THE AFFLICTION OF ADDICTION

Exodus 3:7-8

There are so many parallels between the

Exodus of the children of Israel and the

deliverance of a drug addict. Here are a few

from Exodus 3:

“I have SEEN the affliction of my people…” v.7 The

affliction of addiction breaks the heart of God because addicts

are suffering for sins for which Jesus has already suffered.

God sees this affliction with His all-seeing eye.

“And have HEARD their cry by reason of their taskmas-

ters…” v.7 God is not deaf to the cries of those who seek

relief. He hears clearly the cry of faith from the heart of the

person who genuinely seeks to be set free.

“I KNOW their sorrows…” v. 7 When Jesus took our sins in

His body on the tree, The Godhead was at that very point

intimately acquainted with the sorrow addictions cause.

“I am COME DOWN…” v. 8 Thank God that He did not just

sit in heaven and see, hear, and know the bondage of the

addict, but praise His Holy Name He did something about it.

He came down to Bethlehem, He went down at Calvary, He

came down at Pentecost, and He comes down into the life of

the addict who turns to Him in faith.

“I am come down TO DELIVER…” v. 8 When He descends

into the life of a desperate addict, He means business. He

breaks the chains and changes the heart. He splits the sea so

they can pass through it and say “I am a child of God.”

“And to BRING THEM UP AND OUT…” v. 8 Oh the joy of

ascending from the depths of the bondage of addiction to the

heights of the Glory of God, and to be seated at His right hand

in Christ Jesus.

CHILDREN OF HOPE TREE

By Brenda Finlay

WOW! We are really going to need a

lot of help this year! Please, will you

bring this great need to your church,

class, group, employer, club, etc? We

simply cannot do this alone. Our list

of children is published on our

Facebook page at Mission Of Hope

Mobile Alabama. Names are added

almost every day, so please check the

list often.

Allow me to tell you what makes the Children of Hope Tree

unique from every other "angel tree" you know about. The

majority of our clients come to the mission with their family

relationships extremely strained, broken or non-existent.

When you send in your $50 contribution to sponsor a child

on our tree, our "elves" take our list and shop for all the

children. The toys are then organized by age category, and

placed on tables. Our clients come in and "shop" (at no cost,

of course) for the perfect toys for their children. Then, our

clients wrap the gifts, write their own card and present the

gifts to their children on Christmas visitation day. This goes

a long way in restoring those broken relationships.

When moms and dads come to be on our program at

Christmas time, it is so hard for them to be away from their

families, and the worry of not being able to work to buy

their children gifts is a very real burden for them. Once they

hear about our Children of Hope Tree, their concerns go

away, and they are able to focus on getting the help they

need and finishing their program here. It really is a win-win

for everyone. YOUR sponsorship does that. Please help.

And if you can't contribute, please help us spread the word.

Thank you so much!

Send your contribution to: Children of Hope Tree, c/o

Brenda Finlay, 14970 Mission Rd., Mobile, AL 36608.

May God bless you!

We need your help to make Christmas special for our

men at the Mission. Please contact Carol Miller @

649-0830 on Mondays and Wednesdays. You can

donate gifts, money or Wal-Mart gift cards.

We appreciate all you can do.

Missionaries from Russia, Travis and Sue Barfield, brought

back with them to the United States Oleg and Ira Bragin.

They were honored guest speakers at a chapel service where

all three campuses attended. Oleg and Ira shared with the

clients their testimonies of overcoming addiction, and how

God has entrusted them to now be in charge of running the

same rehab of which they were once clients. Russian born

Sergei, now a resident of Alabama, translated while the

Russians testified! Clients learned “Slava Bogu”, which

translates from Russian to “Praise God” in English. Our

director, Rev. Jim Jordan said “ No matter what country you

are from, Jesus is the answer”.

We would like to thank God for

all who came to

support Mission of Hope at

Zaxby’s on Spirit Night. It was

a great success.

This 1971 Mustang convertible was repaired

by Stuart Roper in the King Motors paint and

body shop. Extensive body work and a qual-

ity paint job made the antique vehicle look

brand new. It was selected by the 71-73

Mustang Club, out of 12,000 other mustangs

world wide, as the car of the month for Au-

gust . If you have a vehicle that needs paint

and body work, you can get a quality job at

reasonable prices and help Mission of Hope

Ministries at the same time. Call for an

Matt’s Testimony

My name is Matthew

Euler. I am a for-

given, healed and

delivered son of the

King. This is an

amazing thing be-

cause the old me was

known in many other

ways. I was a drug

addict, an alcoholic. a liar, a cheater, a deadbeat

dad, a scheming, scamming sorry excuse for

what God created. This all changed when I

came to Jesus Christ.

I grew up in a good home with amazing parents.

I had every opportunity to succeed in life, but

during my senior year I suffered a shoulder in-

jury and was prescribed OxyContin. Without

any conscious decision I was taking them more

than I should have been. This, coupled with my

football career being over, lead to a change of

mind and heart in regards to drugs. During the

next 12 or 13 years my drug use covered every

drug that I knew to exist.

When I was 23 I met the love of my life, Kinser

Lee. We hit it off fast. We were very in love

and were flying into our lives together. Unfor-

tunately I was still flying high most of the time,

and after only 3 years we were divorced. It did-

n’t take long for me to disappear out of their

lives and I would go 5 years without seeing or

even talking to them. This was the worst time

of my life. I wanted to die and was actively

trying to overdose.

Finally I ran out of road and had enough. I

turned myself in to the Fairhope city jail on

several warrants. I started to pray. I didn’t even

know it at the time but I was crying out to the

Lord. I was released on a random Wednesday

in December almost 3 months early and I de-

cided to call the Mission of Hope.

During my 90 days in the program and 5 months

in the halfway house I developed a sound rela-

tionship with Jesus Christ. I’m eternally thank-

ful for the staff and volunteers at the Mission

who guided me along the way. During this time

Jesus reconnected my wife and me. She wrote

me a letter that closed by saying “I’m not mad

anymore. In fact, I forgave you when I became

a Christian”. Since then God has fully restored

our family. We were remarried on February 21st

of this year. Our son was the one who walked

her down the aisle and gave her to me. We are

now living a happy and fulfilling life. I coach

my son’s football team, we are active in our

church, and have started a ministry of our own

called Hope Dealers Ministries. We are so

grateful for our Lord and savior Jesus Christ and

the work that He is consistently doing at the

Mission of Hope.

The Mission of Hope Ministries Choir

would love to worship with you and your

church. They love singing praises to our

Lord Jesus Christ. Contact Jamie

Kirkwood @ 649-0830 to schedule them

to be a part of your church service.
