Summertime and Vacation in Skiatook

“ These were all commended for their faith, yet none of them received what had been promised, since God had planned something better for us so that only together with us would they be made

School is out, and it is summertime here! Summertime often brings thoughts of relaxation, fun-filled weekends, down time, and maybe even vacations. Summer is often a time for family weekend getaways, pool parties, lake weekends, camping trips, grill outs, fishing, porch sitting, church camp, mission trips, and just generally an easy-going way of life. Personally, I love summer, and I love the slower pace of life and the “not-quite-so-busy” calen-dar we often live by. I haven’t actually planned a vacation yet, but that is on my list of things to do. As humans, we all need this kind of break. We need to take time to relax, and if possible, even take a vacation here and there. It’s good for our bodies, and good for our souls. Sometimes, even just a bit of time off, or even a “staycation” is incredibly refreshing and renewing. I hope each of you get to take at least a bit of time to relax and enjoy the summer. However, I would like to encourage you to not necessarily let your FAITH take a vacation all summer! If you are in town, I encourage you to continue attending church! Maybe plan that lake trip after church is out on Sun-day, or come to the early service and be out in plenty of time to still enjoy the day! I encourage you to keep your devotional life fueled, and include daily prayer and Bible reading. Even on vacation, we can still encounter God’s presence, especially if you are out in nature, or involved in enjoying the great outdoors! Take a moment as you enjoy God’s creation, and give thanks for what God has done in your life. Give thanks for those blessings that we may often take for granted. The Bible verse at the top of the page is from Hebrews chapter 11. This chapter is often referred to as the “Faith Chapter.” The writer of Hebrews is recounting the faith of many people throughout the Bible, and the early church, and what an amazing witness they were to the people around them. Even through hardship and difficulty, the writer lists name after name of those who remained faithful. It’s a bit of a history lesson as we are reminded of the faithfulness of generations of people. If you have the opportunity to leave town on vacation—Great! Visit another church wherever you are for a differ-ent experience, but still worship somewhere. Tell a Bible story around a campfire. Take a few moments to pray, and give thanks. When in town, make every effort to attend worship, and continue the church’s mission through your prayers, presence, gifts, service and witness. Take a moment and read Hebrews chapter 11, and be reminded of the lasting legacy of what faithfulness looks like! Oh, and in the meantime—Enjoy Your Summer!

Summer Mission

It is once again time for our summer mis-sion of taking lunch-es to the kids and families at the city pool. This is the 4th summer we have done this in conjunction with other churches. We assemble approximately 50 sack lunches and take them to the pool where they are given to the kids and families there. Once again, our day is Thursday. Miria Jones, our Children's Director is in charge of this mission. If you are able to help, please let her know. If You would like to donate, please mark checks or envelopes with “Pool Lunches.”.

I would like to thank eve-ryone in this AWESOME church for supporting me on My Walk to Em-maus. I would like to give a special thank you to some people that had a big part in my walk, Thank you, Susan, for always being there when I needed anything. I have not had a better person in my cor-ner for my spiritual growth. Thank you to everyone that wrote letters to me. It was one of the best parts of the weekend. Thank you to Dustin Odom and Linda &Gary Tucker for being there for the can-dle light service. Thank you, Mark Whitley, for being there for me-always with an encouraging word for me. A very special thank you to James Prather for sponsoring me on my walk. If there is a better person in this world, I don't know who he is!! Thank you to my amaz-ing family, for letting me go on this journey. I LOVE YOU!!!!! It was the experience of a lifetime. I found out more about "Grace" in a weekend than I have in almost 50 years. The love and support from each of you means the world to me!

News from Finance Committee

2015 was the best year we had financially in a number of years. Based on the pledges for 2016, and the giving receipts from last year, our 2016 budget is rather ambitious! We actually budgeted 100% of our apportionments for the first time in several years, and also increased amounts for areas such as Chil-dren’s Ministry (VBS, Children’s church, FIX, etc.), mission, and repairs/maintenance.

The good news? After the first quarter’s giving report, we are on track to meet and fund our 2016 budget, though it is close. Thank you so much for your faithfulness. We are so grateful for you who made pledges, and those of you who may not have pledged, but are giving generously each week or month. We have also had some gifts to our Building Fund, which go directly to the loan principal to help pay off our debt! We also have the option of giving directly from your bank, so pick up a card from the office if you are interested in that. Thank you, again, for your faithfulness!

LAF Building News

Did you know the LAF Building is over 10 years old? That building has seen so much use, including VBS, fel-lowship dinners, Lenten events, our after school pro-gram, Scouts, United Methodist Men, basketball, blood drives, fundraisers, receptions, and so much more! Can you imagine what we did without it? One thing that is not hard to imagine would be having no debt on that building! How wonderful it would be for the monthly note we pay on it to be freed up for minis-try? Did you know that we currently pay $2200.00 a month on the note for that building? (You read that cor-rectly!) What ministry and mission could we do for an extra $2200.00 a month? The good news is that the debt is now just below $299,000.00. The finance committee has faithfully been chipping away at it. Any extra donations that you give directed toward the Building Fund goes directly to the principle, and helps us pay it off quicker! Thank you to those who contribute to that fund! We encourage oth-ers to do so as well. Thanks so much!
