ShavuotThe festival of Shavuot (Hebrew: ,uguca, lit. "Weeks") is a Jewish holiday that occurs on the sixth day of the Hebrew month of Sivan (late May or early June). Shavuot commemorates the anniversary of the day God gave the Torah to the entire Israelite nation assembled at Mount Sinai. The holiday is one of the three Biblical pilgrimage festivals. It marks the conclusion of the Counting of the Omer.

Shavuot Holiday is linked to the giv-
ing and receiving of the 10 Command-
ments and the study of Torah. Our
current relationship to this ancient hol-
iday continues to have great relevance
for us as well as for future generations.
On Shavuot we proclaim our eternal
covenant with God. We declare that
just as our ancestors who stood at mount
Sinai amidst thunder and lightning and
promised to be holy and Naaseh V’nishma do and listen, we also
make that promise. Shavuot has become a reminder of our obliga-
tion to not only study Torah but to translate its wisdom into action
that will make the world brighter, and much more righteous and
holy. We are told to experience Sinai as if we were present, as if we
ourselves made a sacred promise to make Judaism a part of our lives.
Judaism has a deep connection between study and action, wisdom
and impact, knowledge and power to affect positive change. How-
ever we interpret and apply this fundamental promise, may all of our
Shavuot celebrations be full of inspiration, joy and meaning. Chag
Sameach and enjoy your blintzes!

I hope this bulletin finds you all to be
safe and healthy and on what we all
hope is the road to recovery. We have
had a very interesting couple of months
around here, albeit by Zoom. We had a
Great Purim Service, with much
Thanks to go to the Maurice family for
putting it all together with the Rabbi.
Everyone who was on had a wonderful
time and fulfilling experience. We can’t thank all of you enough.
We had a really fun time at our Game Night event, run by Bob
Sossin and Hillary Josephs, as well as a barrel of laughs on Com-
edy Night 2021. Thank you to Marc Dunn for coordinating that
event and connecting us with two very funny comedians for such
a wonderful night. Great Job to everyone that participated and a
Big Shout Out to all of our Sponsors. THANKS TO YOU ALL.
As I write this article, I am super excited about our 1st Hybrid
Shabbat Service that took place on April 24th. This was a really
Big Step for all of US. Our Team for the AV upgrades to our Sanc-
tuary has been working diligently to get us to where we are and
have been nothing less that spectacular. The tireless support and
leadership of our very own Kerry Sisselman has been nothing short
of amazing. She has put so much time and effort to get us ready.
She has been flanked by the Rabbi and Scott Freet (an angel sent
to us) to get us ready for our eventual return to in-person and
Zoom services. We are doing this with the utmost focus on safety
and precautions. When we are able to be successful at it we will
continually do more. However, that will be up to the attendees co-
operation as well. We still cannot congregate before or after the
services for right now. We will still need to wear masks and social
distance. Let's be patient and one step at a time. More to come.
We are going to lean heavily on our paid staff to get us to the next
phase. Let's remember that under Fran's guidance and Rosanne’s
leadership we have been successful with our ECE since August.
Yashar Koach to you all. Lastly, I would like to take a minute to
Congratulate the Rabbi on his new contract extension. Bob Patron
and his Contract Committee, as well as the entire Board of Gov-
ernors, who voted unanimously to approve the Rabbis five year
contract extension. As we move forward like Frogs (frogs always
go forward and never backwards), let's do it with all the safety and
precautions that we can so we never go backwards. Please stay
Safe, Healthy and Patient.
All the best,
Barry
Temple Sinai is a FAMILY! Since the start of the pandemic in March, dedicated Sinai volunteers have been making weekly phone calls to our membership. The responses to these calls have been so very positive that we have pledged to continue them as long as we have to.
One of the benefits of these personal contacts is that we have been able to help those in need. If you know of any Temple members who could use some special assistance, or you would like to add names to our daily misheberach list, please contact Jennifer Nevo in the office.
We would like to honor this past month’s “call volunteers” and express gratitude for their mitzvah work. Thank you.

