigned, backed by the voice of new music in Scotland, Jim Gellatly, are now open. The competition sees Scottish unsigned bands and musicians battle it out to play the main stage of the award winning festival, which takes place on 18-20 July. Acts have up until the 10 March to enter TMF Unsigned by emailing a track, video or link to unsigned@tireemusicfestival.co.uk Heading for a rapid sell-out following the announcement of Julie Fowlis as the first confirmed act to play (with only 200 tickets left as this edition was published). for the second year to compere TMF Unsigned – no one knows unsigned talent like Jim and I’m looking forward to listening to all the entries. The demand for tickets has been phenomenal, festival goers are increasingly combining the festival with a few extra days on Tiree - enjoying the Island walks, water-sports and white sandy beaches. The TMF campsites and campervan site will be open from the Wednesday to Wednesday (16-23 July) to cater for all those making a holiday out of TMF and we will also have a series of Fringe events outside of the main festival days to accompany this. 2013 was phenomenal for TMF with the quickest sell-out ever, winning four major festival awards and Mediterranean style weather – we’ve put an order in for the same again for 2014!” Over 1500 bands entered the TMF 2013 Unsigned competition with Jim and the festival organisers then whittling down the entries to the top 5 before it was put to fans via social media to vote. The lucky winning act Amber Road went on to open the main stage at the festival. In a final twist Jim selected his favourite act of the remaining four who also rocked the TMF main stage. Jim Gellatly said: “I’m delighted to have been asked to return to the TMF Unsigned panel. The competition attracts unrivalled talent and I am sure we will

The Edinburgh International Harp Festival has announced a stellar array of performers appearing at the annual gathering that has established Scotland's capital as a world class centre of harping. Harps of all sorts are featured with the Clarsach, our own Scottish Harp, at the heart of the festival and the organisers are proud of their reputation of creating an event which is friendly, encouraging and inclusive. The festival is held at the city's Merchiston Castle School. HOMECOMING In this year of Homecoming, the EIHF will shine a light on Scotland. Concerts will feature some of Scotland’s most travelled harpers. The recent generation: Catriona McKay, Maeve Gilchrist, home from USA, Rachel Newton of The Shee, and The Duplets (Gillian Fleetwood and Fraya Thomsen). A special event, the Hall of the Chieftain, presented by John Purser, will feature some of Scotland’s most established harpers: Alison Kinnaird, Mary Macmaster and Patsy Seddon (aka Sileas) and Bill Taylor, originally from the US but very much at home here. They will perform, along with Allan MacDonald, Christine Primrose and Steve Byrne spellbinding music from the 16th – 18th centuries. Coming from further afield are Siân James from Wales and Andrew Lawrence-King from Guernsey and this year’s special featured guest Edward Witsenburg from Holland as well as Eva Curth from Germany and Clotilde Trouillaud from Brittany. The wider world is represented by Sixto Corbalán from Paraguay and Cheyenne Brown from Alaska with her North Atlantic Trio. DANCE A very special feature for this year is the collaboration between harp and dance. Andrew Lawrence –King and dancer Steven Player will explore and present baroque music and dance

while Maeve Gilchrist will present her collaboration with step dancer Nic Gareiss. Participants will also be able to learn from these masters and join in dance workshops featuring Ceilidh, Breton and Belly dance NEW MUSIC With support from Creative Scotland, and in collaboration with Drake Music Scotland, EIHF has commissioned an exciting and inclusive piece from harpist composer Fiona Rutherford. Cara Dillon Joins Hebcelt Line-Up As 2014 Festival Goes Unplugged

