WHAT IF MY PARENTS DO NOT LIKE MY FIANCE?

This is a common ques-tion for couple who are planning to get married. First of all, you got to know the reason why they don’t like him or her. There must be a reason why they are against your fiancé. Hindi naman siguro kokontra ang mga magulang mo ng ganun-ganuun nalang. There’s got to be a reason! Well, these are the ques-tions that need to be asked

just accordingly.

Gusto mo comedy and romance, gusto niya horror at suspense. Yan at marami pang ibang differences. Alamin ninyo ang likes and dislikes ng bawat isa, then meet in the middle. Hindi puwedeng yung isa lang ang mag-aadjust. Ika nga, dapat give and take.

RELIGIOUS BELIEFGusto nya magsimba sa

Roman-Catholic Church, gusto mo naman sa Chris-tian Church. Kapag hindi nyo ito pinag-usapan at pinag-kasunduan ng mabu-ti, this might be a source of conflict in the near future especially when you have children of your own.

One parent wants to teach the kids to pray to this ‘god’ and the other one teaches another one. This might bring confusion later. It is much better for both of you to agree on one god that you’ll follow and worship so that there will be no confusion. Here’s the picture, imagine a farmer na may hawak na kalabaw sa kanang kamay nya at kambing naman sa kabila. Bukod sa nakakalito, mas nakakapagod. So to save yourselves from endless fights and arguments, take this matter seriously.

and considered. Now it is time to discuss

the third possible issue:

PHILOSOPHY PROBLEMDo you have differences

when it comes to your personal, religious, cultural and financial belief? These are important matters to consider before getting married.

“Chinkee, issue pa ba iyan, basta nagmamahalan kayo, tapos.” Maniwala ka, kapag hindi ninyo pina-gusapan ito, maaga rin matatapos ang pagmama-halan ninyo.

You just need to un-derstand, lumaki kayo sa magka-ibang bahay kaya siguradong magkaiba ang prinsipyo ninyo sa buhay.Your values and cultures are surely different from each other too! Even the way your parents raised you is an important factor why you have a certain culture, values, standard, and conviction. Imagine yung malaking adjustments na gagawin ninyo to adapt with each other’s company. So better discuss these things first so you can ad-

CULTURAL BELIEFMay mga tradition siya

na pinaniniwalaan niya since he/she was a child. For example, every sunday he/she spends time with his family. Hindi ka nasanay sa ganitong tradition kasi pag Sunday, barkada mo ang kasama mo.

Like in my case, I am 100% Filipino-Chinese. My wife is a Filipina from Tia-ong, Quezon. Although we were raised from two differ-ent background, belief, and culture, we were able to agree on setting aside our differences prior to getting married. We formed and created our own rules and guidelines on how we are going to handle our differ-ences.

A happy and success-ful marriage requires hard work. Hindi ito katulad ng ‘fairy tale’ na may auto-matic ending na “..and they lived happily ever after”.

You will experience a lot of adjustments and teaching moments that will better you not just as a couple but also as a per-son. You will have to learn and unlearn.

Kaya nga merong ‘en-gagement’ process. Hindi lang ito para sa prenuptial photoshoot and wedding preparations, but most importantly it is a sea-son wherein they engage themselves with each oth-ers family, belief, values, culture, and more. It’s an immersion of one’s self to his/her partner in whom he/she will be united for the rest of his/her life. Despite the differences they have, they will be united as one. Tulad ng toyo at calamansi, dinuguan at puto, mang-gang hilaw at alamang; they should learn how to complement each other.

The key is not compat-ibility but the desire to complement. I think those

differences should not be an issue. What matters most is your willingness and passion to become one, not just in flesh but in everything and that in-cludes your values, culture and beliefs.

Specia l Gospel o f the day: Luke20:27-4 ( O c t o b e r 3 1 , 2014-Fr iday) Luke 20:27-40-There were therefore seven breth-ren: and the first took a wife, and died without children. And the sec-ond took her to wife, and he died childless. And the third took her; and in like manner the seven also: and they left no children, and died. Last of all the woman died also. Therefore in the resurrect ion whose wife of them is she? for seven had her to wife. And Jesus answering said unto them, The children of this world marry, and are given in marriage: But they which shall be accounted worthy to obtain that world, and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry, nor are given in marriage: Neither can they die any more: for they are equal unto the angels; and are the children of God, be-ing the children of the resurrection. Puericulture, anyone?only to make parents aware of their responsibilities to their children. He expressed hopes that through this law, parents will realize that their children should be cared for and not used for illegal activities. This is where sound pueri-culture comes in. If you’re not yet ready to become a parent, then follow the adage “True love waits.” Don’t add up the phrase “But true lust can’t.” That may be a lame attempt of a sick joke but that’s a sad truth. Teenage pregnan-cies have surged in 2013, according to a PSA survey that was commissioned by Popcom and released last

I’M supposed to write about Halloween but since I have already written a piece about that a few days back, I’m gonna discuss puericulture instead. So what exactly is puericulture? Is it the culture found exclusively in Puerto, Cagayan de Oro? Is it akin to vermiculture? Nah, neither of the two. Puericulture is simply a synonym for parenting. Earlier this month, council-ors here in CDO lobbied for a Parent Responsibility Code to be approved so parents of delinquent minors will be held responsible for the erring actions of their kids (at least those who are traced to still have their parents

with them). The clamor of the councilors started after gangs of youth hoodlums were discovered at a pub-lic elementary school. The councilors were perplexed on how the actions of these school kids were tolerated by the parents to say the most or they simply didn’t care on whether their child was already into gang stuff to say the least. Parents are not wholly to be blamed. Media specifically Star Cinema and Wattpad have already glamorized the existence of delinquent youth in our society and transformed these gangsters into romantic heroes. Of course, She’s Dating the

