LANDON & AMY WARREN Landon and Amy met at Southwestern Oklahoma State where Landon graduated with an Interdisciplinary Degree and Amy graduated with a health care administration degree. Landon is pur-suing a masters of divinity now at Rockbridge Seminary. Landon has been serving at First Bap-

tist Church, Arapaho, Oklahoma since May 2015. Amy has been working in healthcare since she graduated in May of 2015. They were married June 13, 2015 and have been serving together since then. They enjoy both watching and playing sports. They spend most of their time with students or with family, and when they're not doing that they enjoy having date nights, whether that is going out to a movie or watching Netflix. They just enjoy anything that involves spending time together. Landon is with us today in view of a call as our Student Pastor. He met with the staff on Saturday and will meet in Sunday School today with the youth and youth leaders; in the morning ser-vice he will share his testimony and then a brief message at Christ-maSing tonight. Following ChristmaSing we will vote concerning his call. Please be in prayer for the Warrens during this important time of decision for them and our church.

Thank you, church family, for the overwhelming outpouring of love and support you have shown our family in the past month. We cherish every card, call, message and prayer you have of-fered on our behalf. Thank you for providing meals, childcare and your time to attend Randy’s funeral. It was such a comfort to be surrounded by so many friends who had covered us in prayer. We are so blessed with a loving Father and a church family who offers themselves as an extension of His love!

QUARTERLY CONFERENCE Sunday, December 13

5:00 pm Make a note! Our year end QCC will be held next Sunday at 5:00 pm in the AWANA gym at the WRC.

The agenda for the meeting will include a couple of small items of annual year end “housekeeping” but will primarily be the discussion of the 2016 Ministry Action Budget. Copies of the 2016 MAB will be available after the morning service next Sunday to give you time to look it over before the meeting. This will be your only opportunity to ask questions so we encour-age you to be here for this meeting. We will vote on it at the close of the morning service on December 20. We are meeting before the evening service at 5:00 pm in the AWANA gym in order to leave the sanctuary open for guests who will be arriving early to get front row seats for the 6:00 pm JOY Preschool & Kindergarten Christmas program and to leave us time after the program to fellowship with the many families who will be visiting our church that evening.

WORLD MISSIONS OFFERING

Skiatook First Baptist Church

“Sending the love of Christ around the world!”

In 2014 our church voted to emphasize missions giving 365 days a year instead of only seasonally during the annual offerings for Oklahoma, North American and International missions. While we would still empha-size the Edna McMillan, Annie Armstrong and Lottie Moon offerings, members would be encouraged to give to missions any time during the year and the funds would be distributed proportionally among those three offerings at year’s end. This is the reason for the “World Missions Offer-ing (WMO)” line on the offering envelopes provided by the church. The Lottie Moon Christmas Offering is our final 2015 emphasis to support the WMO. With the major staff changes we have gone through in 2015 we have not been as diligent in emphasizing the WMO as we had planned and are not at the level of support we had hoped. We encourage you to prayerfully consider a gift to world missions during our emphasis of Lottie Moon and help us reach our WMO vision for 2015.

THE EGALESE” OF YEAR-END GIVING For many the transition from Dec. 31 to Jan. 1 is like any other day. For others, however, it is the beginning of a new fiscal year and an important deadline for taking care of financial matters. That often includes making sure that all potential tax deductions for the current year are properly ac-counted and accredited. Contributions to charitable and religious causes fall into this category, so it may help to avoid misunderstandings in your annual contribution records to remind you of the legal guidelines estab-lished for year end contributions.

As stated in the Baptist Regional Tax Seminar notebook (based on tax law as interpreted by legal / tax experts of the BGCO): Many church members make larger contributions at the end of the year. Some mail their checks to the church, while others deposit their “year-end check” in either the last service in December or the first Sunday in Janu-ary. Here are the rules that apply. Charitable contributions must be claimed in the year in which they are delivered. One exception is a check that is mailed to a charity—it is deductible in the year the check is post-marked, even if it is delivered early in the next year. If you receive a check in the mail in the first week of 2016 that is enclosed in an envelope that is postmarked in December 2015, you should include the contribution on the donor’s 2015 contribution statement. However, a member who contributes a personal check to your church in an offering on January 1, 2016 cannot claim a 2015 deduction, even if the check is backdated to read “December 31, 2015.” You must report such a check on the member’s 2016 contribu-tion statement. The same would hold true for checks written in 2015 but not delivered to the church until 2016. As noted above, the critical factor is the date of delivery except in the case of checks postmarked but not deliv-ered in 2015.

The bottom line is, if you want giving to be included on your 2015 contri-bution record, we need to have the donations given (or postmarked) before December 31, 2015. Also, as you plan your year end giving, remember there are many other creative ways to give which would not only help the church, but could help the giver if he/she is looking for charitable deduc-tions. Appreciated stocks, bonds and mutual funds which you have owned for 12 months or longer often can be donated in such a way as to get a deduction on the full market value of the securities while avoiding a capital gains tax. Real estate / personal property may also carry the same advan-tages when appreciation has occurred. Donors would need to obtain an appraisal before making the gift as the church cannot serve as an official appraiser. If you would like information on the best methods to contribute “non-cash” gifts, or to get help on establishing living trusts, wills, etc., your Baptist Foundation of Oklahoma is a great place to start. You can call them at 1-800-949-9988 or check them out on the web at www.bfok.org.
