Appendix B KSeek Utility

Overview

The American Megatrends MegaRAC K1 family of server and system remotemanagement cards can be accessed from anywhere on your Intranet through an Internetbrowser. This is a great way to maintain your critical server when you are nowhere nearit.

This chapter explains how to locate your MegaRAC K1 on your local network using theKSeek utility.

Locating Your MegaRAC K1

In order to configure your MegaRAC K1 completely, you must access the MegaRAC K1from another system on the same network. This document refers to this other system as aclient system. To do this, you must know the MegaRAC K1’s IP address. If you haveinstalled the MegaRAC K1 on a network that uses DHCP, you can search the network forthe MegaRAC K1. To locate and find out its IP address, you must install and run KSeek .

Note: To get or set the IP address on your MegaRAC K1 locally, you can connect to it using theRS-232 port on the K1 and a standard Telnet client (such as HyperTerminal) inconjunction with the KSeek Utility.

Follow the steps in the table below to run KSeek:

Step Description1 On a local network computer, place the MegaRAC K1 CD into the CD-ROM drive. Locate the KSeek

program on your MegaRAC K1 CD Disc. It is located in the following directory:

CDROM\RemoteTools\KSeek.exe

Run the KSeek program by double left clicking on it.2 Left click on the Next button when you see this screen.

Appendix D SConsole Utility

Overview

This appendix explains how to use SConsole. You can access your K1’s SConsolethrough a Telnet client. This is useful when you do not have a DHCP server on yournetwork and need to statically assign the IP address to the K1.

Note: On Linux operating systems, you can use the MiniCom utility. It serves the same purposeas SConsole.

Prerequisites

You need the following before you begin:

• a system with a Telnet client (such as HyperTerminal)• a K1 serial cable (that ships with your K1)• your network’s properties (Subnet and Gateway)• username and password to access the K1 (if different from the default settings)

Hardware Setup

Attach the supplied K1 serial cable to the RS-232 port. Connect the DB 9-pin femaleconnector of the serial cable to a system that has a Telnet Client such as HyperTerminal.