Gangster has never been an action movie and is mostly into mushy stuff but the producers’ willingness to input “gangster” in the title means a lot.It is at this subliminal point that parents must have turned the other way and ignored the telltale signs that their sixth graders are already into gangs. That’s why councilors are look-ing into the possibility for parents to be responsible for their child’s actions. Councilor Eric Salcedo, chair of the committee on social services and author of the proposed ordinance, said this is all about recog-nizing the primary right

and obligation of parents to provide for their children and educating parents and guardians and institutions on the matter. He stressed that it is high time for the city to step up efforts to educate, conduct awareness and guide parents on their responsibilities, among others. The pro-posed law includes Du-ties of Parents, Violation of Child Rights and Other Acts and/or Conditions Prejudicial to the Child’s Development, Liabilities and Penalties, among oth-ers. For his part, Councilor Monching “Botar” Tabor said it is the right time for this particular legislation if

summer. Many of these mothers eventually become single moms. There are a lot of single moms that I know who are responsible. But not all of them will turn out to be. The solution is simple. Own your actions. Happy trickin’ and treatin’!

ARIES (March 21 – April 19) - Don’t be surprised to see your co-workers acting a bit silly today, Aries. There is no getting around the high spirits that permeate the office environment. It’s almost impossible to get any work done with today’s planetary atmosphere. Rather than cracking the whip and trying to increase productivity, why not join in? Lighten up a little.

TAURUS (April 20 – May 20) - Life’s been a real social whirl lately, Taurus. You may feel a bit overwhelmed by all the people and parties. It’s fun to see everyone, but a bit daunting to renew ties with old friends and try to remember the names of new ones. Names and faces mingle to the point where you aren’t sure of your own name, much less anyone else’s.

GEMINI (May 21 – June 21) - With all the social events you’ve attended lately, Gemini, it’s likely that you’ve met some people in the healing pro-fessions. These doctors, nurses, and technicians could be useful to you later. Be sure to file their contact information away for future reference. On another front, expect to receive some good news concerning your finances.

CANCER (June 22 – July 22) - You may discover an untapped talent today, Cancer. Perhaps there’s a new machine in the office and you’re the only one who can figure out how to use it. Maybe drafting a simple business proposal makes you realize how much you enjoy the writing process. This is a good day for any kind of creative endeavor, as well as for paperwork of all sorts.

LEO (July 23 – August 22) - Expect some positive developments today that impact the whole family, Leo. Perhaps you or your mate will receive word of a significant raise or great job opportunity. Perhaps you meet the one who is right for you, and you know it the instant you shake hands. Whichever it is, don’t let the opportunity pass. If you don’t seize it, someone else surely will.

VIRGO (August 23 – September 22) - You should be feeling especially confident today, Virgo. You’ve been working especially hard lately, and the recognition you’ve received goes a long way toward reinforcing your feelings of self-worth. Your life goals suddenly seem more attainable and you’ll pursue them with renewed vigor. Your confidence is grounded in reality. You will surely succeed.

LIBRA (September 23 – October 22) - This is a day made for fun and frivolity, Libra, not one in which you’re likely to get many of your chores done. Try as you might to focus on the task at hand, there are distractions everywhere you turn. Your email pals could be sending you jokes and notes, and your friends could be bugging you to join them for an outing of some sort. You may as well give in.

SCORPIO (October 23 – November 21) - You’re a person of many talents, and today you’re likely to discover yet another one, Scorpio. The delivery of a new piece of equipment makes you feel like you’ve been given a toy for your sole enjoyment. But once you get the computer or piece of machinery up and running, you need to share it with your co-workers!

SAGITTARIUS (November 22 – December 21) - Don’t be surprised if people surround you today, each one anxious to confer with you. It seems that you’re the authority on all topics, Sagittarius. All the attention is flatter-ing, but it makes it difficult to get any work done. Do what you can to help your co-workers, and then tell them that the help desk is closed for the day.

CAPRICORN (December 22 – January 19) - Don’t let yourself be manipulated by needy friends, Capricorn. With today’s planetary energies, it’s a good time to think about setting clear boundaries. You know which friends are there for you and lift you up and which ones tend to drain all your time and energy with the constant need for your immediate attention. Try saying no. You can’t fix other people’s lives for them anyway. Think about it.

AQUARIUS (January 20 – February 18) - This is a good day for sharing friendship with pals and co-workers, Aquarius. People will be in a light, social-izing mood and not much in a working frame of mind. There’s really no use fighting this energy. Enjoy yourself today and allow yourself to detach from work issues. You can all get back to the grindstone later. The work will still be there.

PISCES (February 19 – March 20) - Your technical skills take a real leap forward today, Pisces. It seems all that training you’ve done is finally paying off. Your new skills will greatly increase your efficiency and enhance your marketability. If you’ve been thinking about ap-plying for a new position, get your resume ready to send out when you see an appealing ad.