As we head into the summer sizzle, I’m so
excited to share all that we are working on in
the Temple office! After more than a year
talking about how anxious we all are to be to-
gether again and return to some semblance of
“normal” after a period of time that was more
challenging and stressful than any of us could
have imagined, it is finally time to share some
of the details! Phase 1 of our multi-phase re-
turn to in-person services and programming has begun. Hopefully
by now everyone has seen the information as it relates to Shabbat
services. When YOU feel it is the right time for YOU, pre-register
to join us on-site! For those who are not quite ready or cannot join
us for whatever reason, we are proud to be able to offer Zoom serv-
ices thanks to all those who very generously donated to equip our
sanctuary with all of the technology needed to always be able to pro-
vide ongoing, interactive worship. You will be amazed at what our ca-
pabilities are and the inclusiveness that will be felt, whether you are
in your home or on-site.
Membership Renewal information will be arriving in your mail
soon. It is our goal to make sure each and every member is able to
renew their commitment to remain a member of the Sinai Family. As
many in our congregation continue the personal struggle due to the
Covid-19 crisis, we have not increased our membership rates again
this year. High Holy Day information will be forthcoming. We en-
courage all members to take care of their membership renewal now,
so that we are able to quickly process high holiday tickets and seat-
ing when the time is appropriate.
Our Kasselman ECE continues to grow and thrive. We are about
to wrap up a year that can only be described as amazing, especially
under the circumstances which prevailed the entire 10 months. Not
only have we seen how resilient and flexible we can be, especially for
the sake of our youngest and most vulnerable population, but we wit-
nessed what is truly a “village” coming together to do what was
needed. Our team that made this happen has my utmost admiration
and respect.
Information and registration will soon be release for the upcom-
ing Religious School and Youth Group year! We cannot wait to wel-
come our Sinai Youth back to campus and, as always, we will
continue to put health and safety first. All of the appropriate
COVID-19 protocol and policies will be in place and we will share
more details as the time comes closer. In the meantime, please con-
tinue to follow the advice of the professionals and leaders around us
and know that in this very uncertain time, one thing is VERY cer-
tain and that is that Temple Sinai will continue to be your Family,
your Community, your Spiritual Home.
I encourage all our Sinai members to please open and read the
emails we send, as it contains important information on all that is
happening and what will be happening soon! Don’t hesitate to reach
out to any of us in the office; we are here for you!
Stay well! Rosanne Mendelowitz

On April 23, 2021, I attended (on zoom)
the WLCJ FLORIDA REGION SPRING
CONFERENCE. We began by praying to-
gether with a lesson on the parsha. We were
treated to a wonderful session with a psy-
chologist and a life coach on the pandemic
and trying to figure out what our new nor-
mal would be. They explored the emotional
aspects, the physical aspects and, of course
the spiritual aspects. It was extremely help-
ful and I believe beneficial to many people.
When it came to our afternoon breakout sessions, I participated
in an Art Therapy session. We had a woman with a masters in fine
arts working with us. We needed paper and at least one writing
implement. I grabbed a sketch pad and crayons. Through listening
to music, we had to draw patterns that we thought mirrored the
music. We did this six times for one minute each. The final sketch
was done listening to music for six minutes. We, again, had to draw
any pattern we wanted. It was extremely relaxing and lots of fun.
I hope for the next conference event we can have a greater par-
ticipation from our sisterhood. I’ll take the responsibility of mak-
ing sure our members are aware of these programs.

Dear Religious School Families,
This has been an unprecedented year. The worldwide pandemic brought with it several challenges. Although some
of the challenges were great, your achievements were greater! Learning and teaching was successfully transitioned
from in-person, to on-line, all while maintaining continuity in our Temple Sinai Community. It is with tremendous
pride that we applaud you, our students, our teachers, our staff and our parents, for the steadfast commitment to Jew-
ish learning. Your accomplishments demonstrate the commitment you have in a religious school education. These
attached photographs capture our classroom days of our students engaged in classroom learning remotely from their
homes. The unconditional support shown by both students and parents, clearly represents the rich connection we
have come to know and appreciate here at Temple Sinai Hollywood. We are excitedly anticipating a return to campus during the fall se-
mester along with a hybrid option for families who may wish to do so. Registrations will be forthcoming shortly via email.
Thank you to everyone who made this school year possible by contributing the time, expertise and lasting energy, ensuring our chil-
dren received the best educational opportunities. Stay tuned for fun planned activities during summer months for Havdalah, drive-in the-
ater and family park days, together with our Temple Sinai family and friends.

Temple Sinai of Hollywood 6
It seems like just yesterday, we began the year with 51 children, not knowing what a year with COVID-19
would look like at the Kasselman ECC. We are now excited to conclude the 2020-2021 School year with 109
children, 37 VPK Graduates.
As our graduates prepare to move on to kindergarten next year, I know that they will leave with not only the
skills to achieve, but the foundation for lifelong learning and continued success.
A picture is worth a thousand words, and it’s my pleasure to share our year.
