STEWARDSHIP REFLECTION Today, the Third Sunday in Advent, is also called Gaudete Sunday. That name is taken from the Latin word Gaudete which is the first word of the introit of today’s Mass. Gaudete means “Rejoice.” The first line of the introit in its entirety is Gaudete in Domino semper, meaning “Rejoice in the Lord always.”

Joy and rejoicing are part of all of our readings on this day. As Christmas draws near, the Church emphasizes the joy which should be in our hearts over all that the birth of Jesus Christ means for us. Like Lent, Advent is a penitential season for us as Catholics. However, having passed the midpoint of Advent, we see some changes to encourage us in our spiritual preparation.

Yes, this should have been a time when we have been spiritually preparing for the coming of Christ. It is not too late; it is never too late in the eyes of the Lord for us to make a determined effort to change, to repent, and to find ways to properly serve the Lord as disciples. On this day of Joy let us renew our efforts to be good stewards of all of our gifts. Stewardship, of course, is founded in trust. On Gaudete Sunday in 2013 Pope Francis said, “Those who trust in God experience the peacefulness in their hearts and nothing and no one can take that away. Our joy is Christ.”

REFLECIÓN DOMINICAL

Hoy en día, el tercer domingo de Adviento, es también llamado Gaudete domingo. Ese nombre se toma de la palabra latina Gaudete, que es la primera palabra del introito de la Misa de hoy. Gaudete significa "Alégrate." La primera línea del introito en su totalidad es Gaudete in Domino semper, que significa "Regocijaos en el Señor siempre. "

La alegría y el regocijo son parte de todas nuestras lecturas en este día.Como se acerca la Navidad, la Iglesia hace hincapié en la alegría que debe estar en nuestros corazones de todo lo que el nacimiento de Jesús Cristo significa para nosotros. Al igual que la Cuaresma, el Adviento es un tiempo penitencial para nosotros como católicos. Sin embargo, después de haber pasado el punto medio de Adviento, vemos algunos cambios para animarnos en nuestra preparación espiritual.

Sí, esto debería haber sido un momento en que hemos sido espiritualmente preparando para la venida de Cristo. No es demasiado tarde; nunca es demasiado tarde en los ojos del Señor para nosotros hacer un esfuerzo decidido para cambiar, arrepentirnos, y encontrar maneras de servir adecuadamente al Señor como discípulos. "As By a New Pentecost"

The Adult Faith Formation Team at St. James is pleased to respond to this call by presenting the recently released DVD seminar "As By a New Pentecost." This 7‐week/14‐hour series illustrates in very practical terms how the graces of baptism and confirmation can be released to effectively address the challenges facing our families, church, and society today. They will inspire and challenge you to pray with new confidence. "Come Holy Spirit and renew the face of the earth! "

Mission Circle Please give a gift to a Casa Eudes child. Take a red tag or a picture card from the display and leave the suggested gift (unwrapped) in the collection box in the cry room by Monday, December 14th. You'll make Christmas special for one the girls at the home we support in Tijuana. This year we need gifts for quite a number of pre‐teens and teen‐agers as well as a few young kids.

Help us host the Casa Eudes Christmas Party. This is the most festive event of the year at the girls' home in TJ. Come help us serve a holiday meal and greet Santa when he shows up with presents for all the kids. The party is on Saturday, December 19. The church van leaves the church parking lot at 9:00 a.m. If you ride in the van, you’ll need a special passport card that speeds up reentry to the US. St. James—St. Leo Catholic Community is under the pastoral care of the Eudist Fathers, or Congregation of Jesus and Mary. We owe our name to Saint John Eudes who founded the Congregation in France in 1643. The Eudists currently operate in 15 countries, most of which are in the developing world. Evangelization, mainly with the poor and the youth, is our primary purpose, as well as formation to ministry in the

Volunteers needed! 2016 WeALLCount During the 2015 Point‐in‐Time Count 8,742 individuals were counted as being homeless in San Diego County, thanks to volunteers like you! This year in the early morning hours of January 29, 2016, roughly 1,500 volunteers will \partic‐ipate in the 2016 WeALLCount, the annual homeless census of San Diego County. WeALLCount empowers our community to qualify for millions in funding that is critical to addressing homeless issues.

The WeALLCount consists of two main volunteer parts, the physical count and the in depth survey. The Regional Task Force on the Homeless is seeking volunteers for both of the following: Count‐ Volunteers to count unsheltered homeless persons—January 29 (4am‐7am). Volunteers will count in teams of 2 or 3 OR Interview‐ Volunteers to conduct interviews with homeless individuals—January 29‐ February 5 (various dates/times). Volunteers will interview in teams of 2 or 3.

Earlier this year, through a Special Session, the CA legislature passed assisted suicide, allowing doctors to prescribe overdose medication to terminally ill patients. Join a coalition of physicians, nurses, disability‐rights organizations, and people of all faiths to stand for the lives of our elderly and dying and oppose assisted suicide! On a weekend of your choice, petitions will be available for signature outside of Masses. Signers must be registered to vote and can on‐ly sign once.

Why Oppose Assisted Suicide?

• Sends the Wrong Message: Legalizing suicide for the terminally ill, while discouraging it for the rest of the population, teaches that the lives of the ill and disabled do not matter to our society.

• Will Worsen Patient Care: Patients in other states, like Barbara Wagner in Oregon, are being denied treatment prescribed by their doctors, and instead offered drugs for assisted suicide.

• Will Increase Non‐Terminal Suicide Rates: Suicides skyrocket when assisted suicide is legalized. Oregon's suicide rate for non‐terminal people increased 49% after assisted suicide became legal.
