THE CROSS OF JESUS

An understanding of the Cross of Jesus is only

possible by revelation from God, but that un-

derstanding is absolutely necessary if we are to

live for God.

I. THE REALITY OF THE CROSS: Commentators tell us

that 30,000 people died on a cross the same year Jesus did, and

to most passersby it was a common crucifixion. But, to God it was the historical event of eternity, as it should be to us. Over

one third of Gospel material centers around the few days sur-rounding the crucifixion of Jesus, and the Old Testament

abounds with verses about His death. The cross of Jesus is the

conversation of heaven (Luke 9:29-31).

II. THE MESSAGE OF THE CROSS: It is a message of power. The cross of Jesus has the power to save us (I Cor.

1:18,24). It is a message of purity. It has the ability to cleanse

us (I Cor. 1:30-31, Heb. 9:26). No wonder the devil has made it a stumbling block to the Jews and foolishness to the Greeks (I

Cor. 1:23). Both of the thieves that died with Jesus that day started out cursing Him in their pain (Matt. 27:44). But one of

them, as he saw Jesus respond to His pain for us, turned his

heart toward Jesus and believed (Luke 23:39-43). That career convict became a cleansed Christian in the last moments of his

earthly life.

III. THE DIFFICULTY OF THE CROSS: The first cen-

tury Jews emphasized religion as the answer to man’s sinful-ness, the Greeks emphasized education and wisdom, and the

Romans emphasized military and political might as the answer. Although these things are necessary for a nation to survive, they

cannot save the soul of man. Satan fears and hates the cross of

Jesus because it is his defeat, it is our deliverance (Gal. 6:14), and it is God’s power (I Cor. 1:18, 24). No wonder Paul de-

clared “For I determined not to know any thing among you,

save Jesus Christ, and Him crucified.” (I Cor. 2:2). Is the

cross of Jesus inside your heart?

On Saturday, February 18, 2017, Jerre Clark and

tions Manager, a Bible teacher, and Counselor for

the men. Jerre is a graduate of the Haven of Hope in

2015, and was house mother at our Fruitdale Cam-

pus in 2016. By the power of God’s Grace and

Mercy, they found each other.

cottages on the property of Mission of Hope.

Shelley’s

Testimony

I'm the daughter of

a beauty queen

turned alcoholic

and grew up believ-

ing I was doomed to be just like my

mother. When she died my life be-

came a perpetual haze of alcohol,

drugs and men. I grasped at anything

that I thought might save me from the

emptiness I felt inside. I used because I

hated myself and hated myself because

I used. I became trapped, a prisoner of

my own making, paranoid and afraid.

"We are troubled on every side, yet not

distressed; we are perplexed, but not in

despair; Persecuted, but not forsaken;

cast down, but not destroyed”

2 Corinthians 4:8-9.

When I arrived at the Haven in Feb.

2016, I was broken. I came to treat-

ment to find myself and I found God

instead. I had not been abandoned,

but instead rescued by the Blood of the

Lamb. I have learned I am not defeated

but instead, I am victorious.

I am now working as a house mom for

the Fruitdale, Alabama campus. I

would have thought I could never be

good enough to work for a ministry.

But Philippians 4:13 says I can do all

things through Christ which strength-

ens me, and here I am. God's restor-

ing relationships and rebuilding

bridges that I thought I had burned.

Am I happy every day? No matter how

I may feel, I have the joy of the Lord.

He is my rock, my strength. I never

have to worry nor be afraid. I am a

daughter of the Most High King and

thanks to Him, I am an overcomer. I no

longer feel doomed to be an addict like

my mother. Instead, I strive to be more

like my Father in heaven.

But God forbid

that I should glory,

our Lord Jesus

Christ, by whom

the world is cruci-

fied unto me, and I

unto the world.
