Dear Friends, Welcome to May the month that moves minds to thoughts of summertime. Those of you close to school calendars are already counting the days. Regardless, a new month is God’s gift to the world; and I would hope we make the most of it. This weekend is our parish Ministry Appreciation gathering and supper. The parish would like to say THANK YOU to all who in any way have contributed their time and effort in parish life ministries. Come to the Hall this Saturday and let us say Thank you to you. The first two sessions of the JOY of the Gospel were very well attended. The third session will be offered at St. Joseph Cathedral Hall this coming Wednesday, 6:00-8:00pm. Session three will focus on the Joy of Commitment and Solidarity. Even if you have not attended the first two sessions, you can still attend this next session and benefit. This coming Saturday, is the 100th day since the death of Fr. Than Vu, and his family will celebrate with Mass at St Aloysius Church. Cultures observe different ways of memorializing those who have died. One of the issues the Catholic Church has not changed dealing with cremation, insisting that the cremains be buried or placed in a mausoleum niche so that the person can be memorialized. Having a place of memorial honors the dead and the value that person had for those who live. Construction continues on the Capital Campaign projects. I have been meeting every two weeks with the architect, contractor, and others to keep apprised of the projects progress. I hope this week in May will hold many blessings for you. Love,

BLESSING OF A CHILD IN THE WOMB The Church provides for each parish during certain times of the year to offer a “Blessing of a Child in the Womb” prayer for parents who are pregnant or who are adopting a child. St Jean Vianney Parish will offer such a Blessing at masses on the weekend of Trinity Sunday, May 30th and 31st. Families who are pregnant or awaiting a child are urged to attend.

During the month of April as part of our religion lesson and community service work, the preschool has a food drive for the parish food bank. Our children learn the importance of helping others and experience the reward of doing God's work. Thank you to all the families that help to provide food for those less fortunate.

St. Jean Vianney Social Responsibility News

The Joy of the Gospel

“How is the Gospel good news for me?” “How will I let the Spirit call me to be a new

evangelizer?” “How is Pope Francis challenging us to live out

our faith?” “How can we live out that challenge in our local

parishes and communities?”

St. Jean Vianney, along with other churches, the Jesuit Social Research Institute, and others, are sponsoring a reflection series on Pope Francis’ “The Joy of the Gospel”. You can attend any or all of the sessions: May 6: 6pm – 8pm, and May 16: 10am – 2pm. Join us and many others from all across the Diocese to reflect on Pope Francis’ writ-ing and answer the questions above. If you have any questions, please call Lyn Hassenboehler at the church office (leave a message and she’ll call you back). Register online at: joyofthegospel.eventbrite.com

The Rosebud Program of St. Elizabeth Ministry

Are you or someone you know pregnant, celebrating birth or adoption, wanting to become pregnant or adopt, or grieving miscarriage, stillbirth, abortion, or infant or child death? If so, please visit Mary’s Chapel and help us honor and celebrate life by creating a “Blessing Bouquet.” Select the appropriate colored rose (instructions are nearby) and fill out the attached card. Parishioners in our St. Elizabeth Ministry will then pray for you and your request.

REQUEST FROM JORDAN FRANTZ Happy Sunday! My name is Jordan Frantz and I have been a parishioner here at St. Jean Vianney for all 24 years of my life. I also attended S.J.V, K-8th grade and graduated from St. Michael High School in 2009. I am currently a graduating senior at LSU. This summer I have been offered a missionary position with a Catholic, non-profit organization called “Dumb-Ox Ministries”, named after St. Thomas Aquinas. One of their most popular ministries is a summer camp called Camp Echo. It’s specifically designed to teach, mold, and form high school youth into their true identities as beloved sons and daughters of God. This is done using St. John Paul II’s teachings: the Theology of the Body. This series of audiences he gave are focused on God’s plan for our sexuality as men and women, and the beautiful complementarity he instilled in our bodies, minds, and hearts. In order to be able to fill this missionary position, I need to raise $1,600 to cover air-fare, lodging, and meals. I am humbly asking for support- both financially and spiritually. If you or someone you know may feel called to give, simply visit dumboxministries.com and make your way over to the “Give Now” tab if you desire to donate via credit card. Make sure to put “Missionary-Jordan Frantz” in the comment text box. You can also send a check to: 1000 Howard Ave, 9th Floor New Orle-ans, LA 70113. Thank you and God bless! Contact [email protected] with any questions.