Internationally acclaimed folk singer Cara Dillon is the latest star name to be added to the Hebridean Celtic Festival’s biggest ever line-up this summer. The Irish songstress, a former Radio 2 Folk Singer of the Year, will perform on the festival’s main stage on Friday, 18 July. Cajun four-piece Magnolia Sisters, from the US; alternative folk rock band Dante, from Edinburgh; London based Sean Taylor & Danny Thompson; Paisley singer songwriter Michael Cassidy; Edinburgh country rock act The Wynntown Marshals and Scottish trad outfit The Scott Wood Band and Kinross six-piece Sienna are also amongst the latest acts confirmed to play. They are part of HebCelt’s impressive main arena programme which is announced today (thur), as day tickets go on sale. The 19th HebCelt will be held from 16-19 July in Stornoway in the island of Lewis. In all, more than 30 acts will feature over four days in the festival arena, with further concerts to be announced at An Lanntair arts centre and in rural venues. In another development for the award-winning event, a new acoustic stage is being added for the first time with four intimate slots for artists on both the Friday and Saturday of HebCelt. Festival director Caroline Maclennan said: “We are delighted Cara will be part of this year’s festival. She is an outstanding singer who adds yet more quality to an already outstanding line-up. “The acoustic stage is something new and different for us and is driven by our desire to offer as wide and diverse a programme as possible for our audience. I am sure people will find it an interesting addition.” Former Runrig frontman Donnie Munro headlines Thursday’s programme which also includes Paisley singer/songwriter Michael Cassidy and Rachel Sermanni, originally from Carrbridge. On Friday, Cara Dillon, will join Main Stage headliners Big Country, internationally renowned fiddler Duncan Chisholm, Edinburgh based act The Wynntown Marshals and Glasgow group This Silent Forest. The Islands Stage will welcome Canadian band Gordie MacKeeman and His Rhythm Boys; experimental new five-piece Metta; Mànran frontman Norrie Maciver; The Wynntown Marshals; the Scott Wood Band, whose frontman was a finalist in the BBC Radio Scotland Young Traditional Musician of the Year competition last year and is currently a member of the Red Hot Chilli Pipers; and Ceòl Na Cloinne, a group of musicians and singers from Harris originally brought together by Comhairle nan Eilean Siar’s Community Learning and Development Service. Award-winning folk rock band Levellers top Saturday’s Main Stage bill which also includes Sienna, Galway quartet We Banjo 3 and Lewis music

collective Willie Campbell and the Open Day Rotation. On the Islands Stage, 16-year-old Lewis singer/songwriter Eleanor Nicolson will be joined by Scottish duo Hunter & The Bear; and Edinburgh-born songwriter Ross Wilson (aka Blue Rose Code); and Sean Taylor & Danny Thompson, which sees one of the hottest new names in the UK blues/acoustic scene team up with veteran bassist Danny Thompson, a founder member of folk rock band Pentangle. Singer/songwriters Miss Irenie Rose, from Lewis, and Adam Holmes, from Edinburgh, are the first acts to be confirmed for the acoustic stage. Caroline Maclennan added: “HebCelt is all about giving our audience the chance to see the best traditional and contemporary music in our unique island setting, while also providing a platform for young local musicians to showcase their talents. In addition to all that he will be bringing some of his students from the Berklee College of Music in Boston USA to perform for us. And if that's not enough then Clive Carroll has been commissioned by the festival to compose a piece for four Guitars and this will be premiered at the Ullapool. The piece will be played by Clive, Prof. Allan Neave and two young musicians from The Royal Conservatoire. FESTIVAL CLUB: In the renowned 'Festival Club' The Remi Harris trio will host the Friday and Saturday night and Tristan Seume will host the club on Sunday night. Hugh Burns: As a ‘first-call’ session musician, and accompanist to the likes of George Michael and Gerry Rafferty, Hugh’s work has been heard by millions of people across the globe. He has worked with Paul McCartney, Michael Jackson, Jack Bruce and Robert Palmer, among many others, and with producers like George Martin and Tony Visconti. His playing has also featured in many film and TV soundtracks. From his early tuition in Glasgow, Hugh embarked on a life-long quest to broaden and deepen his musical and technical knowledge, to the extent that he has developed an understanding of the instrument that is perhaps unsurpassed. Riverside Rock is going to be a musical extravaganza

With a shortage of music festivals in the Scottish Borders another new one is to be massively welcomed, and in an impressive riverside setting just outside Jedburgh - and only an hour from Edinburgh down the A68 - Riverside Rock holds lots of promise for establishing a solid future. ABOUT NORDOFF-ROBBINS Nordoff-Robbins provide Music Therapy to help children & adults isolated by disability, trauma or illness. It's mission is to provide access to music therapy services across Scotland, by making a positive impact on the lives of children and adults with a wide range of needs while raising awareness of both the importance & benefits of music therapy and developing music therapy research. Almost 400 adults and children who find themselves isolated from the world attend Music Therapy sessions with Nordoff Robbins Scotland every week. Their 13 qualified therapists take group and individual therapy sessions at four bases in Glasgow,

The annual festival was established in 2004 to celebrate the life and music of Perthshire's fiddle legend. It is envisaged that through time the festival and other activities will gather enough funds to erect a fitting memorial to Niel Gow in Dunkeld & Birnam. Niel Gow (not Neil Gow) was born in Strathbraan on 22nd March 1727 and grew up in the village of Inver, by Dunkeld. www.niel-gow.co.uk Hawick Reivers Festival Hawick 23-25 March As always music is at the heart of Hawick Reivers Festival and Session A9 and Scocha will provide the focus for this.
