THE SCOOP ON DOG POOPHave you ever thought about how many canines have humans living in Elbow Valley? They are seen together practically every day on the pathways or the off-leash areas. No matter how big or how small a dog is, when they are outside, and nature calls, they leave behind a calling card. Here are a few things pet owners need to remember:

Not everyone that lives in Elbow Valley owns a dog, it’s the dog’s owner responsibility to scoop up the poop left behind regardless of where it is.

It’s classified as a hazardous pollutant. It’s in the same category as toxic chemicals.

It’s crawling with E. coli and often contains round worm larvae which, if ingested by humans or dogs can lead to brain, eye, and other organ damage.

It’s not good fertilizer. It’s high nutrient content is toxic to lawns and will create “hot spots” causing the grass to burn and discolor. It doesn’t absorb into in to the soil.

A program being offered by Rocky View County is some-thing important that all Rocky View County residents need to know about. It is a worthwhile program that residents should be a part of. Safe & Sound is two sys-tems in one.

SAFECommunities is for emergency alerts. It helps Rocky View County contact you in a crisis – flood, wildfire, chemical spill, or any other emergency that might im-pact you or your family. You’ll receive official, reliable in-formation about what’s happening and what you need to do about it.

SOUNDCommunication is for information on County activi-ties in your area. It helps to provide you with updates on road closures, development applications, fire bans, bylaw changes, and more. You choose the topics that interest you.

The service is free of charge but is only available for resi-dents and businesses in Rocky View County. The infor-mation that you provide to Safe & Sound will be used only by Rocky View County for SAFE & SOUND mes-sages. You can change or cancel your registration at any time. It can not only help First Responders save lives but in the event of an evacuation they can confirm with you that you have left the evacuation area and then they could prioritize checking out homes where residents have not been heard from.

Alberta’s farmers, ranchers and producers are a key driver of the economy and work hard to ensure they can respond to increasing demand for their high-quality, safe products. To assist that work, the federal and provincial governments are partnering to support innovation, growth and sustain-ability in Alberta’s agricultural sector.

The Canadian Agricultural Partnership is a five-year federal-provincial-territorial agreement that focuses on increasing trade, expanding markets and supporting innovative and sustainable growth in the sector while creating jobs and strengthening the middle class. Over the next five years $406 million will be invested to support strategic programs and activities under the Partnership. The Partnership in-cludes federal, provincial and territorial cost-shared stra-tegic initiatives to ensure programs are tailored to meet regional needs.

This agreement marks our commitment to the future of Alberta’s diverse agricultural sector. Agriculture is the cornerstone of our province’s economy and our largest sustainable industry. The investments made through this program will expand the capacity and efficiency of the sec-tor, creating more jobs for Albertans and increasing our ca-pacity to export our agri-food products to the world. The strategic direction of this agreement has been the focus of numerous roundtable meetings with Alberta farmers, ranchers and representatives from the diverse agri-food and agri-processing sectors over the last few months.

Irrigation, farm water, and stewardship programming launches in early April. Additional programs supporting Alberta’s agricultural sector will be launched in the com-ing weeks. Programs and activities will focus on growing trade and expanding markets, innovative and sustainable growth of the sector, supporting diversity and a dynamic, evolving sector, as well as cost-shared strategic initiatives. The Partnership includes a complete and effective suite of business risk-management programs to help farmers man-age risks that threaten the viability of their farm.

I’d like to express my gratitude and thanks to those that produce our food. Through thick and thin you remain strong and resilient. You are the stewards of some of Alber-ta’s most iconic landscapes and inspire us all with your hard work and determination. On behalf of the constituents of Banff-Cochrane, thank you for everything that you do.

MLA for Banff-CochraneCameron Westhead102, 721 Main Street,PO Box 8650 Canmore, AB T1W [email protected]

Meaning: to keep something quiet, to keep something secret, to remain silent.

Though the oldest known use of the idiom occurred in 1704, the word mum was in use long before that time. The word mum to mean silent is related to the word mummer, which is a type of entertainment from Medieval times. Mummers performed dances, games or plays in silence. In Philadelphia, the tradition is kept alive in the Mummers Parade that is performed yearly on New Year’s Day.

Mum’s the word.

Peanuts, the bane of the kindergarten classroom, can be even more dan-gerous than you may think. They’re an ingredient in dynamite! Here’s how it works: they contain an oil that is used in the process of making glycerol. Glycerol is one of the main ingredients in nitroglycerin and nitroglycerin is the main part of dynamite.
