Dear friends, If you go to our parish website you will find a link to Fr. Gerald Burns’ photos from this year’s Easter Vigil. You can download any photo you wish. Fr. Burns is a noted photographer and his photos are quite well done. Happy Easter! This weekend many families will celebrate the accomplishments of their sons and/or daughters who are completing their studies and graduating to another level of learning. The parish offers prayers and congratulations for them all, especially the parents who sacrificed for their children’s future. I am reminded of the image on the State Shield depicting a Pelican feeding her young with her own blood. What a Eucharistic symbol, and how appropriate for many parents who do so much for their children day by day. Since Easter has come so late, how fast is summer approaching! I have my square foot garden in the ground, and it seems that something is percolating below ground as nothing has died yet. I found this Blessing of Seeds at Planting Time which you might use: Lord of the Harvest, you placed the gifts of creation in our hands and called us to till the earth and make it fruitful. We ask your blessing as we prepare to place these seeds [plants] into the earth. May the care we show to these now remind us of your tender love for all your people. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen. I don’t guarantee that your plants will all survive, but I do guarantee that they will be holy. Have a good week ahead.

ST JEAN VIANNEY CAPITAL CAMPAIGN “Our Time to Pray, Our Time to Give”

A MATCHING GIFT There are parishioners who work for businesses which will sometimes MATCH a charitable donation to a Church or School. Is your employer one of those people? If so, your gift to the Capital Campaign could be matched. Sometimes, the employer will match a gift to a SCHOOL but not a CHURCH. Regardless of the case, we can help you find out if your employer will match your gift. Talk to Fr. Tom or Debbie Daigle at the parish office, 753.7950 so we can help you help us.

VOCATION Jesus tells us not to be troubled. Therefore, pray that the Lord will show you the way in your life. Just ask Him. If you think God is calling you to a Church vocation, call Fr. Matt Dupre at 225.336.8778, [email protected].

Charis Retreat for Adults in Their 20s and 30s

Who Do You Say I Am?

The Jesus Retreat

Two thousand years ago, Jesus put this question to his disciples: Who Do You Say I Am? Spend a day with others and consider your own response to Jesus’ vital question. Listen to peers talk about faith, relationships, and where Jesus fits in as friend, healer, and role model. Have conversations in small groups, take time to reflect and pray, and connect with old friends or meet new ones. Join us at St. Jean Vianney on Saturday, June 7th. Cost is $25 per person or $20 each when you and a friend register together. The retreat is sponsored by the Baton Rouge Diocese Young Adult Ministry Office. For more information, visit www.CharisMinistries.org or call Sr. Ily at 225.939.1339.

DOING GOOD WORK Congratulations to Daniel McLean for placing 5th at the State Social Studies in the Political Science Division. Congratulations to all the SJV students for all their hard work!

All are invited on Tuesdays to continue their worship and love of God at adoration. It is a visit, not a meeting. A visit of ‘love to love’. Bring whatever is in your heart and soul and leave it at the feet of the Lord for HE will be at yours. “Adoration for the Blessed Sacrament is the best time you will spend on earth”. -Mother Theresa Join us every Tuesday evening at 7:00pm for Eucharistic Adoration. Taking special time with our Lord is a great way to grow closer to Him.

St. Jean Vianney Social Responsibility News

Elizabeth Ministry Rosebuds Return Our Elizabeth Ministry Rosebud Program will return to Mary’s Chapel on May 4th and remain until the end of May. We are bringing it back in honor of Mary and Mother’s Day. We will pray for and sup-port those who are pregnant, celebrating birth and adoption, grieving miscarriage, stillbirth, abortion, infant/child death or those wanting to conceive or adopt. If you have one of these special needs, please select the appropriate color-coded silk roses and place in the vase provided. Each week, we will pray for one of the needs according to the color of a live rose, which will be in a separate vase near the display. Volunteers Needed for Mobile Food Pantry at St. Francis Xavier May 24 There will be one Together Baton Rouge mobile food pantry this month, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church on Saturday, May 24. Volunteers are needed to assist with sorting produce, distributing food and carrying food boxes for elderly recipients. Both adults and children can volunteer, and students can earn service hours credit. Volunteers must arrive by 8am. The pantry lasts until 10:30am or until all food has been distributed. Carpooling for SJV volunteers is available. If you are interested, contact parishioner Kristen Sunde at 225.715.3450 or [email protected]. Please share the word about the new food pantry site at St. Francis Xavier. Let’s help this new food pantry site grow to be as successful as the Scotlandville site!
