Masthead Name Ideas

The connotations of the word ‘Sitch’ is short for ‘Situation’. It is a term that is widely used on the street that refers to something big that happens that involves a lot of people.

Font: Bebas

Font: Evogria

There are a lot of connotations behind the word ‘Bail’. The literal term for Bail on the street is to leave. This could either be the area or bail for prison. The meaning for my magazine could be that by reading this magazine you are going to be bailed for your usual boring life.Evogria font is also similar to BlaxStabXXL, however because it is different to the XXL font it may make a good font to use on my magazine.

247 is the code on the street for ‘All Day Hustle’, most likely referring to 24/7. The font used here is the official XXL font and because of it, it may not make the best font to use as it is exactly the same.

Fonts used for each name are interchangeable.

Brand Identity

Web Address – The presence of a web address on the majority of pages on the magazine will help to build the brand identity of the magazine. It will be seen on most pages and therefore people may be more likely to look at it and get pulled into the content of the magazine and the website.

Social Media – The presence of social media, mainly on front cover and contents page makes sure that the audience sees that they have Twitter or Facebook pages in which updates can be posted. This would be mainly something for the avid readers to keep on top of the magazine updates.

Editorial – The editorial is key to building the brand identity of my music magazine. It is the main page that will be building a ‘Personal Relationship’ (Katz) with the audience. The editorial will have to be written with some of the language of this genre in order to build a better relationship and identity of the magazine.

Font Styles – The font style I will use inside my magazine will have to use will have to be very plain and simple, that will be very easy to read. Most likely a San Serif font. Eg.

Products Advertised – The majority of the products being advertised in my magazine will be sports clothing, or expensive jewellery. There may also be some car related advertisements as well. These are the most common adverts seen in a rap magazine. By the choice of these products being advertised helps to build up the general lifestyle the audience may live.

Strapline Language

Bailing You Out – Inspired by the title of the magazine, suggesting that by reading this magazine, you are able to be ‘Bailed’ out of your normal, standard life.

The UK’s Biggest Hip-Hop Magazine – This strapline has been inspired by XXL’s strapline (Hip Hop of a Higher Level). This may encourage someone to buy the magazine if they see something saying it is the biggest Hip Hop magazine.

The UK’s Biggest Hip Hop Bail Out – This strapline is also similar to XXL’s strapline. However I believe it is potentially more fitting for its purpose as it involves the magazine name Bail.

Colour Schemes

Main Task - Mind Map

Black and White – The usual colour scheme used on magazines such as XXL and Vibe. The also usually use some other splashes of colours such as red or orange.

White Only – In the majority of the pages in XXL, the pages where the interviews are and other stories the pages are plain white or a light grey colour.

Black Only – A lot of other rap magazines usually have a black background colour on the front cover. A lot of the advertising pages are also dark colours, such as black and dark greys.

Black and Red – These colours together have been seen to work well in previous issues of XXL or Vibe. Black could connote the darkness and is a fierce colour that connotes anger and passion.
