New Bible Study
Adult Bible Study Disciple 2: Into the Word into the World On Wednesday, Sept. 14 and Thursday, Sept. 15 we will begin a new Bible study for the 2016/2017 church year. Into the Word/Into the World is a study the teaches the disciple’s pattern of being formed by the written Word of God and then responding by going into the world. This is the second installment of the Disciple Bible Study that many of our members participated in two years ago. This is a shorter study but reembles the first Disciple Bible study in many other ways. This study will focus on four books of the Bible: Genesis, Exodus, Luke, and Acts. There are daily readings, and during our study times we will focus on what each of us has learned as we read and reflected each week. Study guides can be purchased through the church for $40, or you can buy yourself at Amazon or another online retailer. If you would like for the church to order a guide for you, please sign up before Thursday, September 1. The study will be offered on Wednes-day mornings at 10:30, Wednesday eve-nings at 7:00, and Thursday evenings at 6:00. Please let Michael know if you plan to participate on Wednesday mornings or Thursday evenings. No sign up is needed for Wednesday evenings. Everyone is wel-come to participate regardless of the amount of at-home preparation you choose to do or not do.
Please welcome our newest member:

Love to sing or ring? There is a place for you in the Adult Choir, the Handbell Choir… or the Children’s Choir (k-5). The Adult Choir meets regularly on Thursday nights at 7:30 p.m. It is a close-knit group that not only enjoys singing together, but also the special bond that grows from leading the congregation in song during weekly worship. There is no audition required. Regular rehearsals resume on Sept. 8. The Handbell Choir meets regularly on Thursday nights at
6:30 p.m. The rehearsals are fun, fast paced, and the handbells play in worship once per month, or more as needed in worship. Currently we are in need of sev-eral players, so if you have basic music reading knowledge and would be inter-ested in being part of a group of wonderful ringers you are welcome to join our group. Regular rehearsals begin on Sept. 8. See the ad below for The CTK Children’s Choir. Children will meet at the church immediately after school. The Children’s Choir is open to quiet, loud, wiggly, fun-loving, shy, experienced, or inexperienced singers!! There is movement, learning of anthems, playing instruments, learning to use hymnals, and children learn how to lead in worship. Regular rehearsals begin on Sept. 22. Please contact Beverley Edwards ([email protected]) or 598-3098 for more information.

Children’s Chatter (from Mrs. Crump)
Wow! It is hard to believe that August is here. It has been an amazing summer at May Memorial and, although it is not quite over, it is time to begin looking toward fall. As we begin planning, please take note of a few changes to the midweek programming for chil-dren (K – 5th grade). Each Thursday beginning September 22nd, transportation will be provided for children to come to May Memorial directly from the elementary schools for Children’s Choir with Miss Beverly. For students at Flatrock and Pocahontas Elementary Schools, it will be with the help of parents and volunteers. For students at Powhatan Elementary, it will be via the bus. After choir, from 4:45 – 5:30, our mission groups will meet. Royal Ambassadors (RA) will meet each Thursday with Mr. Irvin while Girls in Action (GA) will meet on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of each month with Mrs. Seaman. I will lead Girl Talk on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays. Our plan is to have a quick and easy dinner each week for those families that would like to join us. It won’t be anything fancy (pizza, baked potatoes, chili, more pizza) but it will be a great time for families to fellowship. Dinner will be from 5:30 – 6:00. If you have any questions about this new schedule or would like to volunteer to help in some way, please let me know! We welcome suggestions and extra hands! Also new this fall will be a Children’s Ministry Team. Yes, there will still be a Children’s Committee but we recognize that we need more than six people to support the work God has for us to do with our children.
Together Everyone Accomplishes More
Who will be a part of the Children’s Ministry Team? If you have a child, you are already a member! If you care about our children and want to lend a hand, you can be a member, too! Just let me know! More information about this exciting opportunity to serve will be coming soon. Until then . . . Enjoy these last days of summer! Hope to see you at church on Sunday. Jesus said, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hin-der them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these." Matthew 19:14

Join the Prison Ministry Team Each month on the second Thursday May Memorial sends a team of adults to host a game night for a small group of residents at Beaumont JCC. Game night is a very laid back, pressure-free evening. We simply play card and board games, and have refreshments. It is a night in which the residents are able to experi-ence a "normal" evening that is different from the feel of prison. Our next night at Beaumont is Thursday, August 11. If you would like to go with us to Beaumont email Michael.
Lonesome Dove Equestrian Center Ministry On Tuesday, August 16, May Memori-
