New Model MTI-755 Offers Low Cost, High Reliability
Monolithic Main Memory for IBM 370/155 Users.
Introduction
The 370/155 user now has a lowercost, more reliable alternative for
memory storage. The significant
cost savings is reason enough touse the MTI-755. In addition,
designed-in reliability, self-diag-
nostic hardware and plug-for-
plug compatibility make it easy tounderstand why the MTI-755 was
the first 370/155 monolithic main
memory purchased by a user.
Features
Low cost
Up to 2 million bytes of storage
Complete System / 370
compatibility- no CPU modi-fication required.
Increased Reliability Internal self test and fault diag-
nosis (to isolate memory from
CPU for maintenance).
Replaceable memory arraycards for rapid, simplified
maintenance.
All standard 370/155 memory
upgrades available.
Field upgradeable to larger
memory sizes.
Up to 77%floor space saving
50% less power required. 370 level of diagnostic and
maintenance capability.
General DescriptionThe MTI-755 Monolithic Main
Memory System is a plug-for-plug
equivalent to the IBM 3360 Basic
Storage Module used on the370/155 computer. The memory
connects directly to the StorageAdapter in the 3155, without Cen-
tral Processor modification. All
standard storage increments, from
256K bytes to 2 million bytes areoffered. All memory specifications
of the IBM 3360 are met or
exceeded by the MTI-755. Mono-lithic Semiconductor technology
provides a five fold increase in
reliability.

Technology of the 70'sMonolithic Semiconductor isclearly the technology of the 70's- already chosen by IBM for its
370/135 and 145 memories. MTI'sMonolithic Semiconductor designresults in the over-riding purchaseconsideration: significant costsavings.
Increased Reliability -In addition, Monolithic Semi-conductor reliability surpassesother main memory approachesbecause of the substantially fewercomponents and fewer wiredinterconnections.
Reduced Power Consumption -
Less than half that of IBM memory- minimizes power requirementsand reduces air conditioningloads.
Space Savingsup to 77% aremadepossible by MTI's Monolith icSemiconductor technology - up to2 million bytes can be containedin the same amount of floor spacerequired for 512K bytes of con-ventional core storage.
Memory UpgradesField expansion of the MTI-755 tomeet increasing capacity require-ments is also greatly simplified.
MTI's approach allows completeflexibility from an additional 256Kbytes to the full 2 mill ion bytes. For example, field expansion from256K bytes to 512K bytes isaccomplished by simply pluggingin additional array cards into thepre-wired connectors in the MTI-755.
For capacities larger than 1 mil-lion bytes a second enclosure isused.
CompatibilityThe MTI-755 is attached directlyto the existing IBM MemoryCables, and operates at the same
speed as the IBM 3360. Whenreplacing a 3360, no CPU modi-fications are required.
MaintainabilityComplete hardware diagnosticcapability is an integral part of theMTI-755. This feature enables theCustomer Engineer to locate faultsquickly, and to identify individualarray cards in the system for easyreplacement. Fewer componentsand the organization of mono-lithic semiconductor componentson the Array Cards not only helpsimplify circuitry, but also mini-mize down time.
Monolithic semiconductor device stores2,048 bits.
Semiconductor memory card in theMTI-755 stores 16K bytes of information.
MTI-755 enclosure houses up to 1,024Kbytes of storage.

Memory Technology is a six-year-old American Research and Devel-opment Company engaged in thedesign and manufacture of mem-
ory systems for the computerindustry and the computer user.Over 9,600 memory systems havebeen delivered, including READ-Only memories, minicomputeradd-on memories, RAM systems, and main memories. Over 2,000 ofthese memories are being used inIBM plug-to-plug compatiblecontrollers.
Technologies developed andimplemented by MTI haveinvolved proprietary core tech-niques as well as MOS and
bi-polar semiconductor tech-nologies. The 700 Series of plug toplug compatible System 370 MainMemory Systems developed byMTI demonstrate the Company'scontinuing commitment-andcapability-to provide the mem-ory technology of the 70's.
