Memorial Baja SAE is a group thirteen Memorial
University students working together to meet the
various demands encountered in building an off-
road racing vehicle. From marketing to advanced
engineering design, students are challenged and
ultimately brought together in a positive learning
experience.
Our goal is to compete this summer at the Mid-
Western Baja hosted by the Society of Automotive
Engineers (SAE) in Montreal.
Who We Are
A Baja SAE vehicle is a single seat off-road
racer. They typically weigh in under 500lbs and
are capable of speeds up to 50 km/h. All teams
are supplied with a 10hp Briggs and Stratton
Engine, and the rest of the vehicle is designed
and built from the ground up.

The CompetitionEach year the Society of Automotive Engineers hosts
three Baja competitions in different regions of North
America. The competition is designed to simulate real
world engineering project of designing an off-road vehi-
cle capable of handling all types of rough terrain.
In June 120 team from around the globe will square off
in Montreal to compete against one another in this three
day event.
The competition is broken up into two components.
Static Events
The static events consist of a thorough safety inspection
followed by a vehicle design presentation for the judges. Our
vehicle!s design and financial records are scored based on
quality and application of sound engineering practices.
Dynamic Events
These events consist of short performance events and an
endurance race. Short events can range from a variety of
challenges that test suspension and traction, such as rock
crawling, hill climbing and drag racing. The endurance test is
a grueling four hour event that pushes car and driver to the
limit.
