MITCHELLS ISLAND PUBLIC SCHOOL
Newsletter—Term 2, Week 4 2019
Canteen: Canteen is open tomorrow. Thanks to Nadine
for operating the canteen this week.
Grip Leadership:
The Grip Leadership Conference is a great experience for
all Yrs 5-6 students. It is a fun day of activities designed to
foster teamwork and leadership skills. Even if your child
has no aspirations of becoming a school leader, they will
still gain a lot from attending this conference. Please see
Mrs Wilson if you have any questions.
Eisteddfod:
The students that will compete in the Eisteddfod have
done a wonderful job of learning their poems. They will
present one each at the assembly on Friday to practise in
front of an audience.
Teddy Bears Hospital:
Yesterday, we had the medical students from the Univer-
sity of Newcastle visit us for the Teddy Bears Hospital.
The students learned about first aid as their teddies were
examined, bandaged and x-rayed.
Soccer Gala Day:
The Small Schools Soccer Gala Day for Yrs 3-6 will be held
on Friday 7th June at the Wingham Sporting Complex.
Students need to be at the grounds by 9am. Our first
game kicks off at 9:20am. Games run for 20 minutes. The
draw is included in this newsletter. We have a supply of
shin pads at school so please see Mrs Wilson or Miss
Sneddon before Friday if you need some. Shirts and socks
will be distributed on the day. Good luck to all of our
players.
MIPS Public Speaking:
A reminder that our public speaking day is Monday
starting at 9:15am. Parents/carers are welcome to come
and watch.
Children’s University:
Permission notes for our whole school excursion to the
Children’s University Taree Campus on the 25th June are
attached to this newsletter. A reminder that students
need to return their passports so that their hours can be
verified by Mrs Wilson.
Book Week:
Book Week will be held in Term 3 on the 19th August.
The theme this year is “My Super Powers”. We are giving
everyone plenty of notice so you can plan your book week
parade costumes. Costumes do not need to be expensive
or elaborate; exploring the Op Shops is a great way to find
ideas.
Y-PEP Child Protection Education Program:
As part of our PDHPE on child protection, the Department
has engaged the YWCA Australia as providers of the Y-PEP
Child Protection Education Program. Our school visit for
Y-PEP is booked for the 5th June. I have attached some
information regarding this. If you have any questions
about this unit of study, please speak to Mrs Wilson.
